    Perfect water change tutorial! Thank you for even explaining the process of why we do the water changes! One thing that I really had not thought about is plants creating waste themselves... They are living organism 🌱😁 thank you George and Tropica! I hope you and your families have a very blessed weekend! Thank you for sharing!🌱🐟🌿🙏

    I tried to see how long I could go without a water change. But,really I was just going against old school and now have to admit that once a week 40-50% water changes makes a better aquarium. Just does. Besides healthy,looking at water with no tint in a see-through aquarium is a great joy. What tropical dreams are made of.

    Nowadays I'm doing 30% water changes once a month as a bare minimum, but ideally at least 1/6 at least every week. I'll probably rise it to 30 % every week. I'm using 1:1 osmosis and tap water mix, most of the latter staying 8 - 24 hours in the buckets.

    Hello,
    I wonder if you could advise me with an issue which i am having with nitrite.
    My aquarium has been running for 3 week. Water changes has been made everyday on the first week then everything 2 days on the second week and then every 3 days on third week.At l’east 1/3 of water from the tank (140 litres)
    The problem is my nitrite stays at 0.6, but my ph4 is at 0,05 and nO3 is at 5 which are ok.
    Yesterday i have change 50 litres of water but To no avail the nitrite is still at 0,6.
    I will be grateful if you could help me.
    Thanking you.
    Selva.

    Hello.
    Doesn't adding tap water directly to the tank kill the bacteria ? I allways fill buckets of water then let them sit for 2 min. Before adding them into my tanks . I would love to just fill with a hose . And then add dechlorinator , if so , do you dose the hole tank or just he necessary amount for the added tap water ?
    Thanks .

    But i see you have a co2 diffuser while you are doing a water change.
    Is it a good idea to do water change with the co2 on and lights on?
    Or when is it a good time to do a water change if you run a co2 system?

    I change my water at most once a week 50% to 25% of the water. I just eye ball the amount.
    The most I will ease up is 2 weeks for some tanks. If it is easing up, I also ease up on feeding the plants.
    I do condition and then heat the water before hand however. Heating up the water a day before is my strategy. This way some of the ammonia from my tap can be eliminated early before being added to the tank.

    So I am planning to set up my first aquascape in the next month or so, so i am completely new to the hobby. I am trying to learn as much as possible so I dont make any costly mistakes. I have limited equipment atm and will be doing water changes with a bucket and a siphon using my kitchen water tap. When do I dechlorinate the water? Before or after I add it to the tank? How do I ensure the water temp is safe so I do not shock the livestock during the water change?

    • @TropicaAquariumPlants
      @TropicaAquariumPlants  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jon, Welcome to the hobby first of all! 🌱🤞 You can try having a look at our Tropica Live series for some of the easier scaps and plenty of knowledge along the way.
      Unless you have a toxic water it should be fine as is. You would do it before adding it to the tank if you're keen on it. You can use a thermometer or your hands, unless you have very sensitive fish it's not really a problem. 50% water changes shouldn't impact the temperature drastically especially during summer.

    I’ll be honest, I don’t do water changes in my 180 but every few months. My parameters stay good and my fish do better. Of course that’s just me. Not saying it’s right for all. I have a heavily planted tank and many small fish other than 2 Angel fish. I found the once a week or once twice a week caused me more problems with fish deaths and plant problems. I’m NOT kicking anybody that do weekly water changes by any means but I wonder if sometimes we keep it too perfect when fish don’t live in any perfect environment. My water stays crystal clear. I’m thinking of slowly adding tannins. I do use leaves.

    Is it not dangerous to do large water changes in a CO2 injected tank? How do I ensure it is done safely to prevent large pH swings?

    • @TropicaAquariumPlants
      @TropicaAquariumPlants  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Regan. Depending on the tank we'd shut off the CO2 for the maintenance; that being said we haven't registered large enough ph swings to endanger the tank, thus you're safe to do a large water change without worrying too much about the pH variation.

    I've honestly never measured other than siphoning into empty gallon jugs & replacing with what I took out or refilling my tanks up to the mark I put on all tanks when I first set up. The amount of water I change depends on the stock load and waste producing load of each tank. I feel it is important to change water because the minerals in new water are not depleted like old water and they are more available for fish to use in new water which then, keeps them healthy.

    Hmm This is the first time I see that someone purs tap water in the Aquarium and after it is filled, he adds the dechlorinator. As an expert, do you know if this does any harm to the fish? I have always used a huge barrel to mix dechlorinator with tap water and THEN I pur the water in the aquarium. Can I do it like you? Won't the chlorine burn their gills momentarily with your method?
