Some of my earliest memories I have as a child are watching the super tourers in the late 90s. Even as a kid I new the super2000 era wasn't a patch on the Super Tourers. Thanks for the upload.
I thoroughly enjoyed The British Touring Car Championship as a young lad throughout the 90s. Even got reprimanded for shouting at the screen a few times. But seeing this opening race after the 99 season, it just looked like amateur hour. No matter how they dressed it up it was terrible. Such a shame.
I always get a bit sad watching 2000 BTCC footage. It was so clearly the end, and there were so little Super Tourers being ran that every meeting had a ghostly feel. Look at footage from 1998, when the pit lane, garages and paddocks are bustling, and everything seems brighter. By contrast, with only 3 works teams in 2000 it all just feels emptier. The magic of Super Touring had left after 1999. It just all felt empty after that.
The end of the best era in BTCC history ever.

Loved the Ford Mondeo from 2000, it sounded great too.
Remember watching this live. Great stuff.
I like Brands Hatch it's my favourite tracks in the British Trouing cars Champship
Classic BTCC all round nice one
Yea, I do hope they bring back these cars in GT7
These are the OG days of BTCC, along with the following 10 years
James Thompson was great. He's disappeared into obscurity over the last 10-15 years though driving a LADA
The video tracking at the start hit me right in the nostalgia 🥲
Miss this era. I was at this race at age 9.
13:31 race start
1999 was the last good year, when teams had 3 drivers it was the start of the end
The way he walks down the grid with the microphone is an image I never forgot as the cars and drivers get previewed
The Dingle Dell chicane was replaced by Sheene curve, which apparently is closer to how Dingle Dell used to be before the chicane was installed
thanks
cheers for uploading this :)
Jeff Bloxham at 2.08 if i'm not mistaken

Please bring the other touring car races back including round 3 and 4 at donington park the night races at snetterton and round 18 at donington
hello, excellent videos, do you have complete races from 1997 to 1999? greetings from Argentina
Look at that grid
Never liked the Class B cars. They should never of been added to the BTCC grid. Should of had there own separate race
Class B should have been only in the Qualifying session for the Feature Race but and after the Super Touring Sprint Race
But there would have only been 11 cars otherwise
I always cheered for the mondeos because my mom had a 99 contour se lol.
Rydell made that mega boring holding everyone up
lol reminds jackie chan's thunderbolt
