    Better shows back then. The whole family could watch together. Not anymore.

      I wouldn't consider Petyon Place "family friendly".

      Nope. Those days are long gone, sad to say.

    Ahhh, The Avengers. I did also like Linda Thorson and especially the target opening. Big Valley theme composed by Jerome Moross, who did the Big Country theme. Never knew back then what RFD stood for.

    Doesn’t get any better than Larry Hagman and Barbara Eden.

    a more simple mythical time...but let us not forget, its always been a MYTH.

    Great memories. But let us not forget, The Man from U.N.C.L.E was on for half a season in 1968. Laugh In was a replacement and became a huge hit.

      And not afraid to mention the competition. At the end of each show, Arte Johnson as the German soldier would pop out of the potted plant and say goodnight to Marshall Dillon and Lucy.

      @davidosterman2919 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      my favorite was when Bob Hope was standing next the potted plant and the the German soldier popped up and said accusingly "every Christmas I waited for you . . . "

      "Rowan And Martin's Laugh-In" did indeed replace "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." (after four seasons) midway through the 1967-68 season due to declining ratings. And CBS moved its venerable--yet struggling--long-running western "Gunsmoke" into the 7:30 pm timeslot that autumn after unceremoniously terminating "Gilligan's Island" the previous spring.

    By the summer of 1969, Peyton Place was replaced by the Friday night minor hit The Guns of Will Sonnett in its timeslot.

    This night must have caused a problem for us (remember, the VCR hadn't been invented yet) what with GUNSMOKE and LAUGH-IN on at the same time (pretty much)...I was 6 at the time and I remember that my mother was a big fan of Westerns but my father was more into comedy...so did they alternate weeks?

      Despite heavy competition from CBS' venerable--and long-running--"Gunsmoke" on Mondays, NBC's "Rowan And Martin's Laugh-In" managed to hold its own against the aging western and remain at the top of the ratings until its cancellation in the spring of '73.

  • @demetriusdillard2863
    @demetriusdillard2863 ปีที่แล้ว

    Aside from NBC's smash hit "Rowan And Martin's Laugh-In," CBS was kicking major ass on Mondays during the autumn of '68, with "Gunsmoke," "Here's Lucy," "Mayberry R.F.D.," "Family Affair," and "The Carol Burnett Show" all holding their own.

    ABC The Avengers last season The Big Valley last season I am sure in the fall of 1969 a whole new night of shows on Monday night CBS Gunsmoke still running go until 1975 Here's Lucy was the last series in her 23 years for CBS from 1951-1974. Mayberry RFD first season and Family Affair 3rd season would be victims of the Rural Purge both gone still popular in the spring of 1971. The Carrol Burnett Show very popular would move to Saturday night in January of 1973. It ran until 1978 11years. NBC I Dream of Jeannie was in it's 4th year still doing good would run until 1970. The Huge Big Hit at that time Rowan & Martin's Laugh-in started in January of 1968 #1 in the Rating first 2 or 3 seasons Great show. Great night of TV for everyone in the family

    I got done running SNL over a local NBC affiliate as of this post. It was full of sex and drug jokes. What ever happened to programming like what's in this video? Mondays in 1968/1969 looks fantastic! Laugh-In and Carol Burnett on the same night? Quality TV!

    Funny, I thought THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW was always on Saturday nights rather than Monday...but they do say memory is the first thing to go when you age!

    ah, memories! Like someone else said that was when the entire family could watch TV together.
    One question though: why'd you show the 1966 opening for I DREAM OF JEANNIE?

      @fromthesidelines 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That opening was used during the final three seasons as well.

      Actually, it moved from Saturday nights to Mondays in the fall of 1967. It stayed there until the series ended in 1975.

      By the last 26 episodes, Mrs. Peel had been replaced by Tara King.

  • @richardblayneamerican8149
    @richardblayneamerican8149 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    There was great interest over who the 'new girl' would be on The Avengers. There could never be another Emma Peel, but Linda Thorson as Tara King proved a fine replacement.
