When it comes to the film The Assassin it was not what I expected when it came to the look and colour grade of the film and the aspect ratio of the film when watching it on DVD.
I watched this film twice. I enjoyed it.
It's a Wuxia film which is paying homage to mystery thrillers, female wuxia martial arts actresses of the 1960s and 1970s, it's like 50/50 black and white and colour which is unique and cool for a very modern film of the last decade.
And the visuals are on point.
Gonna pop it onto my DVD player and watch it again sometime soon.

There's only 5-6mn in black and white but yes as you say the colors and color grading are always changing to give an unique vibe.Visually one of the best movie of the last decade and worth it to rewatch the story is a bit complicate even tho it's not important.
