You need to use arrow keys or WASD when navigating things like this lol, or don't fling your cursor so you don't sprint and instead walk. Its tricky to get the hang of but eventually you learn it. Also pro tip, quickly tapping and releasing a direction to move in while in combat lets you do a little cautious backstep, instead of the typical dodge. Great for keeping your character on their feet.

it is definitely better to use your cursor when navigating over dangerous ground. Just make sure to walk and don't stop while doing it.
