You have to remember too. Editing plays a huge part on dragrace. They tell the story they want you to see. We're all suckers and believe whatever they dish up. A lot of footage is cut and they make sure to show every time James pouts or doesn't say something so we think he's timid and unsure of himself. Truth is the show isn't the entirety of any of those queens. I agree with others, I wouldn't sleep on James. Look at Shangela when we first saw her to what she is now. We thought Trixie was unpolished and amateur at first. Now she I'd one of the most successful to come out of her season.
We need a season of all stars of all the queens eliminated in the first 3 weeks, we don't see enough of these queens. Guarantee you Jaymes knows more makeup skills and herstory than half of those new young queens do

Jaymes Mansfield is so cute and funny! I really love him, BUT I wish he would either find a mat lip product that works for him, or change the amount of over lining the top lip. To me the high gloss just accentuates the fact that it is above the natural lip. It kind of reminds me of when your lips are so chapped you put balm all over your skin and have a weird glossy "mustache". I don't know if this is only because of lighting on camera, maybe in person it looks great? I've never had the pleasure of seeing him perform in person. Or maybe he doesn't know it looks so shiny on tv?. I know he commented about how bad his nude lip looked in episode 1, and hdtv makeup is so different from stage makeup. Whatever, still love him, but if I could have my way, I would change the lip shape, or the shiny lipstick. I don't mind the shape, isn't that called a 1940s smear when you take away the Cupid's bow?
