When my brother and I were kids we obsessed over this game, it was the first manual for a game I ever bought. When we beat it in under 24 hours in like 2002 we were convinced we were the fastest in the world. We had no idea any of this shit existed lmao.
you circled around 3 times in the menu. also do you have to use overflow power up powder or just use the ones that are already in your menu to get +5? also how do you unplug the controller for ps4? should the battery be dead?
okay so I'm trying this on PCSX2 emulator and I'm pretty sure I'm doing everything correctly but I'm only allowed to warp to matataki village? i literally have no idea what's happening. I'm doing the gladius method also, not that that should change anything
Are you doing it from a practice save file, or save state? For some odd reason, sometimes if you try to replicate this from a save file on memory card it refuses to let you warp to dark heaven, I just found this out a couple days ago. It's rare, but it happens sometimes and none of us understand why. If this is the case, you will have to do another run through of the dungeon and instead make a SAVE STATE before resetting the emulator to practice the menus Also, the part of the menus where you move the bread is the moment that dark heaven can be unlocked, so make sure you're doing that part correctly
Strange few questions: 1. SSD, does that affect times for PS4 times? 2. PS4 Controller buffer, is it possible? Or should you just go old school PS2 unless you want this to be frame perfect? (Edit: Could a second PS4 controller be used for buffer as well?) (Semi-Unrelated) 3. Finally, is the "Broken Dagger Glitch" frame perfect as well?
1. Unsure, but it probably would if other games are any indication. PS4 loads are already lightning fast compared to ps2's though. 2. Someone in the discord has tested it and found out you can buffer with ps4, its just extremely awkward and involves the tiny hard reset button on the back of the controller. I think they may have said just powering off controller and holding the buttons, then powering on works for PS4 as well. I prefer ps2 because its just easier, and has diagonal running for increased move speed. 3. Broken dagger glitch is frame perfect yes, you have to press X + Right at the same frame but unlike the glitch menu stuff it wont crash your game if you miss
Well put together video! You should think of making more videos like this for other games you run. I think this game may be a good way to dip my toes into speedrunning. Maybe take the WR in a few months :P I'm looking into unpacking the game or gathering resources on hacks/debug modes and hopefully get some research done n the meantime.
Sounds awesome dude! I'm planning on doing another tutorial for other categories for this game, starting with Any% Glitchless. The only other game I run at the moment Is Kingdom hearts and it's optimized to the point of having multiple useful guides already, haha. Thanks for the complements and im glad you enjoyed the video and show interest in running, let me know if you need anything :)
Currently trynna do this on PS4. I followed everything, Closed my game on save, 9999 dungeon runs file, and everytime i try to load into it the application crashes. Any advice?
If it is crashing you probably either just got unlucky, which can happen. (The glitch sometimes just doesn't work due to other internal factors with the game) or you miscounted when doing dark heaven's menus
My man you have flared something I've wanted to do for Dark Cloud since a child and I'm going to try to get to that world record or close. Though I do have a few questions should I at the moment don't own a capture card so can I'm on ps4 and it has a kinda timer on streams can I use that or is there anything else o could do????
When I attempt to get the steel hammer I always end up getting the broken dagger instead. Could it be because I am playing the European version? Or maybe because I am playing on a PlayStation 5?
Most of the strats included in this run were discovered by one person, pokemonfan4000/TheGlitchKing. They discovered the credits warp and did the first runs utilizing and optimizing it, we've just optimized it further since then through. Pokemonfan is dope though, a really good glitch hunter who's still finding stuff for both DC games today. Def recommend checking them out. th-cam.com/users/pokemonfan4000
@@wxyz.letter you're either missing a step somewhere along the way, or you just have a bad file. Sometimes even if you do everything right the glitch can not work, just something to do with the games memory changing constantly due to internal factors If you've already followed everything exactly 1 to 1 without leaving any steps out, then try starting again from a fresh new game file
@Glitchedd yeah I've followed it 1 to 1 on this save and it only unlocks two of the levels, I've tried this on three separate saves now and none have unlocked all, gotten close but nah

I’m not into speedruns but Dark Cloud is one of my favourite games and I just discovered some new mechanics. Great vid!
Glitchedd, like an anime villain, is tired of being at the top, and is looking out to train the one that will give him competition, Kappa
He's training a student to become a master, like a less lethal Sith Rule of 2.
dude! love this! i learned so much holy shit, you a real one. the attack cancelling for some reason i never thought about lmfao
Gotta bust out my notebook to write all of that down! 😂
Thank you for taking the time to make this video and share your knowlege! 😃🙏
Great video, also Bats are literally the worst.
How did somebody figure out this glitch? That’s insane someone did that and remembered what they did lol

You can use that if you like, but doing this glitch is a lot more punishing on PS4 so it will be a lot more difficult

Yes, this only works on the North American Release. (i.e. NTSC-U Only).
I just have to ask. How the heck do you guys figure these things out? How many months does it take you?
