I have been trying for three years to grow my own!!! Three would produce small ones and then die, I think because of the weight pulling on the vine. I needed to see this video as I prepare my growing list. May I ask what did you tie your first strings to? I appreciate this! #LearningGrowingAndLeaning❤
I'm really glad I stumbled onto this video. I just planted two seeds of the yellow Moonbeam ones in a 5 gal bucket and put it on my 3 gal bucket grow table (because I have no more room - 1st timer). I don't even know what it looks like for these to grow. Now if I can just somehow find room below in a crate and run a trellis line above and up the side, I can just rest the melon on the table. It's PT lumber, so I'll have to shield/house it above, but that's genius. Kudos to you!
WHAT are the ropes/string attached to above the melons??? which directions does that wall face? are they in direct sun? what do you fertilize them with and how often? I like the method, I want to try it , only what are the strings attached to above? Which garden zone do you live in? I am in Arkansas 7B
Could you please 🙏 share your potting mixture ???? Please 🙏. Also, was that worm castings that you put on top of the soil mixture??? I love your video. Thank you so very much for sharing
While I'm grateful for all the your efforts, this video is disappointing I thought you were about to show us how you cared for the plants. Other than watering, did you use any plant food, how did you manage insects, fungus, etc?
You are growing yours in a green house but most of us will be growing ours outside of the technology. There's no way the results will be the same!🤷🏻♀️
So you buy a $5 plant, potting soil and fertilizer, build that wood shelf, water and care for the plant for 100 days for a $5 or $10 watermelon? I love gardening but I think if I did that once it would be the last time. Idk, it is a good way of managing the vines
Actually, it would only cost you a dime to grow these big watermelons if even that. You take a watermelon you had before and instead of throwing away the seeds, you put them in a glass with water overnight You can cut the tip off of the seed to make it grow faster Put it in a paper towel that is wet and keep it in a cool place like your refrigerator. Go in your backyard or a friends, backyard and grab a little soil and find some of your leftover flimsy pots. Keep these pots on the windowsill if you live in a cooler climate and somewhere summer doesn’t start till June In one month, you will have a 2 foot plant for free. Everybody has string around their house. Tie it the top of your fence. If you go behind a shopping market, they have these crates for free. Just ask the owner of the store if you can have some. After you put the little plant in the crate, and you see, it has grown onto the ground, ask your little child if you have one, or a neighbors child who braids their hair; ask them to braid the plant on the vine. So far, none of this has cost you anything. Even the lining you can see people throw that stuff out give it a good rinse. And use it. Finally look at the picture of the vine this man has. When you see the plant has too many leaves or many more than what he has in the picture go and get your household scissors and cut the leaf off before the big branch You can even collect rainwater in a barrel for free 😳 there you have it Fruit for almost free. Sometimes your city will actually give you free compost or manure. Recycling is the jewel of the world and so much more healthier and less costlier.
I don’t think that’s the point…. Once you have all the stuff you can repeat this method year after year for free watermelon and a fun hobby in the summer… worth it to me 🤷🏼♀️
@@Zorbakozakwe get it. It’s good to recycle, maybe it is free. But dirt is expensive and yes, gardening is about spending hundreds of dollars to grow our own $5 worth of vegetable. Not to mention, feeding the local groundhog, squirrel, chipmunk and mice.
Can we see the top of your set up? I would like to see what you have the strings tied to, and how you adjust the high of the plant so all the melons rest on the pallet.😊
Organic method: There is only one solution: crop rotation Do not plant one type of plant at a time After planting watermelon, planting another type of plant will avoid the disease Inorganic method: You can use biological drugs or medicine with isolation
@@EYGardeningMay I suggest a non poisonous one that is used here. Get spray bottle (large) add 1 tsp(5ml) of dawn dishwashing liquid, 4tlbs(120ml) of vinegar , and 1 tsp of tlbs of salt, fill bottle with water shake well. Spray plants at least twice weekly for pest control. Do it late evening when sun is down . Make sure bottle is at least 20 ounces.
If you allow a cucumber to keep growing, it swells up like a watermelon. Also... if you plant both and forget which seedlings are which, smell the roots... they'll smell like the melons they produce.

Haha do the squirrels actually eat through the outside of the watermelon 🍉?

Dang...you make that look easy and cool.
We have a lot of marble and granite slabs from a quarry, so mine are on a little marble table. They look so cute!

A personal favorite fruit😍. . .
LIKE and LOVE you video!
THANK YOU for the inspiration...🤗
Theyre big, adorable, you take very good care of them, and you are wonderful 💖
Homie went HAM on the ASMR in the beginning. 😂
So what happens to all the other watermelons that develop on the vines?
They were cut to others fruits grow stroger.
I think the vine is adjusted so next fruit can sit on the bed
They get pruned off. You only want one melon to a vine. Better quality fruit.
@@michaelgreen8005Exactly. If the plant doesn’t have to expend energy on multiple fruits and can put all of its effort into one.

How do you deal with powdery mildew and spider mites?

After planting watermelon, planting another type of plant will avoid the disease
Inorganic method:
You can use biological drugs

Colloidal silver in watering initially will prevent powdery mildew. Before appearance of fruit. Azamax is an organic spray for mites.
