This is so good! I have journaled for 37 years, (since the age of 15), and have done it in different ways. Mostly through poetry. Writing is my outlet and I am able to be raw and real with God. Another favorite way I use my prayer journal is to fold the paper in half - lengthwise - and on one side I'd write out my prayer and the other side I'd add scriptures. Say I'm feeling anxious, I'd find the scriptures that'll encourage me to not be anxious or have fear. I hope that made sense.

Thank you so Much for sharing this! Little did you know, But this was an answer to a Thought I have been having the past few weeks. I currently am 15 (like u were when you started) and I have recently been feeling like I need to start journaling. I am really into poetry thpugh, so earlier today I was like "what if I started journaling poetry?" Then I thought that was stupid so I ignored it, but when I read this, I knew it was a sign from God saying "its not stupid, and I want you to do it! "
So now ima start prayer/poem journaling, so that you so much for being a confirmation to a prayer ❤🙏

Prayer journaling has CHANGED MY LIFE. For me, when I try to mentally pray, I often get sidetracked with other thoughts and then like 10 min later I’ll be like, “Oh wait! I was supposed to be praying.” But when I write it down, it keeps my thoughts more linear and focused…. And if I get distracted by my husband talking to me or my daughter needing me, I can look and see where I left off in my prayer and pick it right back up. I really like what you said about writing it down feeling as if you’ve laid down the weight of whatever it is on your heart before God. I felt that, but you expressed it so eloquently. When I verbally pray, I feel like I rush through it and sometimes feel disconnected. Don’t know if that makes any sense at all… but kind of like I’m leaving God a message on His voicemail rather than communing with Him. I still pray both mentally and verbally throughout the day, though, because I can’t constantly be in my prayer journal…. But there really is something so special about that intentional time spent with God in prayer.
Another point I wanted to add to your being “real and raw” with God: I do the same. And this has also helped me grow as a person. There are prayers in my journal where I was venting to God about someone who hurt my feelings…. Only for Him to reveal to me in that moment in the most loving non-condemning way the uglies about myself…. Which led me in to asking for forgiveness and pursuing repentance… also a change of perspective about the situation and a burden lifted off my shoulders.
I love how you didn’t emphasize prayer journaling a must-do for all because not all people function the same way… but it truly has enhanced my prayer life… and truly my life in general significantly! I’ve battled moments of thoughts of “you’re making your prayer journal an idol” but I know those are lies trying to prevent me from doing it because it has helped me grow in my relationship with God so much and that’s exactly what the devil doesn’t want!
Love all your videos, Faith!!! Thank you for all the time and effort you put in to them. May God bless you and your family for your faithfulness!!!

I feel the same way. I easily get distracted when praying too. It often left me feeling like I was doing something wrong and that I’m bad for getting distracted. I know that that is a lie but I still felt distant from God when I would pray. I started praying journaling after watching one of Faith’s videos. I’ve been doing it for about a week but I have seen such a difference in my prayer life and have been even looking forward to prayer journaling. I’m so glad that prayer journaling has helped you too. I pray that you are doing well ❤ Have a blessed day ❤

@@daisyg8384 I think God knows us through and through and so I don’t think one way trumps another. The Bible says He knows before we even present it to Him. I don’t think prayer is so much for Him as it is for us. I mean, He DOES want to hear from us… but I think WE get more benefit out of praying because we draw closer to Him and we’re more mindful of Him. I do think sometimes there are benefits in speaking. Sometimes we can work things up in a tizzy in our own heads and if we say it out loud we realize it isnt as bad as our mind played it up to be. But if I’m being honest, writing it down has the same affect for me. I’ll realize I might be making a thing bigger than it actually is. This is just for me, I really don’t know. But I don’t think one way of communicating to God trumps another. As long as you are doing it. ☺️🥰

I have a prayer journal, and I’ve made maybe 3 entries in it this year. Sometimes I get discouraged or distracted or I’ll feel like He already knows everything, so why bother writing it or praying it? Or that He doesn’t care, which is NOT true but it’s my own insecurities and trauma. All the more reason I need to do it!
I definitely love the idea of laying everything out there and the idea of watching the spiritual growth and ways in which the Lord answers prayers over time. I know I process better in writing than speaking so I have no reason not to do it. I just need to make it a priority and a habit and this video was a nudge towards that. So thank you! ❤

My cousin has a dream about me prayer journaling! She said that I was writing down a fear I was dealing with and it it just so happened that I WAS dealing with that! and she told me what my fear was and I was amazed! My God IS listening/watching me! Then my cousin dreamt it! We hadn’t even talked that week!
Anyhow, I talk too much so I feel like writing as much as I talk will make my hand hurt. Lol. What I found helpful in prayer journals is listing each request in 1-2 sentences and then put a scripture next to it. One thing I was taught was to “pray the Word”. So I follow up each request with a scripture reference. I have different people as well as myself throughout my journaling notebook. When I pray I will reference my journal and then pray out loud. Again, I talk a lot! 😂 I decorate my journal but I don’t spend too much time with that because I want to actually pray. Loved this video!! Journaling helps so much in our prayer life!

For years, I thought of people that kept a prayer journal as ridiculous. Why should they write everything down in a book, when they can just talk to God? I thought of it as a waste of time.
Well, as I got older (I’m 65), I realized that there are many different ways of talking to God, and prayer journaling is one of them. It may not be for everyone, and until I started watching your videos on the subject, I didn’t think it was for me.
My prayer life sucks. I have a hard time concentrating on whatever I’m praying about - so much so, that I’ve started saying what a friend refers to as ‘popcorn prayers.’ I say a quick prayer for whatever the situation or request, then it’s literally gone from my mind. If I don’t say a prayer right when I think of it, I don’t remember it later.
I think if I start writing it all down, that will definitely help me to concentrate more on what I’m saying/thinking, and my mind won’t wander as much.
So, thank you so much, Faith, for the inspiration to start prayer journaling!

I write my prayers because they help my brain from wandering off, but I don't keep my prayers. I write on the back of paper that has only been printed on one side. I don't keep them because God is not accountable to me. He can answer my prayers as He sees fit. Not how I want him to. And most of my prayers, I wouldn't know how he answered them anyway. If it's a big thing, he has answered for me, and I want to keep a record of it. I put it in with my gratitude, so I keep going over it and be reminded.

This video was so helpful as are all of your videos! I have always struggled with prayer, what to pray, how to pray, when to pray, etc. And... When I try to pray in my head, ADD kicks in and the next thing I know, what I'm praying in my head makes no sense. It's almost the same thing when I pray out loud. As much as I hate to write...ANYTHING...it feels like the only time my thoughts are coherent and flow, even when it's through stream of consciousness. This video has given me permission to approach prayer differently and I pray that in doing so, I grow stronger in my relationship with God. Thank you Faith! I also feel the same about thinking prayers over and over and how sometimes it doesn't feel like they're really prayed, when if you write them down it feels more concrete. I think the reason is because some people, like us, are in our own heads a lot; thinking thoughts a lot of the time and spending every spare moment in our own heads, so that when we pray it really just seems like an extension of our own thoughts and not like something different, offered to God. I think that's why writing them down makes a difference because it sets them apart from the thousands of other thoughts we are thinking all the time, every day, and makes them more concrete. The way writing a letter to someone does. It makes it real to us and at the same time bigger than ourselves - since our own thoughts are so big already. It feels more substantial, like we've taken them from the world of imagination and made them exist. Perhaps other people, who are more do-ers and less thinkers, might not have this problem.
Anyway, that's just my opinion because it happens to me all the time.

    Hi Faith,
I never had a diary as a kid or a journal either so writing out my thoughts and my prayer for myself is really foreign to me, but I do see the value in journalling, particularly to God. Thank you so much for this video and for helping me to find the confidence to journal.
    God bless,
    Janet

This was SO good! It was just what I needed to hear. I’m in a season of desperately needing direction but not knowing what to do. I used to journal all the time, but since marriage and motherhood, I just haven’t made the time for it.
This has encouraged me to walk through this season with prayer journaling. I think what blocks me is what you mentioned in the beginning feeling like it needs to be planned. Thank you for the reminder that it is meant to be very real and raw. You have blessed me so much with this video! Thank you and God bless you!

I love the way Prayer journaling has helped you, and how real and honest this video was. I believe with all my heart that the Holy Spirit hears us and knows us better than we know ourselves. He is our guid, our comforter, our teacher, our filter, and our best friend. So when I pray i do it litterally as real and honest and open, and as if I am speaking directly not to just my savior, not just my Heavenly Father, but to the one person in all of creation that truely loves me for who I am unconditionally, my best friend, and I believe that is the truest form of prayer written, spoken, mental it doesn't matter, he knows all, sees all, and can not be lied to, nor does he lie. You can be all out and real and honet, because he all ready knows. And you can say what you truely mean instead of sugar coating it , because he loves you no matter what. All I ask of anyone in their journey to finding what kind of prayer works for them is to remember, he always hears you, just because you cant always discern his response doesn't mean you are ignored, or forgotten. And not getting the answer you are hoping for doesn't mean he doesn't care. as the song says "Some of God's greatest gifts, are unawsered prayers."

Great point about "praying a checklist can put up a barrier." I haven't thought of it that way. I also liked how you said when you write prayers, it feels more settled than saying them verbally. This was a great video. Loved the music that was in it. Thank you for the advice. Sorry for watching this video late. I just moved and I'm still getting settled.

I love this!! Prayer journaling has truly changed my life and it’s a great place to be real with the Lord and let out everything. It helps me to clearly see my own sin and usually leads me to repentance and scripture to bring truth to my sometimes sinful thoughts. Sometimes I just start with doodling or script fonts I love the scrap booking idea!!

I have pretty much always prayer journaled in a way. Like from 14 to now I’m 30. Wow I said 30 as of Tuesday I will be. 😬 But I want to be educated a little bit more about it, and see what you do, and see if it’s different from me. And I love it because I can almost go through it days months years later and check off when my prayers are answered. Whether it’s a Yes or a No or not now from God. Thank you for making this. Because I have really started again as of March 23’ because of what is going on in this point of my life.

Good afternoon. How would you start a journal if you never attended a church or even know how to pray. I'm just starting out along with my young son. He's actually the one who has asked to start church and prayer. Also, how do I find a church that I know will benefit both of us. Thank you for your time.

    • @sharticiagomez2458
      @sharticiagomez2458 ปีที่แล้ว

@jennw109 I think it's amazing that your son asked to start going to church. Prayer is simply deep conversation with God, and I was taught an easy acronym that I use to pray. A.C.T.S. Adoration: Praise God for who He is. Confession: Lay your sins out before Him and ask for forgiveness. Thankfulness: Express your gratitude to God for whatever He has done. Supplication: Go to God on behalf of others; pray for whoever is in your heart or mind.
I do this method, or sometimes, as of late, I pray scriptures back to the Lord. Whatever is on your heart, just pour it out to God on paper and you will begin to see your life change. Pray for God to lead you to a Bible believing church and He will. Jesus rejoices in your desire to draw near to our Father, so just keep talking to God in prayer, and He will direct your path. I am praying for support, friendship, and guidance for you along your journey 🙏 😊.

Just write what you are thinking and find a verse in the Bible and just start writing about it. Also, I would encourage you to start in the Lord’s Prayer and go from there! A church can also help you with this, so I’ll be praying you guys are able to find one!

I start my journal each day with what I call the Bare bones prayers.. I used to ramble on to God about the things heaviest on my heart worries etc and I feel like he challenged me to kind of list the things on my heart I'm as few words as possible. So I'll list them like 1. Paying bills this month 2. This sore tooth.. do I go to the dentist or pray more. 3. Wisdom on finding a job again.. where to start.
I do that first then I just talk to God and just write what I think he's saying to me or scriptures I think fit etc. I'm talking to God either out loud or silently so my journal is sort of notes. Then i try to have a section to put things I'm grateful for. And I like to do random things. Of course I'd say my family etc so I pick random but powerful things like and this will sound wierd Bur one thing is my ceiling in my bedroom.. I moved to VA from WI a couple years ago and one of the things I love about the small condo is the bedroom abd the vaulted ceiling. It's shaped so unique abd the walls are a dark teal with white ciel8ng. I'm never tired of looking up in my bedroom. Also I'm grateful for things God's created like the Ocean and all the creatures.. how amazing the sand looks up close.. seashells... just random things but things thar have such meaning to me. I'm also grateful for things that I think God has done special for just me. I was reminded of this when my son who's 22 told me he had a sore throat. I gave him Tylenol and he's fine but it reminded me of one of the coolest things God has ever done for me. I used to get strep or sore throats all the time as a kid. As an adult too. It was my worst thing. To most they are an annoyance but to me I can't eat or drink much and I just hated them. One day about 28 years ago I had a nasty sore throat. I was just married a year I think. I had to have liquid Tylenol because I couldn't swallow pills it hurt so much. I donr even remember praying for it to go away or anything but that was the last sore throat i ever had. I've had strep once since then and I remember the doctor saying "your throat is redder than a fire truck..are you sure it doesn't hurt? I said no. 28 years!! And I know it's God because I watched I think k Joyce meyer abd she was talking about some litter personal thing God did for her and I thought how I wished that stuff happened to me snd I instantly was reminded that I never get sore throats anymore!! Now I've had chronic joint pain severe post partum depression and if God said ill erase one thing right now I might not ha e picked sore throats but that's why it's special. He didn't have to do it. It's not like cancer. So back to topic I have my grateful section and sometimes I try to write a formal prayer but in my own words. Sort of like a poem to God. I try to do this every day.

Hmm I feel that you are correct, but.....as soon as we put pen to paper and cache the prayers away, we are being repetitive. I don't believe that it is up to us to get our prayers "in order." That is just a little too much.
Also, when all is said and done, we are leaving behind our struggles through our annotations, marginalia, and now our Prayer Journals. In a way we are leaving behind our troubles and Sins for someone else to take on. Be it our spouses or our children.
I recall opening my Nana's Bible and I did not feel "good" afterwards, reading her struggles. What was written in her datebooks, lead me to ask some hard questions. She passed away when I was quite young, around my 9th birthday, so I try to hang onto such fond memories; still.
