Thank you - it has worked really well for this orchid. I have another that is star shaped and I'm waiting for the right orchid to plant in it next year. Thanks for watching!
Ooo, I'm not so sure that I'd agree with this one. I'm central east coast Florida and have the same orchid that was a bag baby from the local big box HI store. It's been moved around a couple of times from a bright bathroom window, to a tree out back and finally to one of those wooden octagonal baskets hanging in my entryway where most of the other orchids are. She loves her basket and the strong light that comes in through a big skylight. The roots are growing out around the basket and she's gotten big and happy, with more flowers with each bloom. Maybe twice a year? Although I love that pot, you might want to get her out of there while you still can.
Isn’t it great that orchids can adapt…usually! This orchid has been in this pot for over a year now and is doing great with a lot of new growth and roots everywhere. There are 3 blooms developing. The two drawbacks are the need for frequent watering in the summer heat (even though there is media inside), and someday, I’ll probably need to break the pot if it needs a larger home. The roots are attached all over. Thanks so much for watching and happy orchid growing!
Thanks for this update! I'm in Austin, TX so I definitely understand the weather.. I'm not sure if I can get my orchids cold enough to bloom. I also have a Brassavola nodosa and it's growing so many leaves! I accidentally broke off a few and I'm not sure how to contain them. My leaves are much longer than yours also.
I’d be interested to know if you grow indoors, outdoors, or both. Indoors, just a room with less heat gives enough temperature drop for those orchids that prefer it. I think my Brassavola nodosa is a young plant, so it will likely get fuller with longer leaves if my care is on point. Thanks for watching!
I have one of these and it’s pretty healthy. I’ve watered them a few times and I’ve noticed they attract what look like baby German cockroaches. Not sure what to do about that. I have this same plant that was sold at Home Depot in a basket hanging and not in a pot.
Love that pot!

Where did you find the clay pot, very unique
I’m able to find those locally at nurseries in the Houston area.

Hmmm…you could try spraying with Neem oil as a deterrent. Thanks for watching and sharing - maybe someone else has had this experience??
