    I have one of these for a few months, awesome mower.
    Definitely a metal blade you drongo.
    I sharpened mine , last I heard sparks don't come from plastic.

    I just picked up this mower kit for $250 in May 2021 and am very happy after the first cut. If it survives cutting wet soggy heavy winter grass, then the old 2 stroke is going to be retired. Less noise, no smell, no pollution - I'm loving it!

    • @DENMONKEY
      @DENMONKEY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's a bargain. I made the mistake once of buying a cheaper 4 stroke mower after having 2 stroke. I hated that thing with a passion. Just no guts. I was glad when it died. my current one is also a 4 but a better quality. For a while though I thought I'd never run anything but a 2 stroke. So I know what you're saying. baby steps :)

      Wow $250 is a bargin, where did you get that from? Bunnings? $148 off the price tag is crazy good.

    • @Mububban23
      @Mububban23 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheSydguy30 yeah Bunnings, think it must have been the last one in store of that model or something similar. $400 would have made me hesitate but even if I'd paid full price, I'd be happy with performance (longevity will only become clear over years of ownership)

    Just picked one of these up a few days ago after my petrol mower wouldn't start. I have just about everything else Ozito in my shed so I figured why not get one of these. Man I have been amazed how good they really are.

    • @DENMONKEY
      @DENMONKEY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      haha. my petrol mower broke its throttle control cable. so i replaced it. it broke again. so now I use a aluminum pie tray jammed into the throttle to get it started, then move it and reshape it to keep it running . So I feel your pain. Craig keeps telling me how happy he is with it, so it might be my next mower. I cant in good conscience though, give up a 'working' mower even though it gives me grief every time. I do like a challenge. Also thanks for posting your experience. I don't ever want viewers to think my reviews are anything but honest. so its good when other post up their experience and it's similar to mine or craigs in this case. I accept that's not always going to be the case . so thanks for taking the time

    I've got the little 18V one which is great for smaller lawns and cuts high grass (10cm+) great. Easy to put in my car, too. Sheez, a plastic blade? Surely you could put a metal one on? The 18V has a good metal blade, which seems interchangeable with my Ryobi. I also wonder about the wheel longevity. How do the wheels stay on? My early Ryobi mower had the wheels fall off, so I drilled holes in the shaft and put split pins in.

    I think you’ll find that the reason for the plastic blade is not price. It’s probably something to do with the electric motor overcoming the inertia of the blade. Metal would be too heavy. It’s probably made out of ABS plastic which is pretty tough and cheap and easy to replace when required. Great review and for the price worth taking a look at. Cheers.

      The blade is metal, what are you talking about..

  • @TheSydguy30
    @TheSydguy30 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You sure it's a plastic blade? Never heard of a plastic blade, and my mower is the same as this one (and it has a metal blade) although this year they put out a self propelled version (everything else is exactly the same) with an added $67 to the price tag ($465) Sounds like they really made some concessions from their $399 Telescopic model just to get a "steel" top on it, where the rear is full plastic (where you'd want the protection arguably if the blade came loose. The catcher is worse than the $399 Telescopic model EASILY. The handle is worse (the Telescopic model is really ergo friendly). And the battery cover is more flimsy etc.
    So yeah seems like a fair bit of concessions were made in other areas to get the "steel deck" and the steel is SO thin as well!

  • @VK2YK

    Nice mower, might look at one down the track as I only have a about half a cricket pitch at the most where I live at the moment. I'm using a rotary push mower from Bunnings and works a charm and at $99 it was hard to not go down that track.
    Great to see the dynamic duo together again and the little teaser at the very end was good too.

      I'll have to check in on Craig and see how his is going. He hasn't complained about it, so I guess all is good. I think he actually went out and picked up something else Ozito from the same line but I can't recall what it was.Might have been the whipper snipper, so he must be happy with it.

    I wish my my ryobi 240v one had a plastic blade some one not me mowed the lawn and a lump of wood left by there kid in the grass and then the motor developed a bad wobble. Yep stuffed it right up, became a throw away mower, I suspect a plastic blade would break or bend b4 wrecking the motor shaft and a petrol mower shaft would probably survive the same lump of wood.

    The 18" Ozito PXC 36V (2 x 18V) 460mm Self-Propelled is available on order at Bunnings for $599 as
    a kit with 2 x 4.0 ah batteries & a dual fast charger included of mid 2024. This is still very good value.
    The killer feature of all Ozito cordless equipment is the very much lower cost of their batteries compared to all other brands. Their batteries are good quality.
    Next lowest cost is Skil.
    Next after that is Metabo.
    All the other big name brand's batteries are outrageously over priced.

      @@DENMONKEY Yes, I had, but think the arms were not contacting properly, as finally got it going OK. also with 2nd set of batteries following. Think it is 'just adequate' in performance though. The handle comes off the grass catcher each time it's lifted and wheels work like a tonka truck toy. Not sure how long they will last with use? They don't have ease of action over the grass or if pushed uphil. For the money, think they could have done a more sturdy construction? But am glad not to have motor to worry about.

      @@DENMONKEY Are you talking about the plastic blades? I got that one (that can convert from line trimmer to edge trimmer) and they last SO much longer than the lines with the whipper snippers. I always spent more time changing the damn cabling than actually doing the work as they kept breaking. LOVING the new method. HOWEVER on the bunnings website the replacements seem to be garbage (unsure what Ozito has done there) vs the ones that come with the device itself, so once they run out a lot of people recommended either eBay ones (as they are just as crap but FAR FAR cheaper) or the Bosch (Amazon for example) ones that are a direct replacement but last a long longer and better quality.
      I would never go back to a traditional whipper snipper now.
