  • In this video I ask Roland to fix the resample bug. I've updated to version 3.0.1 and sadly this still doesn't seem to have been sorted out!
    I also show a couple of features of resample that I really dig! I hope this was an informative and fun watch. More SP404-MK2 content coming soon...
    Thanks for tuning in and KEEP MAKING BEATS!

    Yo! I'm glad it's not me. I've only had it for about a week, busy w/ work & life shit, but finally figured out how to sample via external source. Tried to make a beat & this is what's happening to me too. I was seriously questioning my skills 30 years in. Thanks for this vid.

    Idk, I think it's on purpose. Even if it is a bug. I do like to use it to copy samples (ie. vocals) and adjust one of the copies to be slightly delayed and pad link the samples together to create a doubled sample. It's really dope

    Just wanted to say that your videos have been a huge help these last couple of days with me moving from an sp404-OG to the mk2. It felt comfortable enough to use on day 3, that i just used it at a 5 hour dj gig instead of using CDJs, a thought foreign to my old OG. Thanks a bunch for the hard work you put into great and understandable tutorials dude. Much love.

Although I have used only the sp404 for another dj set and it worked great, actually had more fun than with cdjs yet I still need to get more used to the DJ mode , any particular way you used the sp404 for the 5 hour set? did you used it in Dj mode or in sample mode?

Otherwise it's just an annoying quirk.

I thought this might be because the volume is to low to show the waveform but when I normalize the sample I still have extra dead space in front of the start point. It kills my motivation to use the SP sometimes and I just want to jump back to my MPC.

At least that's Pete Rock approach on SP1200 and Dilla as well who started on SP1200 than moved to MPC3000 where he really perfected that approach. I'm confused as to why this is such a big problem. When you start to use the sample it references the start point, not the space at the beginning. As someone whose been making beats for 20+ years, on just about every style of sampler there is, this is not an issue and I often adjust the space at the beginning of a sample to get a certain feel out of it. Hi hats for example. Also all you have to do is push in the encoder and hit truncate, if knowing that the space is there is such a bother. I find it hard to believe that anyone can make beats on this machine, with the constant retriggering of the sample every time you touch the start, end, or loop knobs. I get it if you always work alone and have gotten used to the hideous glitch, but I work in a studio with other people quite often and thats a no go. That would certainly be the number 1 problem with this machine. I keep waiting for someone to bring it up, but I guess most people don't notice that its not supposed to be like that.

    • @spvidz
      @spvidz  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I actually have mentioned that before and don't particularly like it either. My solution was to have an option to turn that off (can't remember now but at the time people made a case for having it on there so the option was the best solution). As for the first issue, I just like to have my samples butted up and truncated , especially one shots if I wanted to use them on other devices for example. Its ok for one or two maybe but imagine having to truncate 10,20, 30 drum sounds you'd put together. Its a minor gripe but I'd just like to see it fixed or have the option

    • @kellerglee
      @kellerglee ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@spvidz Could you not use the app on the computer to truncate them quicker, when you have that many samples? Might even allow you to select more than one samples at the same time, though I haven't check that.

      @donnydarko7624 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kellerglee how would using the app to truncate the sample be faster? Just don't understand how that would be the case. And I feel like the point of resampling is for the machine to automatically create perfect loop, I feel that should be the expectation from us. If you want an extra Gap in the front of it maybe there should be a setting where you can turn that on rather than something you have to turn off.

    • @kellerglee
      @kellerglee ปีที่แล้ว

      @@donnydarko7624 I agree that best would be to have it turned on/off according to your preference, but I was responding to SPVIDZ's particular case of truncating 10, 20 or 30 drum sounds to be used elsewhere. As far as I understand this extra space ahead of the samples does not affect the workflow on the SP-404 itself, as the start point is at the right moment. You can see people making use of it in various ways in this comment section. So my point was that in case you want to export dozens of samples, you'd need to use the computer anyway, and that's why it could potentially be faster. Especially if it lets you truncate more than one at the same time.

    • @donnydarko7624
      @donnydarko7624 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kellerglee yeah but because you're resampling something doesn't mean you are about to explore it a bunch of samples to your d a w or save stuff to your hard drive at that moment. I guess if the space in front of the sample is exactly the same every time, it wouldn't be that hard to implement batch truncating. Either way though I feel that if it is a feature and not a bug the default setting should be off, not on because I feel more often than not most people are going to want to read sample to create perfect loops.
