Great pick ups! I have used the natural rocks for years. Great idea on suction cup for pothos. I can't believe you bypassed the plants right next to the rocks. I get my super glue gel from the dollar store as well. I use it for attaching plants to rock or driftwood, you should definitely get some next time. EXCELLENT video Mel!

They have a very small, hand held sized, metal strainer that I use to pull Duckweed out of my tanks. Duckweed doesn't cling or get stuck in it like a net does. Its also so small and so fine, U can net fry with it if one gets sucked up during a water change. I have also used plastic containers from the DT as breeding cages or as jails for fish when they needed a time out. I have spent some money in there for the hobby. For sure. Great video.

You can also use the strainers, if the holes are big enough, or drill them out a bit, for floating a momma in a fry grow out tank while she drops. I think they will sit on the top of a 10, and you can use zip ties or pool noodle pieces to float the strainer in a larger aquarium or tub.

In addition to your great list Dollar tree often has square glass vases or candle holders that are fairly thin glass. Really good for getting a picture of a smaller fish.
They often have the little tiny terra cotta pots too. Great for hides but also a good way to protect plants from digging or moving by fish. The small glass containers work for this as well and become almost invisable in the water.
They often have suran wrap which can be used to seal a tank, hob or sump if you need to protect it from fumes or dust for any reason.
They also have aluminum foil that when slightly crinkled can be used to train a cat to stay off a light bar or hood because they do not like the feel or noise it makes.
Sometimes they have zip lock bags. They can be used to premeasure food if someone else needs to feed your tank. They can also be used to pre mix foods of you feed a variety of foods at the same time to make feeding faster on days you are short on time.
They often have battery operated push lights which are great for lights in and under your stands. Sometimes they have nightliggrs that can be used under tank as well if you have a spare outlet.
They often have mini strands if holiday lights also great under the tank.
Glass Christmas ornaments can also be good ornaments in the tank for a pop of color.
They often have the flavorless tums which are good for adding calcium. I use them for snails.
They often have electric, plumbers, and medical tape all of which can come in very handy around a fish tank.
They sometimes have super glue gel. Great for glueing plants or objects together.
Pipe cleaners are handy. They can be used to clean out or shape air tubing without blocking too much flow.
They often have rubber bands. These can come in handy in a fish room.
Sometimes they have small bags of colored sand. While it does need to be very very well rinsed it does not leach in the water and can be used as accents.
They often have very tiny jewelers screw drivers. These are amazing for cleaning out and scraping out propellers in hobs and water pumps. The baskets with the square holes make great containers to put inside something larger when trimming plants. I cant count the number of fry or small fish that have been saved when I remove plant trimmings or especially floating plants.
Sometimes they have laundry baskets that can be used as temporary large fish housing when set into a bath tub. Used one once after I learned some bigger fish can manage to dislodge the drain. I also have used them with turtles. And they make good equipment storage when not in use.
Sometimes they have knock off legos. Unlike real legos these sink. You can build stuff for the tank with them.
Sometimes they have butterfly nets. They make pretty good fish nets.
In stationary they often have binder clips. The large size is great for securing things like wires or tubes to the tank. The wire clips on the make a great nest for hoses when combined with a zip tie.
Every once in a while they have ceramic salt and pepper shakers. They are water and fish safe and I have gotten snails, turtles, crabs, and skulls. They make great ornaments. Much better than resin.
Another great ornament / hide / cave are glass vases or candle holders tipped sideways. I once found solar lights with blown glass orbs. The multi colored orbs make gorgeous fish hides.
Sometimes they have geode slices in craft too.
Sometimes they have plastic chip clips or laundry pins they are great for sinking vegetables. Or clipping things to the tank.
You can often find pantyhose which makes great media bags for carbon or other things you add to the filtration system. These also work great to cover the intake of a filter to keep fry out of it.
They often have plastic table cloths or shower curtains. These are great for putting down during situations where you want to protect carpet or wood floors from tank water while working in the tank.
They almost always have poster board. This is easily taped to the back of the tank to block light or hide wires.
Sometimes they have plastic canvas in crafts. This works great for creating a cage around an overflow to keep floating plants, fry, fish, or large foods out of the filter without blocking or restricting the flow. It can also be used to create a tank divider that still allows water flow.
They often have nylon net laundry bags in a couple different sizes. These can be used to hold supplies but can also be cut up to use as a baffle for a hob filter if you have fish like betta that prefer less flow. Just cut a strip and put it in the media chamber and then drape it into the water.
Baby bottle brushes work great for cleaning out overflow pipes. Especially the ones that are drilled. Below the water line to reduce the noise of the overflow.
They always have picture frames. The glass can often be cut for lids to small tanks. Sometimes they have mirrors that can be cut and used the same way.
Sometimes you can find small bags of poly fiber floss for stuffing toys. This makes an amazing water polisher.
They often have foam cut out pieces. These work great for protecting glass on glass contact with heaters if you have big fish that are rough on bumping the heater. I also use them to pad the fans on my light bar to prevent rattling and under my air pump too.
They often have exacto type knives or blades. These work great for getting a clean cut on rhizomes on live plants. Also good for getting cleaner cuts on tubing.
Sometimes they have small dry erase boards. Great for keeping track of last water change or medication dates. I keep one by my quarentine tank to keep track of when fish went in and what they have been treated with.
Sometimes they have printer labels. Great for sticking to the plastic frame to write down fish or plant names so that you can at a glance identify the contents of any given tank. My labels often include preferred perameters, temperatures and foods.
They often have pill boxes or empty spice bottles. Very good for pre measuring food if you need someone else to feed in your absence or for a safe way for kids to feed.
They often have plastic forks or ordourve picks that are also good for sinking vegetables.
Sometimes they have larger clear plastic boxes. These can be used as quarentine or fry grow out space.
Best of all they carry foam sponges often in a multi pack. With or without the scrubby pad they work just as well if not better than aquarium grade sponge for bacteria beds. The multi colored plastic scouring pad and the scrubby pads also work as bacteria bed media.

You can reuse those rock bags for bio media in your filter. The strainer and bucket would also work for rinsing gravel. Definitely want to get water pitchers for water changes or topping off evaporated water.

I think your conversions would increase if you got to the point and moved the rambling and updates to the end of your video or did better mixing it in with your substance. This was my first time watching one of your videos and I almost clicked away because you spent the first 25% of the video talking about things I didn't click for.

    • @HaYNFishKeeper
      @HaYNFishKeeper  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I understand where you’re coming from, but I roll with those %’s .. The 1st 25% are updates for the majority of my audience it’s all about percentages with YT no one sees my Analytics but me, I know what people want and if I got 75% of people wanting updates and love my content I’m rolling that route, I know viewers like yourself may click off and that’s okay I don’t expect for everyone to like my content it’s merely a YT Analytics thing that’s all. I do appreciate the love and support though 🤙🏽🐠🤜🏽💥🤛🏽
