  • The Vision VTOL is designed specifically for the imminent evolution of electric power storage and energy breakthroughs. This is an area that we have been working very closely with for years at the cutting edge. Transportation is about to take a massive leap forward.
    Current Lithium batteries are the only remaining limit to range and cost of electric vehicles. At the same time a quiet revolution in aviation has occurred. There are now more quadcopters and multirotors flying than any other type of aircraft. The only reason why full size electric multirotors are not practical yet is because of range.
    Electric motors are inevitably more reliable than turbines or piston engines by nature with only one moving part. The simplicity of electric quadcopters is that there is no need for control surfaces, wings, fuel systems or other limitations of conventional aircraft. The electronic controls, software and sensors are the same for a drone, single seat or flying home and already fully developed. This enables a huge advantage over current aviation in safety, cost, reliability and scalability.
    At only 4 times current Lithium polymer density, the Vision becomes practical with a 4 hour range. We are working with 30 times current density and storage life expectancy. This allows transcontinental range at high speed and will inevitably make electric aviation by far the most practical form of transportation.
    Imagine a car with a 10,000 mile range. Now imagine what that really means. With a similar advance in electric aviation, roads and even airports can become almost obsolete.
    The Vision is the beginning of a new breed of transportation that is specifically designed for ultra long range electric power and storage - point to point transportation with unprecedented safety and luxury. First designed over 10 years ago, all technologies required are now fully developed.
    Welcome to the future.

    I have monitoring this VTOL over the years and waiting on flit testing have visited you web site . Very impressive is there a time line on development to release of this VTOL . A fitting craft for the blue collar worker . There has been advances made on battery and capacitor storage for use on this type of air craft . I'm sure you are aware of back wash from front engine . The rear engines should not only move as shown but also be mechanically / hydraulically raised above the back wash of front engine . Simple design to be mass produced

    Regarding comments relating to lack of wing area.
    Vision was developed to optimize transition from vectored thrust (quadcopters) to wing assisted vectored cruise. Research ring wings to understand.
    More importantly, this aircraft was designed around significant breakthroughs in energy and power density, increasing speed and range. This means we are less concerned with wasting fuel in hover and more interested in high cruise speed where very little wing area is needed.
    Size of conventional aircraft wings are a compromise between cruise and stall speed. Helicopters and quad/multi rotors have no conventional wing or stall speed (other than a rotor top speed limitation).
    Quadcopters, like helicopters tilt forward significantly in high speed cruise but the fuselage then adds considerable drag. The Vision fuselage maintains optimum AOA at all speeds. At cruise, less than 1 degree of upward ring tilt (angle of attack) is required.
    There are 8 motors. 2 motors and props per duct.
    Finally, consider that a high speed missile requires no main wing. A cruise missile uses a wing to compensate for the limitations of the powerplant. Wings are used to extend range at the sacrifice of speed.

    Very nice concept :)))) and very cool :))). Just next time please consider some airfoils - some wings or aircraft's body as an airfoil because "someone" need to generate lifting force when it flies forward (if all 4 propellers are 90 degree angle with the ground). And do not forget - doubled propellers (redundancy expected :)), as the parashute :)))) I think this is one of the best vtol vision here on yt :))))))

    You are really telling me those fans provide enough wing area/lift when tilted fully back? Also that puts the rear fans directly in the backwash of the front fans, surely the rear fans should be mounted on a T tail.

      The push-pull configuration of the Dornier aircraft, such as the sea planes, worked very well. The theoretical loss is only a few percent and as Dornier found in actual p[practice negligible and overwritten by the lower drag. Lift goes up by the square of speed. The lifting area consists of 1 stub wings inboard of the ducted fans. 2 The horizontal components of the circular ducts themselves. 3 the support structs for the motors within the fan. 4 the fuselage itself.

    The quad copter has no lifting wings and do not not have enough thrusts for lifting speed, and how about the paid load. I might be wrong but people tend to mistaken an airplane for a simple drone.and if there is a negative air pressure it will crash.

      Lillium is impressive though I suspect the Vision Quadcopter configuration will outperform it as well as providing a very useful but reduced landing footprint. Lilium's strength will be the incredible redundancy it offers. Visions quadcopter should be able to continue flight with the complete failure of a single Electric Ducted Fan but will need to rely on a ballistics parachute after that.

    Adding to Bob's comment...normal planes only need the big wings for low speed flight and take-off&landing. With VTOL we can do the low speed stuff with vertical mode and transition at 3 times the landing speed of a plane, putting so much more pressure on the wings and they work more effectively for their size (thus it only requires small wings). And smaller wings have other added advantages, less cost, less weight, better visibility, more speed, more fuel economy (the list goes on). I wonder why nobody has done it yet. It's either extremely difficult and complicated, or they just simply don't want to do it. As with all inventions it only needs one crack-pot to actually BOTHER trying. If nobody bothers, no new invention. Thomas Edison tried to make a light bub that was already thought of, but hasn't worked for any length of time. But a couple of "crack-pot" did bother to do it and in 1880 the light bulb was being born. If he didn't do it we still may not have had incandescent light bulbs. The light bulb was really difficult but by picking out bamboo laden with carbon for a filament (from thousands of other materials) he was successful. VTOL may also be difficult but with software this should have changed by now, if they can do all that other fancy stuff. And it should only take one person willing to tackle small VTOL PAV's and maybe they will be successful. We all want electric and that's still out of reach (unless you want to spend heaps on batteries, ongoingly). lol So model plane gas-turbine engines are the go, cos they sound better than pistons and have power that last long enough without the battery cost. But you would need at least 6 engines to get enough power and that's good cos of engine-out safety. The more engines the safer the ride. I don't recommend 4 engines cos if one quits, it's less safe than with 6 (I reckon). Even if it does have some sort of engine-out software (which would be mandatory, I would imagine).They have done VTOL with the Osprey, but not with small stuff (that I think is even more exciting). Single seat solve lots of problems cos it's so much more within reach and is just as exciting (as long as you have a decent canopy). lol

    This design should work in real life. This is a quadcopter and uses the same FCS and the toy drones. The only sticking point is the power requirements for the duct fan in a horizontal position. Work has been done on duct fans, and the results are very interesting, the fans do act as a ring wing, which makes the tilt possible. However, I do have to do the calculations for thrust requirements for the full scale - it does need to be able to lift about 1600 lbs. (max load), and this point the available motors plus the generator needed would weigh quite a bit. A quick thought was using 40kv motors, but not sure if it would be enough. Motor RPM would also need to be in the 3500 to 6000 RPM range. This means the fans would need to be very strong to avoid flying apart. Yes this can be done right now, just seems Weebly just doesn't want to make the prototype because the want it to be battery powered.

    How does this aircraft generate lift when the rotors are front facing? I have always liked planes, but I have never been too impressed with the current crop of small propeller planes. The electrification of aircrafts could overcome some inherent shortcomings of gasoline powered planes.

    Would it stay up if you get a bird strike in one pod, and if it would be able to stay up, how would it? With 6 pods it should be easier to make it stay up (I reckon). Great concept though (just needs 6). Pressed "like" and subbed.

    • @uniphi100
      @uniphi100  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. If an entire rotor fails, two opposing ducts maintain lift and the third balances. We are also taking advantage of the latest drone developments in stability and flight management algorithms. There are two motors per duct and the latest version has two rotors per. Ballistic chute backup. More importantly, the Vision program is not limited to a configuration. This is just the initial single seat version which happens to be a quad arrangement. The number of ducts or props varies depending on application. Our approach is collaborative with other electric VTOL programs due to the breakthroughs in energy density and storage we are working with. Supporting those breakthrough is the most important aspect of the program.

    • @Justwantahover
      @Justwantahover 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      "Our approach is collaborative with other electric VTOL programs due to the breakthroughs in energy density and storage we are working with. Supporting those breakthrough is the most important aspect of the program." lol
      I have an equal enthusiasm in electric hoverboards. I got my hoverboard concept down-pat (like you have) but the batteries at the moment are a joke. But the ultra-caps and the new-fangled battery stuff that replaces lithium with some other substance to make the extremely fine hairs inside the battery stay in tact (hopefully making 200 times more recycles).
      High powered hoverboards and PAVs are out-of-the-question with today's batteries. It would cost a dollar a minute to ride a hoverboeard (just with battery replacement cost alone). lol The Arcaboard (on You Tube) would cost at least $2000 for a new battery-pack, and you would have to buy a new one once every month. That's $2,000 a month to ride the hoverboard. lol That is, if you rode the hoverboard a lot every day. And it's also because it's so power hungry. Not many are going to buy one, are they.
      But at least you have the option to use gas-turbine engines (a bit hard to do in a hoverboard). 4 or 8 model plane gas-turbines (in your 4 pods). There are two piston projects that achieved successfull hover flights on multi-piston engines, with todays stability software applied (and has only really happened after the advent of electric quad software etc). One machine was weighted with a 70 kilo weight simulating a human and it flew to 10 feet high. It had 8 x 10 hp piston model aircraft engines. The stabilizing software worked fine on piston engines. The other project with 8 piston engines is a much larger craft (has been test flown ) but empty, I think. It also is a ground vehicle as well (both machines are on You Tube).
      If model plane piston engines can carry 70 kg of payload in hover ("proven" on You Tube) then gas-turbines should do it as well, they sound better, burn cleaner, lighter and you might get a half hour out of the kero. With battery it would be more difficult and more costly to get the performance and duration. lol But when batteries improve, then change over. That way you still have a dream (regardless of what happens in the future).

    Naturally, there are risks involved in removing the system safety
    redundancy that the capacity of unpowered flight provides the end user
    with. Provided that acceptable safety standards can be met (and what is
    an acceptable time between failures?) this is a great idea, if not...
    then it's just stupid. It's not like you would want to use any type of
