What was nice about Savage in cartoons was that he seemed to really get them, he felt like a natural voice actor and not just someone being thrown in front of a mic. Even some professional screen actors can't voice act as well as he did.
There was a episode of Futurama where Bender become a wrestler called "Bender the Offender" later they forced him to change gimmick to "Gender Bender".
that's debatable if that was wrestling, boxing or mixed mma.... it was called "ultimate robot fighting League" which makes it seem like it was suppose to be MMA / ufc. granted it certainly had some wrestling ideas to it, like him switching his gimmick due to popularity.
Glad to see the Kim Possible ep get some shine (and with the kayfabe joke to boot). It was always a pleasure to hear Savage's voice in some of my favorite shows throughout the years. Rest easy, Macho.
ReeceIsMe well it was less of a wrestling episode as it was more centered around the Olympics parody and so they replaced amateur wrestling for a professional wrestling segment. Agree would love to have heard him mention it like "this is also a classic but is purely just a segment in the episode but I should mention it here as to not get flagged for it in the comments" would have found that funny
In the Professional Wrestling Segment Their Pants got ripped off and SpongeBob and Patrick walked away in their Yellow and Pink underwear much to Mr. Krabs's and Plankton's disappointment.
LuchaDandy I think this has to do with shows with one off wrestling themed episodes and cameos of wrestlers in cartoons not shows based around wrestling
There's a Japanese game called Yakuza 6: The Song of Life and in the Game, Some famous Japanese Wrestlers show up in the game as Yakuza Characters and You can fight them as mini-bosses. It's also cool, They played them selfs and do their wrestling Poses in the game.
The McZilla Besides Hogan,Pipper,And Rvd i don't recall any other wrestlers being in the Saints Row series as either themselves in Pipper's case or as a voice cameo in Hogan's and Rvd's case whp else has been in that series that was voice by a wrestler?
matt ford the whole series has a bunch of wrestling moves & taunts & in SR3 there is a gang of luchadores & The leader Killbane makes many references to wrestling like “high spots” & the “Montreal screw job”
The McZilla You said Brian should do wrestlers in video games none of the stuff counts as wrestlers in video game because those are references to wrestling not actual wrestlers in video games so again i ask you who besides Hogan,Pipper, and RVD have been in a Saints Row game either as a voice camo or as themselves?
Rugrats, Dexter's Laboratory, Space Ghost: Coast 2 Coast were awesome 90s cartoons. Those episodes were some of my favorites, Macho Man as Space Ghost's grandpa was pure gold. "Is that you, Thaddeus?" "Yes, it's me, grandpa, what happened?" "Your pet monkey hit me with a folding chair...." xDD
That Dial M for Monkey segment sounds like the plot of Marvel 2in1 Annual#7(1982) a boxing match between the Thing and The Champion for the fate of the Earth.
Kurt Angle's currently voicing a recurring character on OK K.O.: Let's be Heroes named Chip Damage, and he fits him pretty well. I could tell that he had fun with the role in his first appearance.
Will you cover Tiger Mask? I don’t know if in US is easy to find but in Japan (and Italy as well) is a milestone of animation! There’s Antonio Inoki, Giant Baba, Rikidozan and many more. There’s also a second (weak) season featuring also Andre the Giant and Abdullah the Butcher and a brand new one that came out very recently featuring a lot of NJPW wrestlers. Please Brian, cover it!! :)
Michele Frisoli Well, we always thought it was awesome. It was a very intriguing series and for many Italian fans, such as me, it introduced us to professional wrestling. It also showed the pour conditions of Japanese orphanages and once the series was over many people started donating money for orphans crediting as Naoto Date, which is the protagonist’s name (tiger mask). A good anime that pushed people in doing good actions too.
Michele Frisoli Well, it’s a matter of taste (and age too)! The anime had incredibly high quality hardcore matches before hardcore wrestling was even a thing! For me it will be always among my favorite animes ever, as for many Italians as well.
Tiger Mask W occasionally shows up on the free TV app Pluto for anyone interested in potentially seeing it for free. I don't think Pluto has any kind of discernible schedule though, so it's kind of a luck thing to find anything on there.
Was totally hoping for the “Particle Man” short from Tiny Toon Adventures with the return of the Crusher and an appearance by Universe Man (not Brock).
Talk about having a personal connection to a video! This entire video I was thinking of Savage in Dexter and then you reveal it as the main event! EXCELLENT
There was another Cartoon Network show that had a take on wrestling. Regular Show did one, where main characters Mordecai and Rigby play-wrestle and in the process discover that one of their bosses - the large-headed Pops - was a Greco-Roman wrestler. They end up at a "Really Real Wrestling" live event, Pops gets mistaken for a wrestler called Big Head, and ends up getting pulled into the main event. The episode, like South Park, plays upon the confusion between the "fake" pro wrestling and the "real" Greco-Roman wrestling. There's also another episode that sees Mordecai and Rigby (again) play-wrestling in their room with a stuffed doll that is clearly modeled on the one of Hulk Hogan from the 80's. Through the show's magical hijinks, they end up having to contend with a giant monster that has also taken on the appearance of the Hulk Hogan doll.
Mucha Lucha deserves a shout! Celebrity Deathmatch and The Simpsons were my childhood! Another fun fact, Mick Foley voiced the character of The Boulder in Avatar The Last Airbender in a very wrestling based episode. (Wrestling and Bending)
The Tiny Toons music video for Particle Man by They Might Be Giants was what sparked my initial interest in wrestling when I was 4. Not even my kidding, I still watch that shit like once a week to this very day.
@@theeternalslayer there is also the upcoming episode for season twelve called patrick,s tantrum where mr krabs coaches patrick to enter a wrestling ring and fight -off the champion harry the health hazard
You finally did the video you promised in your Wrestlers in Sitcoms video. Also did you tell Dan Severn that he has your favorite Wrestling theme song?
I'm a huge Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies fan, and I love how you covered "Porky the Wrestler." The other cartoon, "Bunny Hugged" is more well known, but I appreciate you going back to some of the earlier shorts. Also, your comment about the racial insensitivity of the older cartoons popped me, considering some folks don't know how many racial stereotypes these shorts had that were censored on TV.
I noticed something: in your review, you mentioned a sign in the background that says “pig fight.” The version of “Porky the Wrestler” that you used in the video is the redrawn colorized version, not the original black and white one. Warner Bros. took 78 Looney Tunes cartoons that were originally in black and white and had them redrawn with color in Korea in the late 1960s. A lot of mistakes and sloppiness occurred in these redrawn colorized cartoons, and the quality of the animation slipped tremendously. That sign is one of many errors in these versions. The original black and white version from 1937 says “big fight.” Not sure if you knew that, but figured I’d let you know. This isn’t a criticism of the video, not at all! It’s more of a jab at how lousy the redrawn versions of these cartoons are. 😂
I always considered Hanna-Barbera and Looney Tunes as the "WCW of animation" in comparison to Disney being the "WWE of animation." The fact that both WCW and Looney Tunes were owned by Turner at one point supports this.
Warner beat Disney hands down when it came to animated shorts. Even MGM outdid Disney in that area. Disney placed more of their focus on the features and, really, their best short material was the Donald Duck cartoons and some of the Goofy ones. The best of those were from the 40s. Warner and MGM stayed strong into the 60s, until economics and changing movie theater set-ups sounded the death of cartoon shorts.
My favorite Macho Man appearance besides Grandpa Ghostel was as the substitute teacher on Hey Arnold. He puts 3 people in each corner of the classroom and puts Stinky in the 4th. When asked why he just simply replies *SYMMETRY!* Gets me every time lol
Um... no. Viacom and WarnerMedia(which owns Warner Brothers cartoons and DC) are two separate companies (unless there has been a recent merger that I haven’t heard about).
Not sure if it really counts, but there was that one episode of Mucha Lucha where Buena Girl meets a character who was highly based off Rey Mysterio....named Rey Malifico:3
See's Dan "The Beast" Severn in intro. How did Brian Zane not die even talking to the beast can lead to you spontaneously combusting from his sheer awesomeness. Good video as always Brian can't wait for more awesome content from you my guy keep it up.
Yes, that episode really has a lot of heart with Eddy truly wanting Edd to have more confidence in himself; it's one of the better characteristics of Eddy with him not only caring about his friend's confidence issues but seeing a lot of potential in Edd to do great things, even when Eddy's training just caused more embarassment. I'd like to think that Edd did get a confidence boost in that episode, because in the end he knows that he has friends he can rely on. Too bad the later seasons got rid of Eddy's good characteristics, and just focuses on his more flawed ones.
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE INTRODUCTORY EPISODE FOR TOPH FROM AVATAR THE LEGEND OF AANG??????!!!!!! IT FEATURES MICK FOLEY AS "THE BOULDER", A CARICATURE OF DWAYNE "THE ROCK" JOHNSON, HOW COULD YOU MISS IT????????!!!!!!!
Mohammad Abid Rashid correct me if I am wrong, but isin't Avatar an anime? If yes then that would require a whole list by itself, considering that alot of anime usually comes with wrestling themed episode's.
My favorite moment in that American Dad episode was just the guy in the background just all "... yeah." at Hogan, always makes me chuckle. And fuck yeah Dan Severn!
Great video! Randy Savage also had a guest appearance on an older web cartoon called "College University." (Made by the same guys who went on to make Sonic for Hire and animated shorts for Cynaide and Happiness.) The whole thing was basically him hanging out with the main characters and giving romantic advice. It was part of the promotion for that "Be a Man" album he put out.
That Ren And Stimpy episode is one of my favorites...still remember that post match promo lol. "WE ARE ANGRY. WE ARE SORE. MAD DOG AND KILLER KATOOGON CHEATED..."
Honorable mention to Mick Foley who was the voice of “The Boulder” a Rock parody in Avatar: The Last Airbender
Wait seriously?! It's one of my favorite episodes of ATLA
And in Squidbillies where he played retired washed-up wrestler Thunderclap Cherokee Atwater
@@newelljoseph5060wtf are you even talking about? Thunderclap was FAR from washed up at that point
Roddy Piper on Robot Chicken was one of the funniest things I’ve ever watched when it came out

"Slim Jims! I FUCKING LOVE SLIM JIMS!"
Mychael Jones I support that idea big time
That roar in his voice remains awesome
Dan "The original Beast" Severn. Sorry Brock.
I appreciate your apology to Brock for the Warrior avatar.
Immorpher oof
Brock is not "The Beast" he is "The Beast Incarnate" get it right.
Immorpher Warrior fucking sucked
@Fred Casden's Basement Thank you.
As a lifelong animation fan and fairly recent wrestling fan, this retrospective was an utter joy to watch.
What was nice about Savage in cartoons was that he seemed to really get them, he felt like a natural voice actor and not just someone being thrown in front of a mic. Even some professional screen actors can't voice act as well as he did.
Doing post-production colour commentary might secretly be great training for voice-acting.
There was a episode of Futurama where Bender become a wrestler called "Bender the Offender" later they forced him to change gimmick to "Gender Bender".
Gromnir897 Commence preparation for rumbling!
"I am DESTRUCTOR AAAHHLLAAAGHHHH!!!"
I used to think robot fighting was real like wrestling. Now I know it's fake like boxing.

The greatest heel in history: The Foreigner. "I'm not from here! I have my own customs! Look at my crazy passport!"
Hulk Hogan as the dean in China IL was probably the best thing I've seen in a long time.
It also didn't hurt the mayor was an impression of Macho Man lol
Sebastian Gomez Hogan's best work.
Damn beat me to it. Lol
I was actually just about to write this in the comments when I saw this. I agree wholeheartedly.
I was going to mention that. That was a good one
“seen here doing his best Scott Steiner impression” 😂
This is the kind of quality content I subscribed for!
Celebrity Deathmatch is the reason why I started watching wrestling. I saw Austin vs. McMahon. Then, I saw Heat in November 1998
Yeah I watched Celebrity Deathmatch, before WWF. But I didn't start watching Livewire, until 1999. That's how I could get the recap for the week.
Glad to see the Kim Possible ep get some shine (and with the kayfabe joke to boot). It was always a pleasure to hear Savage's voice in some of my favorite shows throughout the years. Rest easy, Macho.
Lucky SOB for getting Dan Severn to do your intro!
He had a extra 5 bucks to spend
Rob Van Dam and Rowdy Rowdy Piper where also in Saints row.
peter Ian Staker also Hulk Hogan as Angel De La Muerte.
Conrado Javier yeah but he already mentioned him in the video
Foley, Chyna and Taker have also voiced themselves on Deathmatch!
Also Undertaker Used His Tombstone Piledriver In An Cartoon It's The First Time That Undertaker Used His Finisher In The Cartoon
I remember that
Forgot to mention Mick Foley as The Boulder in Avatar: The Last Airbender. It's honestly the best Rock parody I've ever seen.
Damn, I was waiting in the pro wrestling segment of the Fry Cook Games episode of Spongebob
TheHagfish I guess he will cover more next week
Or... Krusty Krushers. An underrated episode.
I cry laughing everytime I see/hear Roddy on Robot Chicken LMFAO
Roddy Piper's idea of stealth seems somehow spot-on for that character. lol

Animation month? Great, this will be awesome
I remember Ed, Edd, n Eddy having an episode featuring wrestling. That promo Stimpy cut, I think he took notes from Ultimate Warrior.

Hope you include "Captain" Lou Albano doing the voice work for the super mario bros super show cartoon segments this month
Mario U BILLY BILLY BILLY
Mario U best mario voice, next to the actually Mario voice actor

That Dial M for Monkey segment sounds like the plot of Marvel 2in1 Annual#7(1982) a boxing match between the Thing and The Champion for the fate of the Earth.

Also going into anime, Minoru Suzuki guest starred on One Piece

I know I'm 2 years late but you missed China, IL where Hogan plays the principal and all around bastard! Underrated show!
