As a comics reader who is old enough to have bought both the first Wrightson/ Wein & first Alan Moore's off the stands I would have to agree with you about reading both series. Back-to-back, if possible, to see how Moore built on a work of pure genius. He took the series to levels I don't believe the original creators ever imagined. Both are great works.
That look on your face says it all, one happy fan. I've got the 80s mini series Roots of the Swamp Thing reprinting the Len Wein & Bernie Wrightson issues and the Swamp Thing Bronze Age trades, I'm happy with them but its nice to see your Absolute, those are lovely deluxe books for collectors to fall into the artwork.
Great review Larry! Personally I've yet to deep dive into Swamp Thing. I've only read about a third from the New 52 omnibus and so far I love it. But it seems like I need to take a trip back in time for this and Alan Moore's run at some point ^^
In my opinion you DO. I could certainly be wrong but it seems like it would be best to have a good foundational understanding of a character. Especially when such great reprints are available in a variety of formats.
I highly recomend the manga series "One Piece'' it is a modern oddessy, larry definatly check it out you will be amazed by the artwork.. if you look up ( one piece color spreads) you will get you huge colored pictures of his stuff. it is spectacular please check it out.
