Great to see there are still a few young ones that know what hard feels like. Nice job handling that saw and dropping that big guy. Be proud of yourself.... Most 20 year olds wouldn't even know how to start a chainsaw non the less operate one. Thanks for sharing and keep the videos coming. The positivity is refreshing.
Nice deep face, no corrections needed. Perfect back cut. Sharp chain and hot saw kept right up with this gentle leaner. NO sliver pull, and fair enough hinge wood to hold it into the lay. That tree was growing for decades, and our creator knew the day and the men ( Mitch and his filming partner) who enjoy the harvest. Thanks so much for taking time to share this! BTW there's still plenty of wilderness and riparian zones for the remaining old growth. This unit has been planted, and 40-80 yrs from now another cycle will be thinned and eventually harvested again.
Hi Don. What a different time it was indeed. In the early 70's I was Cat logging old growth Redwood for Simpson Timber Co. in northwest California. Logging never leaves my blood.

For the people out there saying that it's sad cutting Old growth, or second growth or whatever, it's an art!! Not just something that can be done by anyone. And to us, it is something to be very proud of, especially when you walk out alive at the end of the day
Really? So I'm just guessing you're a liberal that would rather wipe your ass with a corn cob, and if you have kids, but being where you're from I'm guessing that you don't, but anyway, they can write on a rock with charcoal 🤣 jack ass
How does one find an in, into this kind of work? Google has failed to yield any results. I’m 22 and disillusioned with college, I love hard work and grew up on a farm. I just want to work outdoors with my hands.
Mitch Morrow is simply amazing. Skilled, level and never picks up that Stihl Saw until he knows that he can take down a 120 foot Douglas Fur. I am one of the tree fallers biggest fans

Im surprised at all the pisitive comments people give on this. He should have been watching the top of that tree when cutting. Quite often things fall from the top. That kid would be dead. Any real pro watches the top of the tree. This kid gave a few short glances at the top and continued watching the cut the whole time. Safety should be number 1 and if you have any kind of a clue as to tree falling you would know this. This kid gonna get clobbered over the head and be done tree falling by the age of 22 if he dont learn to look up more
Well your an idiot then. A pro tree faller watches the top of the tree when cutting it because thats where the danger is. Shit falling. Duh. That kid will be dead by age 22 for not looking up. Safety is always number 1 and that kid wasnt real safe just for the fact he didnt watch the top of the tree instead he looked down at the cut almost the entire time. Thats not the way to do it. Watch the top of the tree

When you have to post videos for attention your probably not that good. Looked like he was cutting on the back yard. Nothing special about cutting that tree. Please don't share any more videos
I don't post them for attention. I posted one for fun. Then figured out I could make money posting videos doing what I love, so I kept at it. I don't post them for validation or attention. I need neither. I know what I am, and that's a very talented timber faller with my share of demons. Even if someone doesn't like me, they can't deny my skill. I worked damn hard at it by showing respect to all of my colleagues, not just the top hands. My Dad told me that even the worst cutter knows at least one thing worth knowing. I asked questions and studied chains & spent countless hours in the saw shop fine tuning my grinder. I'm still learning and always welcome any insight from anyone willing to spend a minute chatting. For you to say I'm not good at what I do is laughable. Not sure why I'm wasting my time with this. You might whip me in a fistfight you might smoke me in a footrace, you might even be able to out spell me, but you will never be able to best me up the hill cutting timber and do as good of a job as me because you lack the one basic ingredient necessary to be in the top tier of timber fallers. It's respect. Hopefully you found this useful. If not.... I tried.
I wonder, the smaller log laying in the way that was cut to be moved out of the way and the small tree stump, why were these not moved away from the tree being cut down. I've been taught first make sure the area surrounding a tree being cut down is free of any hazard that blocks escape of the Sawyer.
It will never benefit us because those wood sale overseas Why you want deforestation Is it’s so ugly for clearcut all over the place It was also criminal against natural habitat If you want deforestation you can go live in deserts stop go to national parks filled with tall trees
You blokes are so lucky to have such beautiful straight soft trees that make the best lumber , I've been to the US and Canada a dozen times and I wish I could ship them down here to mill, instead I wear myself down cutting Ironbark and Bulloak.
Nice work young feller! See he was brought up right as he couldn't brag on hisself, hey Patrick see if you can corner Mitchell one day at the end of shift and interview him a little about how he came into timber fellin, who taught him, and if it runs in the family kinda stuff. That would make a neat video to hear how a young man earned his spot we see here. Safe cuttin men

120 feet is not much. 150 feet for Douglas is already more or less solid. What are the highest interesting solid arrays encountered? That is, I will explain if there is a place where all or almost all trees of the first tier are no less than the plant in this video?!
