I have never heard George Benson's version of this song but Whitney Houston has one of the greatest voices of all time so it is difficult to imagine him doing any better. Such a tragic loss.

I recommend a listen to Benson's version. It's nowhere near as good as Whitney's, but it's nice. It's also cool to hear a male voice singing it, & then a female singing it with more emotion. I love George Benson, but Whitney takes the cake on this beauty of a song.😎👍

Whitney Houston did a great cover, but George Benson is the originator of this song. A pop voice cannot give this song the message that Benson gave it. Whitney Houston Singing this song for the movie The Greatest doesn't have the same meaning as George Benson did. George Benson gives it a meaning of pride and power.

George Benson did vocals to this song. He did well, but Whitney is in a class of her own.

Whitney had an amazing voice and this song exemplified that. It was a massive hit topping the charts back in 86. You could've guessed from the minute you heard it, that it was going to be a #1.

This song makes me sad because, for all the emotion she put into this, she couldn't achieve the message with her own life. She fell into the spell of others that really messed her up and took her away far too soon. She could do no wrong in the 80s and I still feel her national anthem rendition in '91 is on a short list of the best ever.

I saw withney one time in my life was in love right away with her beauty exceptional voice she add it all pure perfection certainly one of my top 3 female singers of all times in my book I put her in my top 3 not number one because she is the perfect example of what fame comes to people some can handle it some simply can’t and unfortunately for all of us she couldn’t handle it she fell into drugs lost her voice and the rest well we all know what happened to much short of a career for me to put her at number one for me but maaann what a talent what a voice she add for 12 years in that time she she was the greatest female singer in the world 🌎 by far for me again exceptional talent that went the way just like many other great female singers

Whitney is my favorite female vocalist of all time. She had unbelievable soul, timing, a purity of tone and the rare ability to bring the subtlety or power of a lyric in every register of her four-plus--octave voice. Couple of interesting things about this song. This could be urban legend, but I heard from one of my reputable industry colleagues that when the song's melody writer Michael Masser produced this version of the song, he recorded Whitney's vocals in mutiple studios.
I think at that time, most studios were probably 16 tracks, at best, if not still just eight. I was told Michael cut versions of Whitney in 3 different studios...and then slaved all 3 versions in a warehouse, linking up all the recording machines and, taking the best vocal mixes of each performance, which then became the final mix and record. This was a tidious, time-intensive process, taking Whitney's best vocal licks and making sure that everything flowed, including even her breathes between notes. Then, that version was played for Whitney, who obviously had never previously heard the final mix. I was told that she listened to it twice and then performed it perfectly as it was mixed, to a live audience, a few hours later, as if she had rehearsed it a hundred times. Benson's version was solid, but Whitney's performance, "owns" this tune.

Omg, Saving All My Love, was her first release. At least that’s what I remember, lol. I listen to that song all the time. I will never forget the day I heard she passed. I couldn’t believe it was true, but it was as we were setting up for the baby shower of my first niece. The day was long and I didn’t really get a chance to think about the news, if it was even true. When I got home that night and found out it was true, I cried for awhile. Typing this is making me tear up right now.

I went back and listened to the original by George Benson from 1977. It was the main theme for the Muhammad Ali movie "The Greatest" also 1977. I got a different feeling from the earlier version which seemed to be an anthem for the children and our future. Surprisingly there was no guitar solo just George's excellent vocals. Now with Ms. Whitney Houston I'm just heartbroken over her. Not much more I can say.

George Benson is an excellent vocalist along with his expertise as a guitarist. His version of GLOA is also exquisite and emotional. Two stellar versions done of this song by two legendary artists. A great George Benson song to react to, along with his original of this, would be, “Gimme The Night”.
As for Whitney, a pre-The Bodyguard fave song of hers is from her second album WHITNEY, which is, “Didn’t We Almost Have It All”. It’s a beautiful ballad in the same tone and vocal realm as GLOA.

Whitney Houston could've carried a note through a hurricane. What defines a great singer? She does. How to tell? Just one instance with a really tough, tough song - Many have tried to sing our national anthem. Many failed miserably when seen by millions performing it. To date, no one has demonstrated the vocal dexterity and vocal strength to be the best, except her. To sports fans, she goes down in sports history as the supreme vocalist.

Is there a better voice than Miss Whitney’s? Not in my book. George Benson’s version is an excellent version in it’s own right, and I really like how he does this too, but no one else can keep up with WH. She made this song her own. Too bad that she was never able to love herself enough to be able to withstand those temptations that took her too soon. I hope and pray that she was able to find peace for her soul. RIP Miss Whitney Houston.

I always thought this was her own original track not that Whitney had to wright it but I always thought it was recorded by her and no one else until that point. Kind of funny it's George Benson's song because his biggest most famous song is "Broadway" in maybe 1978 which was like an old Motown song from the early 60's or prior believe.

My boy Clay Culver with the clip provided. I highly recommend subscribing him if you ever want to hear forgotten songs of the 70s 80s and 90s and with high quality! Far as this song, Whitney Houston's version is 100 times better than George Benson's (sorry George) This was taken off of her debut album but I believe 'Saving All My Love For You' is a better song from this album. 'You Give Good Love' and the dance hit 'How will I know" should be mentioned too. But if you want to hear some 'good sax' 'Saving All my Love for you' is a great song from her debut album.
Her performance singing the National Anthem at Super Bowl XXV is still my favorite rendition to date IMO and still gives me goose bumps whenever I hear and see it. It was during the Gulf War and the NFL were in talks canceling the Super Bowl that year, but it went on. Whitney Houston gave a memorable performance that is still shown to this day whenever Super Bowl time comes around.

All you can say is, how sad. She had such a beautiful and powerful voice but unfortunately she didn't have the internal strength to live up to the message of the song. Unfortunately she didn't have the strengthto avoid falling under the influence of Bobby Brown who led her down the path of drug addiction and ultimately to her untimely death. It's a shame that he's never been held fully to account for his role in her death.

It's really good but her live performances of that song killed the studio version. BTW I prefer Whitney's version

Her passing is a damn shame, and quite likely would never have happened so soon if she hadn’t married that dirtbag Bobby Brown. He got her into drugs and it all went downhill from there….😡
