I too saw him in November in New Orleans at Harah's Casino. Had front row seats but all the way to the right. I was glad he did Summers Of My Life. I was also there at the first show at the municipal auditorium in NO. Since that first show I have seen him in concert 16 times. Still love whatever he puts out and always has excellant musicians with him....can't go wrong. Thanks for the war suite posts Mary, it has been a while since I have listened to it. Once a die hard Gino fan, always one.
I admire the man for doing it his way...He pulled out of the scene when it no longer went his way...A great music creator...and on my top ten list of people I`d like to meet before I soar to the clouds...a brother in my heart...Thank you Gino!
You sir are so spot on. I have been a fan since the very beginning. First saw Gino at The Warehouse in New Orleans...it was a free concert, he was promoting the Crazy Life release...it was terrific. Have seen all his New Orleans shows since, 8 shows in all, 78, 80, 84' , House or Bules (have to check the ticket stub for date), 06', 07', and the last. Never can get enough of this artist
Gino at his very best. This is from my favorite album. The words at the end of this war-epic, singing to God: "Take back the world, you've granted the fools". This is so true.
On only the second line I continued reading 2166's post through tear-filled eyes. As a young man I discovered Gino and his brothers Joe and Ross. A senior in a Texas High School 1976 - there wasn't then, or now, an artist to compare to his heart poured out non-repeating thought prevoking lyrics. Houston concert 1978 - was the same age as Gino, my early 20's. What a talent this young man is. Simply electric on stage, as if for only the second time. Gino's wonderful work is absolutly TIMELESS.
I was in Detroit and went to purchase seats and one of his crew came out and ask me if I like Gino and I said. " I love Gino". He said, "wrong answer" I then said, "oh he's so so" he laugh let me go in, sit 5 rows from the front to watch Gino pratice!!! After about ten minutes he came and got me and told I had to go. I thanked him and went. Later on that evening I went to the concert and had the worst seats. It didn't matter to me cause I had the best seat earlier that day
Gino is still the man! Loved his first six albums...catching up now. Hey Gino! Come to St. Louis..all of your Italian fans and the rest of us need your REAL MUSIC here!
If I waited for him to come play in my hometown, I would probably never have seen him. My 33rd concert is on Friday 2/27/15 in Palm Desert, Ca and the 34th is on Saturday 2/28/15 in LA. Then it is off to Montreal in April for 2 shows. As a fellow fan my suggestion is that you take the time to go see him, it will be something you will never forget...;)
Other than Stevie Wonder I have never seen a live concert like Gino Vanelli has. The man is a genius. He let me know years ago that if you are a true artist you can sound just like you cds and he really does when hes performing live. I'm am 64 years old and have been a fan for over 40 years. Young artist can't touch him. They need to recognize
I love Gino's music since over the 30 years & it still sounds so fresh to me every time I hear one of those many awesome renditions of any of his material - it's outstanding !!! That powerful, versatile voice coupled with those meaningful lyrics touches my soul & heart every time, over & over again !!
I can remember being on tour with MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice, Cameo, Isaac Hayes. Kenny Gorelick (G) and many others, & in my suite listening loud to Gino and Joes music, I literally have all of the great original albums and I cherish them all. As a African American, on tour with rap artists, it was a shock to them to hear me listening to Gino and Joe. I have taught many people the modes of the music of Gino and Joe, cats who sold up to 10 million units in records. I have converted many 2 Gino
magnificent...over powering....a symphony of everthing that is musical....he is a true talent....ask anyone in the music biz....I lost count of the number of times I have seen him..A true gentleman and what a great canadian......
I think the best performance of all on one particular song, which is hard to choose, because it was all so awesome, was "WHERE AM I GOING". Man, what a great song and performance, it is still in my mind from 34 yr's ago. They were all great,
Thank you so much for these. What a talented mix of syncopation, resolving harmonies across the whole range and that rich voice to carry the melody right through. How can this guy not be lauded in the same breath as Sting, McCartney and Wilson I don't understand.
I try to listen to all his CD's every year on his bday - which is today, 6-16-09 Tuesday! Of course listen to him year round too. Just found out about his new CD. Will watch his 2 DVD's too! What a great voice! 36 years worth of CD's to play!
These early albums of his were stupidly great. It's as if they weren't encumbered by anything but just trying to make the best music they could, hell or high water. It's so inspired. Still makes pastes today's artists face to the wall
I was listening to Evanescene's "Fallen" today; and it occured to me that I relate to them so well because of "Gist of the Gemini". WOW. What a revelation- would never happen in a million years; but, Amy Lee singing Gist , and Gino singing My Immortal. Best yet, the two singing together! Many similarities....loud, rock, from a dark and thoughtful mindset.
MY GOD, GINO IS A "SPIT IMAGE" OF HIS FATHER. GOD BE WITH THE don VANELLI, 4THE GIFT GOD ABOVE ENTRUSTED HIM WITH, HIS SON N ? DAUGHTER, "WELL DONE MY GOOD N FAITHFUL SERVANT".
Once a Gino Vannelli Lover - forever coming back to his FABULOUS Music !!! This man & his brothers are truly gifted musicians, always inspiring in every way.
If with his album "Storm at Sunup" he had lured me, with "The Gist of the Gmini" album he got me forever and ever! What a concept! Thoroughly progressive! It is one of his opus I love the most! Most grateful, Mary!
God...the war suite!! Best Album side ever made...I listened to that album side for yrs...now I'm listening to it again and realizing why. What happened to music?
BOUGHT THIS ALBUM 15 YEARS BACK....DIDN;T KNOW WHAT A KNOCK OUT GROUP OF SONGS THEY PUT DOWN.>! LISTEN IN THE MORNIN WITH A CUP OF COFFEE..! THEN TAKE THE DAY FULL SPEED ON THAT FEELIN....>!
I have been a Gino Vannelli fan since I was 11. Oh my God I remember when the radio station in Chicago I believe it was bmx played non stop Gino Vannelli songs and me and my sister were screaming into our pillows lmao. My aunt thought we had lost our minds. I also had a big Gino Vannelli poster taped on my ceiling above my bed, and it fell off in the middle of the night, scared me senseless. But I love me still some Gino!!!!
I'm 58, I saw Gino in his younger years in Montreal. I'm still the hugest fan of the best Canadian talent we have ever had! LOVE LOVE LOVE this man!!!! I hope all the next generations get to know his REAL music!
My brother was moving his furniture in a show room in LA with a friend of Gino's that plays drums and Gino Was there to meet my brothers friend at the show room and My Brother said Gino helped my brother move a chair and table my brother said what a regular guy and humble and very real we laugh about that because how astounded we are of his amazing talent
A primeira música de Gino que ouvi,em dezembro de 1976,foi summers of my life e,desde então fiquei seu fã.Ele é simplesmente fabuloso! A vc mary obrigado por postar.
legnets1, From the first concert at the Municpal Auditorium in New Orleans, which was so powerful, and the first show of that tour, that word got out all over the world at what had transpired at that show. It really was that magical, so that even Gino has not forgotten the magic of that night. I still desire to this day to see him do a full band show of his first few albums and hits from the others, especially his ballad stuff, and recapture that magic again as the beginning.
Gino - Man! I have every cd from Crazy Life to his present. This guy gets plenty of play wherever I am at. Amazing singer and songwriter, nothing less then genius.
Gino was my very first concert in Austin Texas in early 77. I still remember thinking this man doesn't need a microphone!! He was so powerful as a singer and the band was incredible! My three favorite artists are Gino, Todd rundgren, and Tori Amos. No one was more powerful on stage than Gino!!
Yes they do, and these comments put a big smile on my face, it is so wonderful to hear that others appreciate him as much as I do ! I am looking forward to his 3 shows next month at the Seneca Niagara Casino ! Bringing my daughter again to his shows !!
Nothing better in the world than Gino and his musical art!!! And oooeeeeeau, that band!! Thanks for uploading this interesting combination of all the years. He's still going strong; never lost that smooth voice, even at 65 years old!!
+Carine De backer ...me too...I do not get tire of his music...I am making the new generation...love him and it works...my son is a musician and he always mentions how incredible Gino is...
I first saw Gino in concert in Pittsburgh around the time that "Gist of the Gemini" was released. Nearly 40 years later, it still is my favorite Gino album. I listened to it again last night & thought how timeless are the sentiments expressed in "The War Suite." The musicianship is wonderful...
Absolutely freakin, brilliant!! I have been a fan for more than half of my adult life...when I first saw him perform on soul train in the early '70s. I was a freshman in high school. The lyrics to all of his songs are exquisite. They have informed much of my life. Thank you for this compilation. Be Magnificent.
@inhisservice13 Thanks for sharing your story, I loved it...I just saw Gino in concert ove the weekend for 2 nights at the Bear's Den at the Seneca Falls Casino in Niagara Falls, NY and am still on my "Vannelli High", and will be for quite a while....He was awesome as usual.....;)
I can't even express myself; a male cousin introduced me to G. Vannelli' s music when I was about 19 or 20. I've yet to see his concert in person, but I'm not giving up hope !!💖
Thank you for commenting on his birthday, most of his fans celebrate it also and watch the dvd's and cd's....Happy 57th birthday Gino!!!! I hope you and your beautiful wife Tricia have a wonderful day!!!.....Also Happy Birthday to my son Michael who shares his birthday with Gino!!!!! He is 25 today......
Ms. Mary I'm 42 yrs young just really getting into Gino. He's the same age is my father born in the same week and year . This is a special treat for me post more please of his older stuff.
I am SOOOO GLAD that you are going!!!!!! Two of my friends are also going to be there, I wish I could afford to go to both....Yep, we can never get enough of him, that's for sure.....That's cool that your son is going with you....As Gino says "it's a beautiful thing"!!!!!!
This music is special. Beyond Mr. Vannelli's powerful voice, the synthesizer work done on these releases is ahead of its time. I love music that never grows old. This doesn't. I own nearly all of the releases, but it is good to see that others like to hear it here too. Thanks for the post!
I have loved these songs since the album was released.....You are right, Gino really put his heart and soul into these songs. Thank you so much for the comment. I love to hear people make comments appreciating his music....
@Telstar2Nite So did I telstar, same with storm at sunup....I am so glad you were able to meet him, I have had the pleasure of meeting him too, it is quite an experience to be able to do that and to especially at least listen to one sound check in your life.It is nice to hear from other dedicated fans, I thank you for your comment...In the last 2 years I have become friends with many fans from all over the world and we also meet up for concerts ....Some of the best times in my life..
Yep, it sure does go way back....32 years to be exact!!! I am happy they have stuck with him too. I am happy to meet another fan that feels the same way. Thank you for your comments, I appreciate it.
Yes it is !!!! He is my all time favorite musician......;) I am going to 3 of his shows in October at the Seneca Casino in Niagara Falls, NY, I have front row seats for 2 of the shows and I am really excited...Too bad you missed the Gino cruise last December, it was awesome......Thanks for your comment, it is great to see wonderful comments about him...;)
Mary, I am loving your posts. Went to Niagara Falls show after not seeing Gino for many years..... Learned about the Oasis of the Seas cruise from Paul & Loretta. So amazing to meet Gino's family & other fans. How about that quilt we all signed? Since then I've seen him more than 5 times on East Coast! He came to Valley Forge, PA. Performed on same stage as my dance recitals. OMG. Another dream come true. Before Covid, I went to Iridium in NYC - Oct 2019. When it's safe to travel, one of Gino's concert's (Clearwater, FL) is on the top of my list. Where are you from?
I pre ordered the cd too from a website in Denmark, I love all of Gino's music too. I am glad you enjoyed the video. I can't wait to see Gino in Las Vegas in September at the Hilton...Take care....
@spowell2166 I agree with everything you have said, I have analyzed all of his lyrics too for many years, and yes they are very deep and heartfelt. All of this makes him so very special and that is why we fans are so loyal, he has stayed true to himself and never sold out to the record companies...He is still recording and performing and yes that is a gift to us all...;)
@SouthernFryd Thanks for your comment, it is one of the best ever made and I love it now just as much if not more than I did back in 1976.....I was at 2 of his shows last weekend, and he played "Summers Of My Life".....AWESOME, AWESOME,AWESOME !!!!
Karen, are you going to the concert in New Orleans? Two of my friends are going. I am going to the Las Vegas concert and I can't wait !!!!! Front row seats again, a dream come true....I hope you can see him in New Orleans....
"I MARRIED A ITALIAN WOMAN FROM SYRACUSA(?), ITALY, N AS A "RE-MIX ENGINEER N MY EARLY YEARS, JOE, Lil ROSS AND GINO... I HAVE AND STILL AM, STUDYING EACH N EVERY BAR, CHORD,WORD, ET., AL, OF THEIR MUSIC(Joe) WITH THE LYRIC(Gino) AND THE RHYTHM(Ross) [not necessarily in that order with all respect to contrib artists]. IT TRULY IS SERIOUS, NO DRESS REHEARSAL...REAL LIFE.
I really wish though that he would put out the advertisement ahead of time, that he is going to do a full band show with his brother Joe back on keys and as always Ross as the musician making sure it gets the proper mix to the audience. I think there would be enough money to produce a big show like that if people knew what to expect before they bought tickets. You listening, Gino?
I too saw him in November in New Orleans at Harah's Casino. Had front row seats but all the way to the right. I was glad he did Summers Of My Life. Most grateful, Mary!

back when italians could sing. Gino is a legend man.

Fantastic. Gino is a talent of his own league. That was so complicated yet so simple. His music is underrated, he should have been much more famous.
Incredible, fabulous, stark raving beautiful. All the comments have great meaning. I love it that he is a part of my life.
Yes they do, and these comments put a big smile on my face, it is so wonderful to hear that others appreciate him as much as I do ! I am looking forward to his 3 shows next month at the Seneca Niagara Casino ! Bringing my daughter again to his shows !!

I find it absolutely amazing just how much the lyrics of "To the War" fit the current Political scenereo right here in the USA.
Just amazing.!!!

@mary71257 I read in your other reaction that he did 'Summers of my Life' there. Think I would cry my eyes out hearing him do that. It's so sensible.
Una de las canciones que me hizo amar a este super musico sin duda, yo era un niño.
Yep, it sure does go way back....32 years to be exact!!! I am happy they have stuck with him too. I am happy to meet another fan that feels the same way. Thank you for your comments, I appreciate it.

I pre ordered the cd too from a website in Denmark, I love all of Gino's music too. I am glad you enjoyed the video. I can't wait to see Gino in Las Vegas in September at the Hilton...Take care....
Yep, and he still is!!!!!!
Gino is such a beautiful intense musician~~~has anyone any idea how he is now?
@spowell2166 I agree with everything you have said, I have analyzed all of his lyrics too for many years, and yes they are very deep and heartfelt. All of this makes him so very special and that is why we fans are so loyal, he has stayed true to himself and never sold out to the record companies...He is still recording and performing and yes that is a gift to us all...;)
Thank you for your comment, glad you enjoyed it!!!
@SouthernFryd
Thanks for your comment, it is one of the best ever made and I love it now just as much if not more than I did back in 1976.....I was at 2 of his shows last weekend, and he played "Summers Of My Life".....AWESOME, AWESOME,AWESOME !!!!
Thanks for your comment......He hits my heart and soul too every time I listen to his music, and I listen to him every day......
Karen, are you going to the concert in New Orleans? Two of my friends are going. I am going to the Las Vegas concert and I can't wait !!!!! Front row seats again, a dream come true....I hope you can see him in New Orleans....
New Fan It Is I"
nice one kpizzle
4.11, el mejor coro que oí en mi vida
Let's not forget Gino's brother Joe, who plays a huge role in the "Gino Sound".
You listening, Gino?
gino superhero
He will be in New Orleans for a concert next month.....Also he will be at the Las Vegas Hilton...
