    Brother Elijah, your comment about living from one gratification to another really hits hard! That defenitely shed some light in the darkness.
    Also the analogy that you made about the incense and coal was beautiful!
    I've haven't fasted too much but man this is literally like a secret "weapon" in our faith. Creating space for God and lifting up our prayers.

      It's pretty good. Though the wellness lady had me suspicious at first that this would be focused on health benefits, this was primarily about fasting for others - either intercessory for another person, or fasting for the Lord directly.

In this series I’m narrating events and miracles from the splendid life of Don Bosco. St John Bosco used to perform a miracle almost every day, through the intercession of Mary Help of Christians. From the lives of saints we can learn how to love God more and draw closer to him. Thank you

    Father Mike actually put out a video on fasting as well. 4 reasons to do it. One reason he gave really got to me: self mastery. That really helped me deal with some issues I have with addictions. Fasting helps you to learn to say no to your urges, desires, indulgences, to stand your ground and become your own master with Christ.

    God is so good, that when you try to offer him him this sacrifice, it immidiately becomes something good for you.
    But so many people are doing keto, that fasting is not much of a sacrifice anymore.
    Best wishes!

    • @rehfam8
      @rehfam8 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Isn't God SO GOOD that he gives us immediately, "something good for you" too?! He's not asking us to do somthing just for Him with no benefit to ourselves because He loves us SO much!
      Fasting is ALWAYS a sacrifice, even when we do it for health reasons. Doing keto is a sacrifice which requires us to fast from foods that are addictive and damaging to our bodies and yet, we still so frequently choose to eat them because they are easily accessible and taste good. Going beyond that, to fast from food entirely, not only gives us physical and spiritual benefit, but our sacrifice can bless others in a way that nothing else can. Thanks be to God!

    Before we went on our mission trip I encouraged my students and chaperones to fast for two weeks. The kind of fasting Like we would fast from something for Lent, like a penance-a sacrifice for a fruitful trip. I also encourage people who are struggling with a decision to pray and fast. It really clears your mind and helps that decision come easier. And like was mentioned. It is not something that is easy or happens overnight. The benefits are long term-Jesus lives to see us sacrifice for the good-whether that be our own good or good for others. 👍🙏🙏. I try to fast before trips, retreats and camps where I am a leader. Again the benefit is for me and for others whom I love. Thanks for this great video!!

    This is a good video about fasting.
    When one fasts for pure reasons, they then obtain the true result of fasting.
    Nevertheless, one who fasts with a pure heart is already saved from any poison even when they do not fast.
    Thus these are the ones that can truly fast for anytime.

    I definitely appreciate the importance of fasting, however I am in recovery for a restrictive eating disorder. It's really important for me to follow my hunger cues and listen to my body when it needs fuel. I'd like to think one day I'll be strong enough in my recovery that fasting from food for spiritual reasons will not cause a (re)lapse.

    Thank you brothers on your insights on fasting , Here’s what our High Priest The Lord says and thinks of us regards fasting in Luke 18 v 9 to 14
    The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector
    9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people-robbers, evildoers, adulterers-or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’
    13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’
    14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

    • @lishmahlishmah
      @lishmahlishmah 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great parable, but it is not centered on fasting in its own internal meaning.
      Our Lord Jesus spoke directly about fasting in Matthew 6 from v16 to verse 18.
      _"And when you fast, do not choose to become gloomy, like the hypocrites. For they alter their faces, so that their fasting may be apparent to men. Amen I say to you, that they have received their reward. But as for you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that your fasting will not be apparent to men, but to your Father, who is in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you"_
      And also in Matthew 17, 18-21 when Jesus healed a boy
      (KJV, King James Version)
      _"And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
      Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
      And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
      Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting"_
      King James Version (KJV)

      @andrewdrew677 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      lishmah lishmah thank you for your reply , and the verses you set out for me to read .
      The reason for my comment and presenting the parable was not done to undermine or make a statement that fasting is a religious exercise and before the Father meaningless , but rather to present in such a manner to all who wish to draw near to God can only do so through our Hiigh Priest and not through works of the flesh as the parable reveals.Galations 2 v 21
      I do not set aside the grace of God. For if righteousness comes through the Law, Christ died for nothing.”
      Hebrews 10:1
      For the law is only a shadow of the good things to come, not the realities themselves. It can never, by the same sacrifices offered year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship.
      Hebrews 10 v 14
      For by one offering he hath perfected forever them that are sanctified.

      @@andrewdrew677 .
      *Well said*. All comes from the Grace.
      As I wrote before, somewhere in this comment section, Catholic Fasting is a tool. It is NOT an end in itself.
      Fasting can help us to enter in communion with Our Lord, and to join our personal works to the only unique Sacrifice of Christ, the only one valid sacrifice.
      Thank you.

      @@aprilramos6512 Short answer is that I would say continue in prayer and telling your feelings to God. Don’t stop bugging Him and also speak to a local Parish Priest.
      Long Answer:
      I am sort of in the same boat as you. I realized for me personally, for the health of my soul, I need to be surrounded by friends that are pretty much like family. I suffered for long periods of time (years) because of not just loneliness but just lack of community and not having a place where you feel like you belong. So I started to pray in earnest to God recently where I would have conversations with a person. I pretty much told God what was on my heart and told Him that I really hurt and I feel that I would be a healthier person and better able to follow His will if I had more community/close friends. I also had a lot of people praying for me …not for me being able to get friends, but for healing from a prior broken relationship which had really ravaged my spiritual and mental health.
      So the result of God’s grace and our prayers was that I was actually able to meet this wonderful family at a prayer meeting who are very involved in Catholic Youth programs and I am happy to say I have been meeting one beautiful person after another.
      And accompanying the prayer I would suggest strongly to you to not give up. As your schedule allows try to get involved in various Church or Youth events other than the one you are in currently. If you increase your chances of meeting people you are more likely to run into a friend/family that you click with.
      Through prayer, conversation with God, understanding the various truths of life and how it applies to mine I notice that my anxiety and fear subside. And that I am able to sense more humility and love in my heart. But I have also noticed that when I come out of conversation with God, fears and pride issues creep into me. Don’t give up beloved! God loves you deeply and knows you personally.

      Karol Jurkowski if your motivation has changed, you do it out of that new motivation. You can pray for clarity, if needed. Maybe journal about your new motivation? you can do the exact same thing as before, but if it is done with a completely new intent, you're doing a completely new thing. Peace and blessings!

    • @lishmahlishmah
      @lishmahlishmah 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Karol. Catholic way of fasting says, "Prayer, Charity and Fasting". Fasting has a true spiritual meaning if is connected with Prayer and Charity. (you can google for this 2 topics connected with Fasting).
      Moreover, it could be useful if you'll add another little non-dietary fasting. For example, you could refrain from too much internet or from other toxic habits. One should look at a deep communion with Jesus.
      As a matter of fact, christian fasting is never an end. It is just a mean, a tool.

      Pure fasting is more uncommon. The fasting of monks and nuns in contemplative monasteries and convents consists of a bread and water fast; not a pure fast. Pure fasting is to be done after speaking with a spiritual director for the good of your soul for union with Our Lord Jesus Christ, anything else is done for self-love and is no good. God loves obedience more than mortification.

      I'm not a health guy (or even someone who's big into fasting) but it sounds like the problem is not the mental capacity while fasting, but the need for caffeine. Do you usually drink coffee every day? If so, fasting will be twice as hard if you're trying no food and no caffeine. I would suggest focusing on weaning your body off of caffeine as well as your fasting.

      if you fast from sunrise to sunset then go to the gym 1h before sunset so you be ready to eat,and fasting one day is healthy but won't make much difference tbh ,you have to fast at least 5days in row wwhile going to the gy,you'll get a such discipline.

      @@775.- . For us Catholics, "fasting for one day" usually doesn't mean that we can eat a big meal after sunset.
      So, for example, when we fast for a week o for a month it means that we are eating just a light small (and poor) meal during the entire day (24hrs). Or, we can fast with some smoothie drinks of vegetables or fruits.
      Or, we fast by drinking *only water* for 24hrs, but in this case we can't go beyond 1 day fasting... because otherwise we couldn't go at work.

    My brother fasts 18 hours and eats only 6.. this seems extreme to me. Can you suggest fasting on a smaller scale? Like fasting from something specific like sweets? Can you explain how to do it? And how to include praying with it?

      Your brother is just intermittent fasting. It seems hard but once you start it becomes much easier. I do this fairly regularly. I'm also one who struggles mightily with overeating and binge eating.

From the lives of saints we can learn how to love God more and draw closer to him. Thank you

    🤔!!!I have a video idea!!!!🤔I want to hear big Mike explain the bible itself please. the history, how many times has it been rewritten, should people today be weary of false messages as far as complet chapters not actually being part of the bible ect. King James himself, who was he? What kind of man? Maybe touch on ancient scrolls and lost text if possible.👇👇👇
    God has got me very hyped up right now, I was led astray but with my friends and this large group I'm a part of on the web.... they all share the love so completely, it's very transparent and beautiful. Giving time and energy to the weak and actively removing barriers, giving new strength. It has once again relit a fire of pure joy and love for everything. I'm just humbled and grateful. I honestly was not 100 because of my fellow man, now God has given me a place where I can surround myself with positivity and really live for one another. GET UP AND GO LOVE, GET UNCONVENTIONAL AND EXTEND YOUR HAND TO THE WEAK, ASK GOD TO FULFILL OUR HEARTS WITH HIS GLORY AND HE WILL DO SO.

    Great video, but understand that the # 40 in the time of Christ was used to mean many, not 40 calendar days as we understand it today i.e. Ali baba and his 40 thieves he had hundreds of thieves working for him

      @lishmahlishmah 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes and No. I mean, yes for the "40 symbol", that's ok.
      But in the past the jewish rabbis, the friars, monks, the priests and even lay people were able to fast for 40 days and over. Someone fasted completely (except drinking water) for many weeks or months. Someone else fasted all time for the entire life by eating a very small amount of food once a day (for example a very small piece of bread with some little boiled vegetables... and sometimes a few walnuts on special days).

      Yes, going over 30/40 days the problem is how you said.
      It was a form of ascetism, and they did a deep spiritual and mental preparation before their long fastings. Many jewish sages and rabbis as well as many christian monks and friars offered their sufferings in order to be in deep communion with God and with the sufferings of Jesus (in the case of christian monks). The deep communion with the Lord opens to a deeper and more powerful prayer in favor of all mankind.
      And yes, sometimes their lives were "shortened" by these extreme fastings. And sometimes they reached 100 years of age... I think it depends on different personal body/physiology.
      (Anyhow, if it is masochism it is not a christian fasting. True Christian catholic ascetism is not a mental illness).
      Besides, we must remember that for catholic doctrine the first and greatest "offering" is accepting the "natural" daily personal (moral and phisical) pains occuring in our life.
      Other "additional pains" (such as fasting) are also very powerful, and very useful for personal self-education and good spirituality, but they are "the 2nd way"...
