What I love about Christian Rock, especially by bands such as Skillet, Thousand Foot Krunch, and this one, is that the songs can be enjoyed by both Christians and non-Christians alike. The songs hold different meanings for everyone, although, from a Christian perspective, they can be quite deep. (My interpretation of this song holds about how lonely a true Christian's life can be, considering the internal changes that takes place when one becomes 'born again', making them feel and act differently from everyone around them.) In my opinion, Christian Rock is deeper than a LOT of the stuff being played on contemporary Christian radio right now.
I found this song about two years ago and somehow I never quite knew how to interpret it. It being about 'being born again' is eye-opening. That would mean the singer is addressing the devil in the chorus right?

I interpret it definitely from the perspective of someone newly born again, struggling with the new challenges of still living in a sinful world, around sinners, while taking on the growing pains of becoming more Christlike. So I think the singer is telling Jesus that he’ll continue his journey despite the pain of separation he might have from those he used to identify as, but can no longer be like anymore because he is a new creation. And again, this is my own interpretation. Hope this helps!

Music is an awesome thing. It is the ultimate freedom. Teacher's in school may critique you for art and fill you with unnecessary nonsense from books regarding symbolism and other rubbish. But music is freedom. It allows for you to find your own message, establish your own reality for it. There are countless songs, and each of them have their own story and theme behind it, and even if the artist chooses that end for himself, invariably it is up to us, the fans, to determine what the lyrics mean to us. And from that we can draw whatever conclusion, whatever reality we want. A christian can draw whatever divine inspiration he wants from songs. Even if the artist isn't christian. The same is also true for the atheist, he can equally take from a song and identify with it how he may, even if the artist was a christian. Anyways. That's how I feel music is......
You know, it's okay. Whether you believe in God or not, it's fine. Even if this is confirmed to be christian rock, I think the band wouldn't mind atheist fans. As long as your song triggers emotions in someone, you have done something right. If this song is the song someone loves to sing in the shower, it doesn't matter if they believe or not. People snapping on atheists should keep this in mind, as well as people snapping on believers expressing their faith. We're free to believe what we want to believe. Songs are available to everyone. Let's just enjoy the music, folks :)

Here is my interpretation of this song. Depression: "even if you try to take me on," I'll still cower in the depression "I'll stand the lonely, stand the lonely" throw away the empty heart-what once was, the heart full of joy shattered, broken into a million pieces.
