Some of you have noticed that Speed's voice sounds different - more normal paced here then in the rest of the show. There's a reason for that. The actor (Peter Fernandez) in this scene did not have to worry about syncing his voice to a set of mouth movements on-screen. This is total off-screen exposition. So he can afford to talk more normally.
That and this clip isn't sped up like some other recordings! (That's a product of the '90s rerelease of the series - they changed lots of the episodes' *speed* for some reason which made his voice pitch a little higher.) I honestly can't decide which voice quality I like more though! :0
Honestly though this shows he and the rest had so much potential to make the dub sound so much better, and the acting for this clip was great, but unfortunately though because this was the 60’s and they had to rush everything and we’re on a tight schedule, it came out the way it was. XD Imagine it though, if they could of spent more time on it without having to rush, I would of loved for the whole thing to be like this! :)

The parody is in the very existence of these buttons on what was obviously supposed to be a RACING CAR. WHY does it have CUTTERS!? Or spy pigeon? Ability to climb cliffs? Or the SUBMARINE MODE? Are they racing in some sort of battle royale, Mad Max style or something?

It's located behind the gear shift, under a hatch in the console between the seats, along with a mini-joystick that controls the homing robot. Pressing that button sends the robot to Speed's home. If they haven't taken it down yet, you can probably find it on Hulu.
Speed Racer was a great cartoon show about family and one the most extraordinary car ever designed. If I had a showroom of cars this would be one of them. Classic show and I enjoyed watching it in my earlier years.
Speed used the "A" button more for making jumps than he did for repairs. The "E" button was probably the one he used the least...I can only remember one episode that featured it.
I recall one episode where they are working on the car in the garage and it’s up on the jacks. I thought, “Oh, that’s what those are actually meant to be used for.”, and then never saw them used that way again. I agree with you on the funky headlights. Only seen them used once.
I remember an episode where some bad guys thought Speed was a secret agent because he has a special race car with gagets, well that car does make him look like a secret agent.

There was at least one villain that Speed chased down that wasn't a racer. Mr. Trotter rode a horse! See "The Car Hater" episodes - Trotter hated cars because he lost a loved one to a car crash. Trotter also got thugs to sabotage cars all over a city, probably Tokyo, causing numerous car crashes.
In fact, the whole conceit that voice-over artists in America had to sync to the mouth movements on-screen is ironic. The Japanese hardly ever cared about syncing mouth movements! Particularly in a TV anime when they were pressed for time to get the episode "in the can" for the week. Watch any raw or subbed anime from the 70s through the 90s. No lip sync! The artificial forced, fast-talking, run-on sentence dialogue of the American Speed Racer is entirely due to this self-imposed limitation!

Control I activates special photocells on the Mach 5 that bend light around it, rendering it invisible to the naked eye. Control J creates an electric field around the Mach 5, making it invisible to radar and infrared imaging equipment. Control K fires a series of depleted uranium bolts at 1/3 the speed of sound. Control L release dozens of anti vehicle mines from the back of the Mach 5 incase I'm being chased! Control M turns on a 15 gigawatt magnet in the hood of the Mach 5 for slowing down other racers Control N fires a canister filled with a deadly gas for if I need to assassinate a world leader. Control O Allows me to temporarily take over other racers vehicles. Control P Disguises the Mach 5 as any other car in the world. Control Q Activates the Mach 5's enhanced interrogation system. Control R is for the long range radar system, it can detect other racers up to 600 miles away Control S deploys a small turret armed with ground to air missiles. Control T Releases a special mixture of fuel into the Mach 5's engine, providing more speed. Control U turns on diamond-carbide drill for tunneling into the ground. Control V Activates the RCS thrusters for driving in low gravity. Control W is the self washing feature, so the Mach 5 is always clean Control X Alerts me if Racer X is nearby Control Y Allows me to access my personal Email. Never understood why a racing car would have the need saws. The physics of such a device seems like a highly dangerous addition to both car and driver given the speed demands of a motor race. Also, why would a high performance racing car need an ant-bullet shield, are the courses lined with snipers...? Seems that these "add-ons" would have an over negative effect on the car's performance. No wonder 'Pops' Racer could not hold down a real job at an car maker or design team.
Speed Racer the movie sucked, leave to Hollywood to sell a picture for a generation who has never seen the freakin' show, and alienate all the people who watched it as kids many many years ago. If i had the money I would buy the rights and re-do it in the style of Bullit.

This car was likely the very first love of my life.

I never saw the entirety of Speed Racer as a kid, and, in the episodes I DID see, E was the only button I never saw him use.
