Recalling that they did extensive tests on wind tunnel and came to conclusion that the car didn't need big wing, and that the big wing would've added too much drag into this bodyshape. Yet, they did add one in the big update version in 2003, so I guess they were wrong originally.
@d-d-i The 2003 car has totally different front and side aero as well, which would affect it. However that car was a dog and never as competitive as the 01-03 car.
I don't think that the 03-05 focus was not competitive. I was in Sanremo 03 and that car was super fast on tarmac ,maybe more than 206 and xsara. The problem of 03-05 was a lack of a driver as Sainz as second instead of Duval or Kresta.
@@Sim_RealRally Sure but even still Ford never got it right again with the 2000cc regulations. The 06 and newer Focus was too big and only used a 5 speed sequential. A certain Frenchman made this era very frustrating
