I'm an old materials testing technician. Most of my days were taken up testing concrete, mortar and grout.
I can tell you this without a doubt, your cement-sand mixture was WAY too wet.
It's guaranteed to shrink and crack as there is more H2O than the cement needs to react with. Hence, the excess water will remain and as it migrates to the surfaces will leave voids and weakness throughout the material.
Hint: if you want a super plastic mix that can be poured and fill voids easily, use a "super plastisizer" ... They sell gallons of it for use in tile grout mixtures I think they call it grout admixture. It works on any cement based material. It's basically Elmers glue plus some ANTI surfactants ie; dish detergent.
Your design is great. You just didn't understand the weird science of cement.
It's really mind bending what chemistry has concocted to improve compressive strength longevity and eliminate shrinkage/cracking.

I don't think he can easily get a gallon of super plasticizer where he comes from. He should have put no concrete, end of story

When I read the title I thought you were going to pour cement and use the sink as a mold to make a dent for the fire pit to go. This was pretty smart considering you fashioned a mobile camping stove.

brilliant use of the sink. only improvement i would make is to make some aircrete to use on the burn chamber. it would insulate the stainless steel and make it way safer to operate.

Идея хорошая,но кастрюлю после каждой варки надо отмывать от копоти.У нас на этот счёт казаны. Жаль что я не могу показать свою печку.Кто то сделал из железной бочки когда строили нам катедж и она осталась у нас.Но бочка тоненькая и однажды когда я сготовила плов Ана согнулась и перевернула казан.Больше я на этой песке не готовила плов и рыбу жарила осторожно.В этом году посмотрев всякие поделки я решила усовершенствовать свою печ.Купила сетку для штукатурки и двойным слоем обмотала ее.Приготовила 2 ручки из толстой проволоки.Теперь облеплю печ цементом и облеплю мелкими камешками или битым кафелем,ещё не решила.Решетки я тоже на чердаке нашла.Когдато убирала туда.В быту все пригодится.Вот и пригодилось😊Печ водворе нам очень нужна.Рыбу жарим только водворе чтобы запаха в доме небыло,да и на плите так не пожарится.Плов ,дымляма и казан кебаб тоже любят когда их готовят в казане на очаге😊.Планируем в летней кухне специальных печничников пригласить,но когда это будет,а пока сама смастерю😊.

often its the rocks in concrete that explodes but the air pockets will cracks the concrete. After few heat cycles it will start to crumble.

Great idea, and a great design. Well done indeed. I might have preferred to have done this with the fire on the top and which allows the use of the space around the cooking area for perhaps smaller pots etc. With your present design, you are rather limited, however, no one can dispute the cost. :)

How do you all work with grinders without real foot protection? I beat you all would buy a good pair of the first that disc shatters and it penetrants your dam foot. Safety does not cost as much as a Doctor! Great reuse of a discarded sink!
