It would be so awesome to see you review the Citizen AQ6010-06A, 18K White Gold, Limited Edition 0100! The Holy Grail of Horology! +/- 1 second per year! 😲
You can put the strap inside a coffee cup to simulate the shape of a wrist and then pour in boiling water. Citizen rubber straps are very stiff. I had a strap on a Citizen Weekender break in half that was sent to me I had purchased at auction on-line. While the strap is on the watch, never fold one half of a Citizen rubber strap into the other for storage/transport as it puts stress on a very small area and may cause it to fracture as mine had.
Yeah! The plasticky Citizen straps are really stiff. Not great for comfort. The only sensible explanation that I can come up with for why Citizen uses them is truly legit abrasion resistance and overall extreme toughness. Maybe elemental/chemical resistance as well?
Here’s what MY wife says about your channel…”Please stop watching that hyper-active Brit. You end up buying a watch with every video you watch.” They always have a point, don’t they?
As a seiko owner I also got my first citizen couple weeks ago. The promaster diver 36.5mm in sky blue. I’m really impressed by the accuracy of the eco drive movement and the alignment of the minutes markers. Solid build all round. I’m astounded to say that it’s more accurate and robust than my seiko watch that cost 3 times as much. I think citizen are really on an upward trajectory in terms of their appeal.
@JackCampbell1999: I have 3 of the 44mm Eco-Drive Divers (a.k.a. "Eco-Dive"). Don't let 44mm scare you. It does not look or fit "big" when worn. They fit very nicely. 1) The straightforward black one (European model BN0150-10E) has the really hard stiff black plastic band. Not great, but not bad for comfort. Very easy on and off your wrist, and super-tuff. This is THE quintessential no-BS no-frills watch for actual diving/watersports. 2) The "Swamp Thing" green dial/black coated case (BN0157-11X) with green rubber/silicone band. This band is VERY comfortable; with just the right amount of stretch/give, but it's grippy nature makes for slightly difficult on, and frustratingly difficult off of wrist. It really looks even cooler in-person than the photos. 3) The glacier blue dial BN0165-55L on bracelet. Really nice unique color and the bracelet is very attractive and the quick-adjust is very cool. Unfortunately, the way they implement the quick-adjust clasp results in a weird gap in the clasp in any position other than fully tight that causes pinching/hotspots. Really unfortunate! The lume is exceptional on all of them! Far far better than on my 2024-manufactured Seiko Arnie, and about on par with the Steeldive SD1970. They all run fast by about 3-5 seconds per month. All the bezels align nearly perfectly. The second-hand-to-markers alignment is so-so. You've seen better, but that's obviously not the point of this watch. This is an incredible ISO 6425 solar workhorse that should last 20+ or 30+ years with no necessary service at all for around $200-ish! I love all 3 of mine, and no doubt you will love whichever one(s) you get!
@@JackCampbell1999 it’s such a superb watch. Honestly. From the build quality to the accuracy and general look. I would suggest you go to a watch shop and try it on the wrist. I saw it online and just bought it. Gut feeling that I would like it. And I love it at the moment.
As a diver this was the top dive watch to have back in the early nineties, mine lasted over 20 years, and hundreds of dives. Great back up to the dive computer.
My dad has the original Aqualand from 1986. It was the watch that got me into watches as a kid. I recently found it helping my dad move to his new house, replaced batteries, and still works. I did get a new silicone strap for it as the original one was all cracked.
I have worn a Citizen Nighthawk mostly as my daily for 15 years. It's dial is busy, really busy but I like the second time zone function. Of course I only use the second time zone in order to tell my wife it's after 5 PM somewhere when I'm opening a beer at noon. I needed to replace the capacitor (battery) and while I had the back off I gave it a double domed sapphire crystal. Looks nice.
Glad to have you join the house of Citizen. Some of the most capable and industrial style dive watches. Long time coming. Yeah, the watch name is "Meh"... but that product is good and delivers some of the best value, particularly from a mainstream brand.
@ Whoa whoa. Easy mate. I meant no disrespect. I just think overall, Citizen WRONGFULLY does not get the RIGHTFUL respect it deserves compared to Seiko. 😅
I always used to have Seiko watches in my 20s but now I have more Citizens in my collection. I cycle through different watches most days but the closest I have to a regular daily is a Citizen Promaster Fugu - I love that watch, it's so much better than my SKX for design, accuracy, and features. Congrats on getting into the Citizen camp @MWC, the Aqualand is a bold choice for sure but as Red Green said "If the womenfolk don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy!" =)
Bought my Aqualand in the 90’s as I was an active diver and it worked well with my Aladdin Pro dive computer! Changed battery two or three times and the strap twice! Still have it but would need another battery & I have other dive watches that are working fine so it just sits in the not working at the moment watch box! A great watch to own & unique looking for sure! Cheers mate!!
The strap does take a while to break in. You can speed the process up by placing the strap in boiling water. Or, there are plenty of 3rd party FKM and ultra soft silicone straps available on eBay or Amazon. This is my third Aqualand. I still have the original first gen one. I love them. I'm a big fan of the Pro master range. Great video as usual Russ.
Great video! This is my latest addition as well- and I absolutely love it. Yeah the strap is an issue but I really like the look of it so I'm trying to deal with it for now. Maybe I'll try the boiling water thing lol. Knowing you're love of history and military watches I'm surprised you didn't mention some of the heritage this thing has- Italian navy issued, as well as Danish special forces. Great recent video by Watches of Espionage on this one gets into it... Cheers!
How weird this video drops the day i got my first Seiko, bearing in mind i am a Citizen lover. I own 5 Citizen but recently went down the Seiko 5 rabbit hole. I ended up going for the Seiko 5 flieger Yuto Horigome special edition. Got my eye on an Alpanist next, i fall in love with about 5 watches a week!!! This is an expensive hobby 😊
Very Nice.. Glad you have finally found your Citizen!! I would go with a 24mm Orange ISOfrane strap.. Will compliment the retro vibe and highlight the minute hand.. I had one on an Ecozilla that I owned
Miniature millennium falcon landing pad 😂 Funnily enough my first ever citizen I bought a couple weeks ago. The millennium falcon jump to light speed dial eco drive. It’s an amazing watch and the millennium falcon silhouette is the date window. Epic!
I bought 36mm prodiver last year and I love it. Only negatives are the strap, which I took off as soon as new ones came in the mail and never looked at it again and the bezel grip. The size took a little getting used to but I really enjoy a smaller watch. Aqualand is certainly on my list to buy, especially that I would actually use its diving features.
I can't cheat on Seikos but this is a really cool no-nonsense diver! Great review man! P.S. A grin remained on my face after the laughs from the 'wife's quote'.....one day you'll need to make a video only with those watches 'liked' by the missus 🙂
I love your program but ... I love Citizen, especially if have busy dial , between 42mm and 45mm and many functions. I find them very interesting. That aqualand is awesome
Im a seiko fan to but if im being honest citizen's pro master is much better than the skx.

I absolutely love my Promaster BN0100-42E, it's like the perfect diving watch fory wrist. Originally wanted a Casio Marlin, but found this Citizen gem in a local store and I fell in love with it.
I'm a Citizen fanboy so I'm excited (oh, and I don't like busy dials😂😂). This is that dive watch from that French movie. It's not for me, but I'm glad to see Citizen get some love.
I also have amongst all the Swiss watches in my collection a King Seiko, Seiko and recently added a Fubu diver from citizen on impulse. So far keeps good time with the Miyota 9015 movement. I will say though the 120 click bezel does seem to easy knock forward when wearing which would be a concern if using for diving. But as a dive watch can’t fault if for value.
I own one and I love it. Personally I don’t dislike the strap, although I agree it could be better. I have 7 Citizen watches in my collection and they’re a very underrated brand in my genuine opinion. Great review. Russ.👍🏻
I absolutely love my Citizen Eco Drive H500 S049628 HST Chronograph with Brown Dial on a factory leather strap. It's a recent purchase for me and already one of my favorite watches!
Great, you did it! Welcome to citizen univers. This one IS an iconic one. Great choice, i dream of an upgrade in an eco drive solar one and sapphire glass With bgw9 and a backlight. It would be a fantastic historic hommage... 😂
Hey Seiko fan boy, early on in my watch collecting hobby, I purchased two different Seiko "Recraft" watch's (nice looking. but very hard to read dials). These both have 24mm straps and was able to easily find replacement straps. Yes, not nearly as many choices as in the 20-22mm range, but enough to find something that will work ..... keep on ticking
Amazing watch. I had the full lume/gun metal case version. Sadly mine had a "blind spot" on the dial with too few lume that didn't light up when charged and the exhange model's second hand didn't hit the markers which is just annoying to me on a quartz watch, especially when you know that it is possible. I totally want to try it in the future again as it's an awesome watch and a great ana-digi. The full lume version came on a newer and softer kinda matte rubber strap with a bigger buckle tho.
Thank you for this review, I'm the opposite of you, I don't have seiko watches, I like citizen and casio. I have my grandfather's citizen chronomaster auto day date, and since then I purchased other watches. My most recent one is the citizen promaster land 35th anniversary edition with the MIP display and green cordura band. I also have a blue angels edition promaster sky, and yes, the dial is busy on that one, with two little lcd displays added. Maybe I'm wrong but I think citizen released the first radio controlled wristwatch, and the first solar analog watch. And citizen is also making the most accurate light powered watch, caliber 0100, one second per year deviation, without any radio sync. So yes, I'm a fan.
World famous in Denmark as the 'Pingo'; the moniker given to our King (the crown prince at the time) when he qualified as a frogman wearing the Citizen (he now wears a Corps issued Seamaster).
Ripley would wear that from Alien. I’ve been looking at the promaster land, it looks like a budget version of TGV’s Breitling (love that as well) Good vid. 👍🏼
I have the Aqualand from the early 90s a true classic of the time, sported by Jean Reno in The Big Blue movie. its still going strong today and a very cool vibe.
Russell check out the rubber dive straps on the super titanium citizen, the model at the moment escapes me. I bought my son one recently and the strap is really comfortable feels like a rubber/ silicone so a lot more flexible .
AWESOME watch! I have an earlier C022 version from 1993 and JP2000 from 2017. Have also had a 1996 C022 that I bought new that died in 2019 after having it as my only watch, taking a beating for 23 years, not bad! Bought the 2017 used but as new 3 years ago for $160 and traded an aliexpress "Feiko 5" for the 1993 one last year. And yes, the guy knew it as I advertised it 100% as a"Feiko" 😁 I def scored there! I think I´ve bought 10 different 24mm zulu straps from Ali for the Aqualands... Just love them!
I got this watch from Jomashop about a week ago for about $350. I was worried it would be too big but also found it wears like it's a lot smaller. The classic Citizen NY0040 is my main daily watch and it wears about the same. The new Aqualands are Eco-Drive with no digital display and cost about twice as much as the old style. Get one while they last.
The Aqualand is pretty cool. Kudos for finally (pun ahead) getting your feet wet 😉 with Citizen! I am such a Citizen fanboy, I wouldn't even know where to begin with specific model suggestions for your next one. But given your love of Diver, Field, and Pilot watches though, it'd definitely be in the Promaster Sea, Land, or Air family(ies) though. You should check out one of their Satellite Wave GPS watches though. Even an old used one. That tech is truly a game-changer. Oh, and just a little correction: ISO doesn't actually certify ANY watches. They just make the guidelines. So, "Diver's" watches are ISO 6425 "compliant", not certified.
Citizen has released several successors that are Eco-Drive. However, those have done away with the digital display in favor of an additional GMT-style 4th hand that aligns with the depth markings along the rehaut. Quite different from this one. Do a search for "Citizen Aqualand" images and you'll find lots of styles and colors.
Interesting watch, though too chunky for me. Just got myself an Addiesdive MY-H2 Field/Flieger (yes, Chinese, sirry) in blue which with its Seiko NH-35A is just absolutely perfect in every way! (Well, changed the strap though). CHEERS! 🧡
I was reminded I nearly bought a Citizen diver over 20 years ago - Apeks used to do a nice ‘tool’ diver for that sort of money but no coaster on the side… IWC Aquatimer has one (sort of) but definitely not for a few hundred spondoolies. I do believe the Arnie has a 24mm lug, and much better straps too.
I am another Seiko-fanboy named Craig with one of these badboys too - found an official Citizen bracelet online after much digging and oh, boy - it is now perfect
if You like this one, You should try the BN2040-17X. its titanium so it looks like b. blasted strap is 22m so not that bad. better stock rubber strap. a bit fatty cos 17mm not 14(but diameter is smaller -diferent depth gauge position) and a bit bussy cos cof the reserve meter but ist an eco-drive. the looks is amazing. i use it for over a year and its great. I'm curious about your opinion.
Two suggestions: 1) more videos like this. 2) switch to decaf. 🤣 seriously, I like your channel. But, bro we’re not seeing this one the same. I’d call that one “hideous.” Different strokes, etc. oddly, my biggest complaint with Citizen is their boring dials/cases. This one is not boring enough. Oh, well. I’ll catch you later! I’m going to shop bauhaus for an antidote…. 🤣 all the best from Maine/USA
Barton makes a 24mm tropic. I have one on my kinetic Seiko GMT (speaking of giant watches). Try wrapping the band on a watch pillow for a couple of days and see if it breaks in a bit. I just got a Mudmaster from the master of G Gshock line and that strap took a little breaking in. Welcome to the Promaster club. Every quartz accepting watch lover needs at least one (kind of like Gshock). I say kind of because I have 5 Gshocks and one promaster.
If you have the chance to review the Citizen Promaster Eco-Drive BN0166-01L Unite with Blue, do it. She‘s a tool watch beauty and even my wife (who finds most of my watches, the Divers and the Casios in particular, ugly) likes it. The Aqualand is not really for me, but a great tool watch for sure.
I have a lot of citizen watches but I don’t think I could live with that depth gauge when I am on holiday and going out snorkelling I am being brave when I going out down 3ft my bulova Sea king will going out down to 300m but I put it on because it is very easy to see under water so I can tell when it is time to go back to the beach bar for another cocktail
I have to side with your wife on this one. This isn't a watch, this is a cry for help. You're surrounded by people who care for you and want to help you Russ. Let us walk with you through this difficult time. This watch has a face that's perfect for radio. I'm reminded of when parents post pictures of their (sorry) ugly baby but still think he/she is beautiful, and we have to nod politely in agreement and smile. I'm sure she has a nice personality though. ;)
Popularly called the «Pingo» in Scandinavia from when (now) King Fredrik wore it at the Danish Navy Diver Academy when he was a mere Crown Prince. Apparently something happened to his wetsuit that made it take in water, and as a consequence his walk in that dive suit looked like a penguin’s walk. Pingo is slang for «pingvin» which is Danish for penguin 👍 Very cool watch 👍
It looks good, but no synchronisation and no backlight on the digital part is a bit of a bummer. The Arnie does those things, still number one ana digi dive watch.
Nice dartboard 😅 Going to Japan next week. Been looking at Seiko and Citizen watches. I must say, Citizen have some nice watches. At least they don’t look like Rolex’s unlike some Seiko models 😅
Best idea, getting one of their Pro divers. It's their bread and butter. I love citizen's steep reholts, they're thicker watches, but it seems to really emphasize the dial, great when you're under water. I don't really care if mine is bulky out of the sea. Are you gonna track down a 24mm strap solution/alternative, cos you seriously aren't getting rid of this one are you?
I got my Promaster Diver from Argos. Red dial. Got to be the cheapest ISO certified diver on the market. Its not the same watch of course but same heritage. Strap wasn't comfortable either! Great watch though and good for a daily wear. I put most of my divers on leather straps as I'm not a frogman to trade!
My Citizen Promaster has stopped me buying so many seiko divers I didn’t need and couldn’t compare to it over the years. It’s single-handedly saved me a sizeable amount of money 😂 In fact, the only seiko I own nowadays is a Presage .
YEEEESSS. Promaster Aqualands are so good looking. Also the Nighthawks (for pilots). I lost a chance to buy a 20th Anniversary Aqualand and I haven't been the same since 🥲
I buy ALLOT of progress with 24mm out widths . I buy from Barton cause I can get it in that size plus extra long. Leather,ccaNvas,ruuber,synthetic....they carry just about everything. It's usually my one stop shop unless I need something special.
bro this watch really does the job for me, I'm also an enthusiast but just a poor level to have none of them,, can you do the honor by making the empty hand start with this citizen to your this follower ♥♥♥
Have a look at a newer AquaLand; the BJ2169, Eco-Drive. Aragon makes plenty of 24mm rubber straps. Not surprised by wife's reaction, the AqL is a tool. The 2169 is double the $$$ of the JP2007
You should look into the nb1050 series by citizen if you havent. Spiritual successor to thr sarb03x series. The nb1060 are really unqiue dial watches for the price as well. Citizen has some gems!
Thanks to Member Stu for advising me to give the strap a few dunks in boiling water!!! I’ll see how we get on!!!
The Aqualand is given to Norwegian military people who complete the equivalent of the SAS training course. The king of Denmark has one. 👍
Thats amazing. I'm also hoping Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has one too!
The Danish frogman corps also uses it, or at least they have used it oO(It's there

I’ll check that out Christian!!!
Very nice. Citizen definitely doesn’t get the love it deserves. I am very surprised how well it fits. Thanks for showing it to us!
Speak for yourself. Most respected and common dive watch in use.

I like how Citizen generally takes function over form. They'd rather give you a watch that does everything well.
I real looker, would love one. Thanks for sharing and another great job mate.
Ripley would wear that from Alien.
I’ve been looking at the promaster land, it looks like a budget version of TGV’s Breitling (love that as well)
Good vid. 👍🏼
Mrs MWC: What the heck is that piece of carbuncle?!
It's a beautiful watch, reminds me a lot of the wild Casio watches of the 1980s and 1990s.
I run my Aqualand on an Erika's Original MN strap. Exceptional comfortable in this config, and one of the few watches I actually take in the water.
Have a look at the Citizen ' Orca ' in blue , I just grabbed one before Christmas and its impressive !
Been wanting this one for ages now!!! Saving up - next buy hopefully…. Depending on the missus 😂
Nice to see you finally moving up in the world
AWESOME watch!
You should ask her before you buy. She has impeccable taste.👍
Awesome watch but Citizen really needs to release an updated version with solar and a back light.
24mm ZULU strap, in a heavy duty nylon, works perfect. You can also use a single pass leather strap as an option.
Congrats! Love this watch, it’s forever in my collection.
About damn time !!
Fun review. Thanks bro
Love your channel. Let’s do some higher end watches. Carl, F Bucherer, Oris, Omega, etc. and how about micro brands every now and then?
Love it's military look and love larger watches but could do without the built in coffee table though!
Citizen JP-2000 "Pingo". When the Danish king was training to be a frogman, he wore this watch. He's nickname was Pingo, hense the reference. 😎
😂 great ending, great video nice watch looks perfect for your wrist 👍🏻
I have to side with your wife on this one. This isn't a watch, this is a cry for help. You're surrounded by people who care for you and want to help you Russ. Let us walk with you through this difficult time. This watch has a face that's perfect for radio. I'm reminded of when parents post pictures of their (sorry) ugly baby but still think he/she is beautiful, and we have to nod politely in agreement and smile. I'm sure she has a nice personality though. ;)
Hilarious 😂😂😂😂😂
I've always loved those. I would have purched one if not for the depth gauge. Oh yeah, my wife said the exact same thing when I tried it on in Japan.
You should check out the Orca. It’s a big boy, but I love the design!
Aragon watches make some decent dive watch straps. BTW, take a look at the BJ2169 AquaLand w/ EcoDrive another ISO compliant ProMaster Diver's model.
Great watch for scuba diving .. not so much for desk diving. Mine was nicked years ago. I should get another.
I reckon the orange minute hand on my black dial 1521 gives this a run for its money, having handled both. Pretty close any way
As you mentioned, I also see the "Arnie" looking at this piece (less the wart protruding from the case).
Pingo is slang for «pingvin» which is Danish for penguin 👍
Very cool watch 👍
You had to get one at some point, a mat for a mug of tea 😂 never ceases to please Mrs Mwc
i like citizen divers. The way the lcd display is curved on top to follow the curve of the dial is cool. Its Arnie AF
Aqualand 💪 its a winner
I got my Promaster Diver from Argos. Red dial. Got to be the cheapest ISO certified diver on the market. Its not the same watch of course but same heritage. Strap wasn't comfortable either! Great watch though and good for a daily wear. I put most of my divers on leather straps as I'm not a frogman to trade!
Glad to finally have a spot in the collection!
I had no idea they re-released this. I’m gettin’ it!
i'll wait for the proper size version and without the depth gauge. i like the dial though
I love my BN2038-01L Promaster. If Citizen bring out a revised version of this watch with a solar model, I'll be all over it Russ.
Sorry I buy protreks with 24I'm lug widths. Bloody Amazon Silk browser and it's horrible spell check.
bro this watch really does the job for me, I'm also an enthusiast but just a poor level to have none of them,, can you do the honor by making the empty hand start with this citizen to your this follower
♥♥♥
Have a look at a newer AquaLand; the BJ2169, Eco-Drive. Aragon makes plenty of 24mm rubber straps. Not surprised by wife's reaction, the AqL is a tool. The 2169 is double the $$$ of the JP2007
That Citizen is bordering on a Casio with all those pushers - no wonder you love it.
You should look into the nb1050 series by citizen if you havent. Spiritual successor to thr sarb03x series. The nb1060 are really unqiue dial watches for the price as well. Citizen has some gems!
I have the fully lumed dial version and it comes on a much softer silicone strap for some reason🤷♂️
Correction, Citizen where the first to make the digital or electronic depth guage on a watch. 👍
