  • Old Town San Diego is the location of the first European settlement in #california , and the birthplace of America’s Finest city. The Old Town San Diego State Historic Park pays tribute to the #cultural influences that make California special. It consists of restored and reconstructed buildings that capture the energy of #sandiego during the 1800s. The central plaza is lined with buildings dating back to the 1820s that offer a glimpse of the lifestyles of San Diego’s first residents.
This documentary takes us on a journey through the #history of the #oldtownsandiego area, beginning with the Kumeyaay #nativeamerican peoples. We’ll then learn more about the arrival of #spanish explorers and their occupation in the San Diego region. #mexico would take control over San Diego, and it would have a large influence on the area’s #culture , #traditions , and history. However, their control over San Diego would be short lived as the #america would seize control of San Diego after the Mexican-American War. It was during this period that building such as the Seeley Stable Museum, San Diego Union #newspaper Museum, Casa de Bandini & The Cosmopolitan Hotel, First Brick Courthouse, La Casa de Estudillo, La Casa de Machado y Stewart, the Robinson-Rose house, McCoy House, Johnson House, and Old Town #theatre would become part of Old Town.

I have lived in Southern California my whole life and I didn’t even know half of these facts of San Diego. Very informative and very well narrated.

I found this video after visiting Old Town San Diego a couple of months ago and loved it so much that I wanted to learn more. Thanks for this content! I know San Diego has soooo much to offer, but during our two days there we stayed exclusively in the Point Loma area, visiting Cabrillo National Monument and Old Town. We loved it so much that we didnt get time to see the rest of the city. I will certainly have to return some day.

Hi Jeremy, and thank you for the kind words! Old Town San Diego is one of my favorite places in the entire world. You stayed in a great area to get a start on the San Diego experience, and you are right.. there is a lot more! I would suggest searching youtube for some history about the Gaslamp district and the history of Balboa Park. Those are a couple famous locations that have a ton of San Diego history. Thanks for stopping by!

They came with the Bible in their hand....they saw our beautiful land.
They taught us how to close our eyes and pray,
