    Beautiful guitars. And Steve Earle had been an inspiring human being to me for many years.

    Your "Guitar Town" album is what inspired me to take up guitar back in the eighties. I still suck, but nevertheless I have somehow over the years inspired a couple of younger friends to learn guitar, and they are now much better at it than I am. So, I at least have that going for me. lol .......... Thank you, and thanks for creating this channel. Looking forward to even more videos from you.

    I saw a 'halo round the moon' last month. First time I remember seeing one, and I was thrilled! This song's been rambling through my head since then. This is a brilliant idea for an on-going video concept.I love seeing these old guitars! Please keep doing them, Steve...

    OMG Tipitina's was the first time I saw you. I was front row. Talking to some guy because I love to talk as much as you do. He points and says, "Steve Earle". I turned and you stopped almost in front of me. All I could say was, "Oh shit". Speechless. I was already in love with the young and middle-aged Steve Earle. That night I fell in love with this one. You are amazing. And I'm just getting started.

    Greetings from VA and hope you have a great Father's day. This is a beautiful guitar and really love that old rosewood. I'm glad you are hitting on the history of Martin and as far as these old guitars go how do you keep them from drying and cracking? Damp sponge in a baggy? I heard it works good. Also, do you typically string all these guitars with 11's?

    • @xkguy
      @xkguy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Be very careful how you humidify your guitars. Be sure that the 'sponge' in your baggie does not leak or you will have water in your guitar. I use Nomad brand exclusively after a very expensive lesson.

    Hi, Steve. This may be in ignorance, but what type of strings do you use on such an old and beautiful instrument?

    • @cb6784
      @cb6784 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ones that dont mess up the frets and fretboard

    • @cb6784
      @cb6784 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably light to medium guage too

    • @major_organ
      @major_organ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      pre-1923 (I think) martins werent braced for modern steel strings. so you would use (today) nylon or very very light silk & steels. when this guitar was made they were using gut strings!

    I'd like to get buried in a coffin case. They might have to squidge me up some. Hell, a gig bag would do. A new set of strings would be good. Longlife ones. I might be dead a while...

    Cool guitars. Pretty sound. The necks look pretty wide on those guitars or is it just me? I have short fingers so it isn't easy to reach around to play it, or maybe I am just not doing it right? Love the pearl buttons. The song, sometimes I think I am the ghost.

    I'm curious, does a guitar collector detune them when they are stored and not used... how often would Steve be putting new strings on? ...to show and play or when he's recording?

  • @andybowen1249
    @andybowen1249 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wonder if Steve Earle has ever made a bad song lol? I mean I’ve listened to loads of his stuff and every song is brilliant. How cool is the artwork on his album covers?
    They really knew what they were doing back then. Re Steve’s comments about Brazilian rosewood and what they used back then as oppose to the stuff with all the swirly patterns used now. I’ve noticed this type of thing before with the Victorians and them going for the practical and useful thing over beauty.

    • @xkguy
      @xkguy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Boy Who Never Cried, Condi, Condi and Valentine Day. But 3 out of 200 Plus isn't a bad record.

  • @bruceherrmann1219
    @bruceherrmann1219 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great guitar and a song that seems perfect for the guitar. I think most of the buttons on the tuners from that time
    were bone, ivory reserved for a few very fancy machines. That one shows what I mentioned on the post for the 1-28, there
    was not the same attempt to fill the pores during the shellac application so you get a buildup of polish etc. over time.
    Not the same as the 1890's 1-28 Looking forward to more guitars and songs.

    Steve...move the capo up one fret and it is more in our vocal range. I play it capoed at fret one using A, D E. I just can't sing forcefully that low.
