Is this possibly the most perfect village on Earth? You decide. It has even made it to the top of our list of places to visit in the UK! There are so many surprises to this magical place we are already looking at places to stay. This a MUST SEE for anyone that loves or plans to travel the UK. Some VERY special P.O. I think I have seen this place before. In general you don't need a list. Because there are great places and people all over Britain. Don't limit yourselves.
It's a beautiful place, living in Cornwall I have been there several times. As for living there? Its a big no no. As you saw in the video Natasha and Debbie , everywhere you walk is on a very steep hill. No shops and deliveries from supermarkets are As they said are left at the top of the very steep hill, and trust me it's a hell of a walk. No cars no Internet no phone signal, no double glazing or central heating. All the propertie are listed buildings. If you want to live in the 1700,s that's the place to go.
Only half an hour away from my house! We visit Clovelly every year at Christmas it is a family tradition. We follow the brass band and the children from the local schools singing Christmas carols down to the harbour for a service, the Christmas light switch on followed by fireworks over the harbour. All in aid of of the amazing RNLI!
Love the show! I have lived in the uk all my life and I am learning a lot about places in the UK I have never visited through your show. You both are such a nice couple, you should be made honorary Brits :-)
Now that you've covered beautiful Clovelly, perhaps find a video on the twin villages of Lynton & Lynmouth, which are connected by a water-powered railway/elevator! You could follow that by Watersmeet (not a village but still in Devon), which I believe is still also privately owned. (Offer crumbs and robins come to your table as you sit drinking your tea.)
I commented on clovelly to say it wasn’t as nice 50 years later on very pricey for my 6 person family . Now Lyndon ad lidmouth! Free and beautiful and have a close friend who lives there.ta ta!
Was it not Lynton & Lynmouth that was almost destroyed in a flood of some sort? I remember my parents taking me and my brother to see some ruined houses.
@@AncientBriton1948 Yes, you're right. It happened sometime in the early 50s if I recall. There's a small "museum" dedicated to the tragedy, incorporating a wonderfully fashioned and room-size scale model of the area -- at least it was still there in 2006, the last time I was there (from London.)
Clovelly is one of the most beautiful places i have ever visited. It is a long time since i was last there. The donkeys used to carry your luggage down to the hotel. The village most likely accepts donations for the upkeep of the donkeys.
I am so pleased to hear the donkeys are still there, but are no longer expected to work 😊 and - whilst on the subject of animals - what an ideal place to have cats, with all those lanes and alley-ways for them to explore and no need to worry about them being run over 😼
Ahh i love Clovelly! a beautiful village. Devon is one of my favourite Counties to visit, glad you managed to find a video, there are many more beautiful areas in Devon. Wow some great gifts at the end, the wooden plaque and Princess Elizabeths wedding day souvenir book are amazing
Clovelly is a stunning place to visit. On a clear day, at one point on the way down to the harbour you'd think you were looking out at the Mediterranean. Beautiful, just beautiful! Also, there's a waterfall that comes out on to the beach, not far from where the Little girl found her rock.
North Devon has some beautiful places, Lynton, Lynmouth are stunning and sandy beaches like Croyde, Woolacombe and so many other places. I grew up in Devon, Quite close to these places, If you ever get to the UK, The area is so worth a visit.
Clovelly is a beautiful part of the world, I’ve been there a few times when staying in Ilfracombe (another place worth a visit). If you ever get over here, I definitely recommend - also Lynton and Lynmouth is gorgeous too, if you’re not afraid of heights you can take a walk around valley of the rocks and you’ll see mountain goats
Hello there both. I live about 5 miles away from Clovelly in the nearby town of Bideford. We’re actually on the North Devon coast, not west Devon as stated on the video. You would both love it around here, towering cliffs, river estuaries and miles of sandy storm beaches popular with surfers. Move slightly inland and you have the rolling hills of Devon, narrow country lanes with high hedgerows, ancient woodland and green pastures with cattle and sheep.
Most of the older Devon & Cornwall villages are just like this as the whole area is cliffs all around the coast. If you like this you should watch the move 'Fishermans Friends' 2019.
My Father and Step-family live there … they have 3 cottages in the village, my step-brother is the harbour Master and does boat trips in the bay plus he’s a fisherman. My dad lives right at the bottom a few houses away from the life boat house.
I'm in love with Clovelly in fact most of Devon. When i win a few lottery's haha, i want to buy a house in either Lynton & Lynmouth in North Devon or Dartmouth in South Devon. Then also buy a house in the Cotswolds, Grasmere in the Lake District, Sandbanks in Dorset and a house on the Norfolk Broads. 😍😉
Absolutely loved Clovelly. Walked there along the coast and stayed overnight before walking on. It was so peaceful after tourists left. Lots of cats and locals in the pub and fishing. It was a memorable evening.
Was there years ago .Had lobster for lunch . Really lovely place . Maybe have a look at Portmeirion a village on Wales north coast.A very unique place with its Italian themed buildings. The village was featured in the tv series The Prisoner.
Watched this one today for the first time. What a lovely little village Clovelly is. Aww I love Donkey's too. They have such sweet souls ❤ Your P.O box gifts were awesome! That book of Queen Elizabeth's wedding is something to treasure and would go well with the picture I sent you earlier this year. 😍
I love Clovelly, it hasn't changed for years! My Dad has some cinne film "silent film" from the seventies just before I was born, and apart from nobody wearing flares now, it is exactly the same to look at. The Red Lion pub's food was ridiculously expensive a couple of years ago though, the last time I was here, compared to what it was!
Live just along the coast, there are numerous picturesque fishing villages in Devonshire and agree Lynton and Lynmouth twin villages will knock you out of you think Clovelly is beautiful.
My aunt lives in Devon and she took me to clovelly we walked down but there was no way I could walk back up it’s steep as hell and quite slippery on the cobblestones lol but it’s a beautiful place to visit.
I visited Clovelly about thirty years ago and it was lovely to revisit with you today, thank you. It is an absolutely spectacular village and well worth the visit, a real step back in time. 😊
I've been there once I was suprised that you paid to see it. It was worth every penny, beautiful place. If you're geting on a bit I'd take the land rover back up the hill though.
I wondered if you have watched a video of the USA. Cemetery at Madingly near Cambridge UK .Such a beautiful , tranquil place for the fallen American servicemen of WW2. Thank you both for your wonderful videos, I so look forward to seeing them and hopefully you get to visit us here in ‘old blighty’ as soon as possible. Trish, Bedford UK.
Wonderful to see you have found Clovelly, in the video when they're looking from the top of the hill over the cove if you across the water, you see the hill in the distance, I live in a village on the other side of the hill. I am really glad you're enjoying Devon 😊❤ love watching you discover the UK ❤
Good day Ladies I live in north Devon not to far from Clovelly and have been several times. If you ever make the trip there may I draw your attention to a little shed/ shop about half way down the main walk, there was a man who was selling mackerel baps, lovely fresh plump smoked fillets in a fresh bread roll, making my mouth water writing this. On more than one occasion I have had one on the way down to the pub and another on the way back. Bootiful, I also remember having to hold on to the wall on the way back up thinking it was the steep climb but it also have had something to do with the visit to the pub. Great post by the way, thank you.
North Devon (Where Clovelly is located) is beautiful, I've holidayed there (Devon and Cornwall) many times, and in fact I'm back there again for a vacation in a few weeks. The people are great and the scenery is stunning. You should add Boscastle to your list of places to check out, famous for its floods and witches museum.... another nice video ladies, thank you.
We live in Kent, UK, but holiday in Devon regularly, this place is as beautiful as it looks... it really is. A must visit, especially for overseas visitors.
Yes myself and my husband visited Clovelly a few years ago. It's absolutely fantastic. Villagers so welcoming, the shops and tea rooms were delightful. We had a lovely lunch, which was great ,thank you ladies xx
I have been to Clovelly a few times and yes it’s quintessentially English but my daughter lives in Devon in Wembury which is a National Trust Beach so I visit a lot as you can imagine just beautiful to catch-up with grandchildren and their play ground is the beach ❤
visited Clovelly several times as I grew up in the area. There are many beautiful villages along the Devon and Cornwall coasts - One thing to remember is they are all on the North Atlantic Coast with nothing between them and the Americas - so they get absolutely battered in winter storms - while Clovelly is slightly sheltered by the headland the waves regularly come right over the harbour wall.
They seem to have a Lifeboat Station, so you could donate to them, oor the donkey sanctuary. It really is a beautiful area, the south-west has lots of pretty out of the way villages. The north-east tea towel depicts Whitby
the village of Bridgnorth in Shropshire is beautiful lots of history, its like 2 villages in 1 low town on one side of the river Severn and if you use the vernacular to reach high town on the other side of the river.x
I've visited Clovelly several times, and if my memory serves me correctly, the cobbled road going into Clovelly was named 'Down-along' and when you left the village by the same road it was named 'Up-along'.
We used to take our children there every year from 1981 through 1996 my children are now 42 and 40 and we still talk about our holidays in north Devon. Clovelly was free when we used to go there but it's one of the quaintest villages in the UK.
Clovelly is a glorious place to visit. Also Lyndon and Lynmouth as others have said. Mousehole is another lovely village to visit. I have such fond memories of visiting.
Girls, l live in Somerset and have been there many times in my life, as a younger me, we didn't have to pay, but am happy to now to help keep it as it has always been. The only word for it is enchanting!!
I have been to Clovelly with my family probably about five times and it is as good if not better in real life as the video. It was fascinating to watch the villagers pull the wooden sleds loaded with their shopping. I must say it is great to see both of your reactions to this beautiful place, almost childlike (I mean that in the best possible way). My wife has always said she would love to go back and visit and I am with her on that, just not looking forward to the walk back up. 🤣Love, hugs and prayers from Sussex, UK
You certainly don't get towns like that in the USA. UK may be small but we have so many diverse places & history. That's the best thing about Great Britain because it's GREAT!!!
I've been to Clovelly twice. First time when I was about 11 with my parents. The memory of it stayed with me and I finally, with a small fear it would not live up to my memory, got to go back when I was 70. Apart from the touristy gift shop that you have to go though from the car park to get to the village, it was all I had remembered from all those years ago. Just be aware if you get to go, the climb back up from the harbour is STEEP! 😄 (ps, the pub half way down, the New Inn, is worth a visit)
Hi, we live in North Devon and have often visited Clovelly and many other coastal villages . Check out Lundy Island, Lynton and Lynmouth and the Valley of Rocks with wonderful scenery and histories. Exmoor is the nearby national park which borders Devon and Somerset. Great show thanks. Jeff x
My son spent a couple of years here as the chef of the pub half way down the hill a few years ago. They gave him a room in the staff house next door. We went to visit him regularly , life was glorious in the sun with nothing special to do but moving in and out was not good and rubbish disposal was a real drag. Also all the hotel staff were responsible for getting the food , beer , spirits and clean laundry etc to the hotel, dragging everything on sledges up or down , he didn’t miss that at all when he moved on. He did however miss the village and still visits the friends he made there frequently. Pros and cons of living in one of the prettiest places to live.
I'm 76yrs OLD ... I first went to Clovelly when I was a child in the 1950's, the donkeys were still in use and you could see them being walked up and down those steep roads/lanes .. whatever they are. I have been back at least 3 times since then and hoefully I will be visiting again with my daughter sometime soon because she has never been to Cornwall. It really is so quaint and beautiful. I've learnt a lot from this video, I knew nothing about it being privately owned, that holiday homes weren't allowed and that you had to pay to enter. It was a very informative video.
This is the most beautiful village I have ever visited. I’m not sure if I will ever return as my poor knees are wrecked and the cobbles can be hard work. Well worth a visit though you won’t find anything else like it.
Natasha and Debbie, Clovelly is a beautiful and wonderful well loved village, I’m glad you found it. If you are looking for unique and fascinating historic places you should look up the City of Chester my home town. Chester located in the North West next to the Welsh border and was once a very long time ago the Roman fortress of Deva, and is complete with Roman walls encircling the City, we also have a Roman Amphitheatre. The city inside the walls is built in the Tudor style with beautiful black and White half timbered buildings, in the City you will find something called The Rows a historic and fascinating system of two level walkways which are totally unique to Chester and will not be found anywhere else in the Uk, and must be seen, I think it is possible to see a video of just The Rows alone. There are many more things to be seen, a beautiful cathedral which was originally built in the 1500’s as a monestry. Of course like most places in England we have Castel remains, and we have a world famous Zoo. We also have the oldest horse racing course in the Uk. The thing to note about Chester is that it is a very small and compact City easily seen on foot . Also it has Royal connections King Charles was the Earl of Chester while he was Prince Charles and the title is now bestowed on Prince William.
I was lucky enough to visit this place a few years back and it was as stunning as you think it is, well worth the money to go visit and take in this piece of British history. Along the beach where the little girl got the pebble you can find a nice little waterfall.
Another vote for Corfe Castle from me too. It can be seen from miles around. NB for N & D Corfe Castle is the name of the village and the actual castle.
Check out at the bottom of that map there and you’ll see the Isle of Wight. Would love to see you guys check out this place out. . It’s beautiful and it’s a place where I spent a lot of my childhood holidays as all my family are originally from there. Fantastic beaches, beautiful countryside, lots of quaint villages and fabulous buildings like Osbourne house which was Queen Victoria’s favourite place. Hope you get a chance to take a look. 😊
Despite what the village advertises, there is no charge to walk into Clovelly. I live pretty close, and often go fishing from there. I have never, would never pay, the place is very well off: not all the inhabitants, but the village owners. I used to live on Lundy, and would often come back to the mainland through the harbour. The charge is for the bus to take you down. It is steep to walk, but seriously, if you can walk then do it. Its part of the charm. By the way, its much easier to run up the village street ( I did it last about 15 years ago): running down is to chance shattering your ankle!
I live in south Devon so it’s only about and hour and a half drive across to west Devon. It’s an absolutely stunning place to visit. The cobbled hills are insane though. Very steep
If you visit clovelly in summer, you really should stay overnight at the New inn, clovelly, when the visitors have gone, the place is magical, the silence, and peace have to be experienced.unique.
We were there while holidaying some 45 years ago, AND the donkeys were still used then, and for transporting the more elderly tourists who couldn't manage the steep passageways and lanes. I doubt I could do it today, the climb back is so very STEEP! A pretty little place and especially so out of season. Free to access the village in those days and just park the car at the top where you might.
I live near Clovelly! My Aunt and Uncle lived in what I think was Higher Clovelly, and as kids, my cousin and I would walk down and sneak in from the back to avoid paying. I think like many others who live here in North Devon, I often forget what’s right here on my doorstep, so I am going to pop over to Clovelly soon!
Funny story.. my parents when they were dating were en route to Cannock Chase in the midlands and ended up in Clovelly, they’ve both now passed but they never made it to Cannock Chase in their 40 years of marriage but they often went back to Clovelly!!
Hi you lovely ladies, have just seen your vlog on clovelly North Devon it is a gorgeous place. I actually do live just across the bay so when I walk my dog clovelly is in site. Beautiful place to live.
I went to Closely when my son was about 5 years old, Going down to the sea was ok but when we attempted the return my son had to be carried on my shoulders and it dam near killed me so i had to rest at the pub😀. A beautiful place but i would train as a pack mule before you visit. there are sleds which locals use to transport goods and sundry items around the village.
Lovely ladies , went to Clovelly when I was 14 , I was a bit puffed at the top of the hill , now at 77 I would definitely need the Land rover to get back up . One correction I would make to the narrative, it's the West of England but Clovelly is located on the North coast of Devon . Great video .🇬🇧
Hi girls, I have been to Clovelly a couple of times, but a few years ago. It hasn’t changed by the look of it. My husbands family live in Bude in Cornwall which is not that far away. My family live in the south of England, not that far from Windsor ( Windsor Castle)I Enjoy watching and listening. Take care 👍♥️
I've been a few times and is gorgeous! You can take boat trips from the quay and fish for mackerel. Not far to the east (5 miles - about 15 mins drive) is a smaller but similar but smaller version called Bucks Mills. I was lucky to have a friend whose parents owned a holiday cottage there and was lucky enough to stay there several times. Also worth a quick visit if you are in the area. It has an abandoned tin mine on the shore. Hope you get to the area when you are over. It is stunning!
Yes, Clovelly is a beautiful village to visit. I remember going there in the 1970s, and then you didn't have to pay to enter! I see a few people have already mentioned Lynton and Lynmouth, i think it's my favourite area in Devon. You really must watch a video on it. You won't be disappointed it's absolutely stunning. Look out for the wild goats in the valley of rocks or walk alongside the river and have a cream tea at the national trust cafe at Watersmeet. Take a ride in the water powered carriage that takes you up the cliff edge from Lynmouth to Lynton at the top or vice versa. 😊
You two are funny. Endearing and kind.I love your platform (,sorry didn't know how to describe your short films) My son now loves you too.thanjs for sharing ❤❤🥰🥰
You can walk around the grounds at the top of the village, we visited the walled garden and met the lady of the house... really nice lady, had a nice chat about gardening and covering various crops with fleece.
Haven't watched the vid yet just saw the title. I'm intrigued to see what you think of Clovelly as I live two miles from there. The steep hill is a killer to walk up, not that easy to walk down come to think of it. If you want stunning scenery and good work out then it's a good place to go!
Clovelly is such a lovely place. I went there with my Family many yrs ago when we were on holiday in Devon. It is so quaint . If you ever go there though make sure you wear rubber soled shoes like sneakers etc. My Aunt and my Cousins Mum In Law wore Summer sandals and they were slipping and sliding and the cobbles stones lol. It really is a lovely place to visit. I thoroughly recommend you visit there when you come to the Uk. 🙂. We ladies and the children caught the Land Rover taxi back up, our men folk decided to be macho and walked back up lol. They were totally knackered by the time they got to the top. lol 😅

@@tinajohns2572 And pretty much the whole village is owned by one family so you can only rent your house.
I live about 20 minutes drive from Clovelly it's beautiful to visit
Natasha and Debbie are discovering the South West of England. Devon, cornwall,Dorset and Somerset stunningly beautiful
Lmfao they haven't even beed there they are a couple of muppets
Johnny Depp has just moved away permanently from the US to live in sleepy Somerset...
They should visit Selworthy Green in Somerset; it’s like Hobbitland
I'm a Londoner & have visited Clovelly twice & it is beautiful. The filming doesn't do justice to how steep the cobbled lane is. Breathtaking!!! ❤
I can attest to that 😅

Hey, i went there about 3 years ago and it looks even more beautiful in the sun/summer
Clovelly is absolutely beautiful.
We live in Kent, UK, but holiday in Devon regularly, this place is as beautiful as it looks... it really is. A must visit, especially for overseas visitors.
Dartmoor is 50 square miles of beautiful Devon. We currently live on the edges of the National Park.
Not many of these videos mention it.
Dartmoor National Park is over 360 square miles!
Yes myself and my husband visited Clovelly a few years ago.
It's absolutely fantastic.
Villagers so welcoming, the shops and tea rooms were delightful.
We had a lovely lunch, which was great ,thank you ladies xx
You should check out the village where I grew up in Somerset called Dunster. A medieval village with a castle. You'll love it
I have been to Clovelly a few times and yes it’s quintessentially English but my daughter lives in Devon in Wembury which is a National Trust Beach so I visit a lot as you can imagine just beautiful to catch-up with grandchildren and their play ground is the beach ❤
visited Clovelly several times as I grew up in the area.
Visited Clovelly around 20 years ago, remember it well and yes was very steep but worth it, must go back..
Thanks for the video..😊
I've visited Clovelly several times, and if my memory serves me correctly, the cobbled road going into Clovelly was named 'Down-along' and when you left the village by the same road it was named 'Up-along'.
😊 Clovelly is stunning. I live about a 15 minute drive away and used to work there every day. That was a scary drive down though 😅
I went in 1998. I seem to remember they were still using the Donkeys to move stuff around. Really cool to see it again.
We used to take our children there every year from 1981 through 1996 my children are now 42 and 40 and we still talk about our holidays in north Devon. Clovelly was free when we used to go there but it's one of the quaintest villages in the UK.
When I have visited Clovelly it has always been sunny and even so much better in real life. Lovely going down, but hell going back up.
I've been, it's lovely also suggest Lynmouth in devon. I'm off to bourton on the water today in cotswolds, also lovely
Absolutely beautiful place, thank you for the video, brilliant gifts too, especially from Christopher :-)
I recommend it, it’s my favourite place in the world, I have family there so visit often and will be there again very soon, can’t wait
I visited Devon and Cornwall onve. Clovelly was one of the highlights of the holiday. Although some way away Bath is also well worth a visit.
Hiya girls Richard the black cab driver here. Devon really is a beautiful place. All the best girls x
I’m Cornish and lived here all my life, , but my dad was from Devon, with the Devonshire accent. I love both. This is beautiful. Why haven’t I been?
I was lucky enough to visit this place a few years back and it was as stunning as you think it is, well worth the money to go visit and take in this piece of British history. Along the beach where the little girl got the pebble you can find a nice little waterfall.
Live in South west England been to Clovelly a few times as a child might have to revisit.
Look at corfe Castle in Dorset. What an amazing place. So beautiful. Love your show. Been watching for long while
Another vote for Corfe Castle from me too.
Paying to get into the village must be a new thing. I visited in 1981 and there was no charge and the donkeys were going up and down the hill.
What a beautiful quaint little village ....stunning ❤❤
Been twice lovely place the walk back up hill is a killer on your legs
I loved Clovelly, they used to use sleighs to move things around because it's so steep
My dad Andy is the postman at Clovelly! He certainly has calves of steel delivering everyone’s post! 💪🏼
Hi you lovely ladies, have just seen your vlog on clovelly North Devon it is a gorgeous place. I actually do live just across the bay so when I walk my dog clovelly is in site. Beautiful place to live.
If you come to the uk visit here I came years ago with my kids and its not changed its stunning its like you've gone back in time
I went to Closely when my son was about 5 years old, Going down to the sea was ok but when we attempted the return my son had to be carried on my shoulders and it dam near killed me so i had to rest at the pub😀.
Endearing and kind.I love your platform (,sorry didn't know how to describe your short films)
My son now loves you too.thanjs for sharing ❤❤🥰🥰
They were totally knackered by the time they got to the top. lol 😅
