Hi! Gymnastics coach here, this is not a good way to learn how to do a backflip because you’re only learning a back handspring and you would not go high enough if you wanted to actually do a backflip! If your trying to learn here are my tips: Practice your arm swings into a high tuck jump, moving backwards, practice pushing your feet of the floor with a lot of force! Make sure you have a trained coach with you and make sure that you are safe! Good luck! 💕
My coach taught me the back handspring when I did gymnastics as a kid. After a while he said, now you can do a backflip too. I thought it would be harder but he just instructed me to touch the ground lighter and in a couple tries I did a backflip. Now at 33 I can still do backflips with my eyes closed but front flips mess up my equilibrium for some reason.
Yes back handsprings and backflips have a completely different mechanic; the former is jumping as far back as you can because you're going to land on your hands, while the latter requires you jump high because you need to make it all the way around. A back handspring also encourages an arched motion whereas a backflip can be executed as many different positions in the air, like tucked or piked, but none of them are arched! You do different drills to learn each one.
Although I've never done gymnastics, most gymnasts and cheerleaders I know learned back handsprings before learning backflips. While the skill may not directly translate, backward inversion is unintuitive to many people, so gaining confidence in a simpler, but similar move is important before going all in.
These kids are learning a back handspring I think. Surely they can’t be learning a back tuck or they would be doing different drills..so this is fine in this case… though I’d love for everyone to learn some basic back bends or bridges first.
i learned it this way and the back hand spring is the start of learning a full backflip. after the back hand spring it didn’t take long at all to learn how with no hands
I recently learned how to backflip at a trampoline park where a staff member let me reserve the foam pit to practice and for him to coach me. I learned in less than 30 minutes and I moved from the foam pit to trampolines to normal ground. He was super chill and now we're good friends.
@@chazzbranigaan9354 you’re right, you don’t need a professional for everything, but if you’re not able to stick the landing you could end up severely injured or even paralyzed. The human body is not one to mess with, so it’s safer to have a professional/experienced friend guide you

I think this should be included in Physical Educational systems in school, as well as self defense techniques.
Only optinally though, backflips do noy really serve a real purpose other than risking fatal injury
I taught myself by doing them in the water. Do it in the water over and over. Then, when you try it on land you remember the feeling
Learning something is not hard just have a good teacher
Wow I tried it and I could finally do a backflip with no fear❤
Yeah coo..WAIT WHAT
@@Tibbie_Element yea it's true now I can do backflips with no fear
What they are doing is not a backflip
@@meghanmarcussen2484 I know but I done the same routine and it made me do a backflip and also when you're going into a back handspring to conquer your fear of going upside down and doing a backflip and once you do a back handspring a couple of times then you can do a backflip that's how I learned
Help me
You can learn a back hand spring in a day or a few. Its mostly about getting over the fear and being confident. The actually movement just takes some repition that your body gets used to
that is smart! I just fell on my head repeatedly until I got it lol.
I'd love to learn to do this as an adult
