It is so great to see young people sharing these stories. Hearing a story is a magic that should never be lost. You are a wonderful storyteller, thank you for sharing. 💙🧜♀️
Interesting! I grew up with this book “From Sea to Shining Sea: A Treasury of American Folklore and Folk Songs,” and if you Google it you can read the whole story, retold by Helen Caswell, with its *gorgeous* illustrations in Google Books. In that version the bird primarily disguises himself with a pair of those Arctic sunglasses that look so cool, and it’s her brothers who go to get her back bc they miss having a woman to care for them (the snakes!) and chop off her finger joints with the paddles themselves, with each joint representing a different species that comes to be.
Love these. Have you read/heard of the book "Women who run with the wolves"? She analyzes fairy tales/mythology and the lessons they were meant to teach us as women. So good!
Oh wow! You did a great job! Very well researched and enjoyably told as usual! I wasn’t even aware of the different versions of the story. I’m so happy you covered my suggestion and thank you so much for the shout out! 🥰
@@LianaChau Just asking in the version involving a sleeping potion does it ever say how long she was asleep for while she was being taken away by the birdman? Just out of curiosity. I don't know why I am curious. I just want to know. This is an innocent question. Please be civil.
Thanks for another good story but the Father was such a coward in this one!!! Like you said "her snake dad, we don't like him' I love that you change every week the type of story.
Tryna tell me no ones ever said you look like a painting.. ? do your friends and family have eyes? 😍 you’re so pretty omgg also just really amazing at story telling! Thank you for hearing me out. 😗✌🏼✌🏼
so i've taken up learning astrology and have been really interested in trans-neptunian objects and asteroids and what they could mean in our charts. thank you for the insight on Sedna! sounds like she represents dissatisfaction (with men? with marriage? shrug) and betrayal and maybe her fingers being chopped off means a loss of power. the bright side of this "planet" showing up in a chart could mean that a loss of power will give you a newer and better power (goddess of the sea). maybe there are lessons about materiality in there, too?
may i also make a request? since the IAU regulates the naming of new asteroids and TNOs to only mythical deities, could you tell stories of the more recently named bodies, especially ones from non-Western mythologies and female deities?! Quaoar, Haumea, Makemake, Hylonome, Gonggong, to name a few!

really enjoyed this one :) and THANK YOU for mentioning that eskimo is an offensive term (when I was younger my dad told me it was pretty much a slur)
Thanks Christine!! Glad you enjoyed it :D
Really good story 👏!
I'm the version that I know the man was a shape shifter and he's made her starve but like you said there are different versions
I've been a bad fan and missed a couple eps but this was great. She gives me Princess Kaguya and Jasmine vibes!!
Omg never a bad fan John!! Appreciate you tuning in when you can 😊 and I get those vibes too!!
Nice. I knew Sedna was the name of a trans-Neptunian object orbiting the Sun and that it was named after an Inuit goddess, but didn't know the story.
Loved this. Made me laugh and I love this goddess.
