    My son did speech therapy through his school until they kicked him out of the program because he didn’t qualify anymore. He loved it and it gave him so much confidence, at the end he was mostly reading to and helping other kids in the program. I hope people realize that speech therapy is a great tool, not a bad thing.

      They didn't say it was bad. I often wonder why we think late talkers need therapy. The evidence is overwhelming that it either, makes no difference at all, or, is indicative of a highly analytical (listen, observe) mind. The late talkers easily catch up. Their analytical mind remains unique for their age, however.

    Speech therapy is a wonderful thing. Our son started at 2 and by the time he was 5 he was on par with all his classmates. There are simple things that you can do at home. Really just talking to your kid while playing makes a huge difference.

    Agreed. Speech therapy should not carry a stigma. Speech therapists not only help you speak but also swallow. The difference between tasting and enjoying food and being tube fed can't be overstated. Too often health care professionals fail to order speech therapy after a patient has been intubated and lost their ability to speak and eat, thinking those conditions are permanent. This is not always the case.

  • @lisabenneett4735
    @lisabenneett4735 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    They should be happy to take Lilah to speech therapy instead of trying to find ways to delay it.The sooner the better! It's not an "if all else fails," proposition. It is so beneficial and carries no stigma whatsoever. If Tori had all these tools, why hasn't she been utilizing them by now?

    Late talkers are often extremely bright. It's not always because of negative things. They're listeners and observers. They catch up quickly when they do speak but remain far ahead on listening and observing. Tom Sowell did an enormous amount of research on late talkers and wrote a book on it.

  • @ga6589

    My son was a late talker. He even worked up his own sign language. It wasn't until he was four that we started to see improvement. He had two years of speech therapy in kindergarten and first grade. That kid is now an Electrical Engineer with a Master's Degree, making far more money than my husband or I ever did!

    A child at this age should be able to use 3-4 words in a sentence. The sooner you get intervention, the better the outcome. Spoken language and printed language are interconnected. In other words, if the child struggles with speech, she is more likely to present with reading difficulties when she grows up, which will eventually impact her academic performances. However, one of her strengths is she has great imitation skill. She will do really well in therapy.

    These people are ignorant. She is extremely speech delayed and may have other developmental delays. The fact that they know she has speech delay and refuse to take her to a speech therapist just shows what loses they are. Imagine depriving your child of therapy and saying she will teach her herself? Like what? Her “child development” background isn’t enough to help this child.

    The speech therapy can help. If she wants to revert from time to time and crawl, they should let her.
    A chemical in our brains for speech development is produced when we crawl.
    This was explained in our case with our early walker. It balanced out at age 3 and with help by 7 they did well.
    Speech didn't slow capabilities as they read early and was able to do simple math by age 5.
    Glad they are making a plan.
    I don't believe anyone should judge others.
    When you prepare to have children, it's helpful to know risks when possible and make that choice privately.
    I'm sorry for that families loss. Sometimes we learn by experiencing which is painful.

      Wow I never heard that about crawling. Both my grandchildren are in speech therapy. They've been in it since starting school. The oldest is also dyslexic an his speech teacher has helped him learn to read. I almost cry when I see him sitting an reading a book.

    1:11 that’s upsetting, auditory processing problem will not be easy for her. You would hope that it was a physical issue rather than a neurological one so it’s really odd that they seem happy about this.

    I’d be more worried about ongoing ear issues than a need for speech therapy. At her age, the speech therapy would likely occur at no cost through ECSE.

    Do you know they told me. The doctors and a family member that was a speech pathologist that both my kids needed speech therapy. Because they were not speaking when they were two and three years old and actually didn’t speak well until they were 4 1/2 five years old and you know both of them have been very successful at life. They’ve never had any learning disabilities and both of them are officers in the Air Force, one has a masters degree and my daughter is almost with her bachelors. I’m glad that I didn’t subject my kids to that. There was nothing absolutely wrong. They just jump the gun and think that speech therapy is needed. Kids will speak when they are ready.

  • @Fitness-qo5ve
    @Fitness-qo5ve ปีที่แล้ว +1

    They should definitely do speech therapy, under a certain age the parents are taught how to improve their language growth and do most of the direct prompting anyway. If they wait and try to do it themselves, might need the therapy longer. Child development is great but doesn't replace an SLPs expertise. They could be done in less than a year.

    Of course disabled people have the RIGHT to procreate and make babies, but does that make it morally okay? These children suffer. I've heard Zach talk in depth about how his kids' confidence will have to eventually be met with reality because he will never be as fast, as strong, as capable as the other kids. Not to mention the mountain of medical issues they all come out with, wasting both the taxpayers money and hospital resources creating something you know is going to come out with a ton of issues. All the kum-ba-ya and hippie shit aside, procreating when you have a major disability will never sit well with me.

    • @beautywinsfails8867
      @beautywinsfails8867 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well then if you become old and disabled and need medical attention, just make sure you don’t use up and waste taxpayer money, since you feel so strongly. My son has achondroplasia and I’m not using taxpayer money to pay for medical needs, so your assumptions about everyone with achondroplasia using up tax funds is obviously incorrect
