Derived from the Baltimore-class heavy cruisers, they were larger, had an improved machinery layout, and carried a new design of auto-loading, rapid-fire 8"/55 gun (the Mk16). The improved Mk16 guns of the main battery were the first auto-loading 8" guns fielded by the US Navy, and allowed a much higher rate of fire than earlier designs, capable of sustaining eight shots per minute per barrel, or about twice what previous heavy cruisers could. Twelve ships of the class were programmed, but only three ships were completed: Des Moines (CA-134), Salem (CA-139), and Newport News (CA-148), with USS Dallas (CA-140) canceled when she was approximately 28 percent complete.
Ranger J I think your talking about the Des Moines-class cruisers, if I recall correctly the Dallas-class in real life only received a project number, never a designated true name, because they were never built. This is why the name was free for one of the Des Moines-class cruisers.
Played with Spartan once - only realised when I reversed my battleship into him - felt so embarrassed - only redeeming fact was I took a couple of torps he would have took - hopefully will get the chance again to be on same team👍
Played three time against Spartan. Once in ranked battles he was in Queen Elisabeth, I killed him. Another time in standard battle he was in Emperor Nicolai 1st, I torped him to death. He won one time in ranked battles against me (and its on one of his vidéos), I was the last T61 alive with little health, with more health I would have destroyed his Fubuki, I embushed him with "twist and track". Also played against TBull once, TacticAngel... They are good players but not the bests of the bests. cyborg35
I've played with Spartan back in WoT and in WoW (both with and against). It's a fun time. In his Colbert Video (French T3 BB) I was one of the destroyers. I always try to focus him. He laid that challenge out long ago in Tanks.

One-shotted a Dallas this morning in a Pensacola. FIVE CITADELS AT ONCE!! Honestly the American Light Cruiser line looks really good, absolutely loving the Helena and the Cleveland looks promising. Finally a good challenger to the bane that is Soviet cruisers. GG Spartan!
After building 6 Brooklyn-class cruisers, the US came to the point where they reached the ceiling in terms of light cruisers’ displacement regulated by the Washington Naval Treaty. They had only 17,600 of 143,500 tons left, but they needed 20,000 more for two additional Brooklyn cruisers. This whole situation was the reason for designing this project. They had to design the project for the new cruisers and by the end of 1934, 6 variants of ship designs with displacements of 5 thousand to 10 thousand tons were presented. All variants were lighter and smaller versions of Brooklyn. To reduce displacement, the following solutions were proposed: placing the main turrets in the quadruple turrets (this is not where they decided to reduce weight, they had 16 main guns within the same dimensions), twin turrets, reducing the number of triple turrets, reducing the armor thickness, and, accordingly, reducing the propulsion output. However, they managed to count in the tonnage of the amortized Omaha-class cruisers, destroyers, and Brooklyn cruisers that were already constructed and able to match the tonnage restrictions. As a result, all cruisers that actually were constructed were slightly modified and upgraded versions of Brooklyn. The USS Dallas, however, was Des Moines-class heavy cruiser to be named, obviously, Dallas. it was to be designated as CA-140. it was cancelled during construction in 1946. I got this ship right away and was glad I did! I surprisingly did very well first match with this! I only got one kill, but I stayed protected and provided basically a shit load of aggressive support fire, and we won the match!

Would seem to be a fictitious ship. CA-140 Dallas was a planned Des Moines class heavy cruiser, cancelled during construction in 1946. Name was transferred to CA-150 but it was cancelled before construction began. No light cruiser of this type seems to have carried the name. There were similar light cruisers, but why they chose this name in the game, I'm uncertain
Great game Spartan! I'm probably not gonna use these cruisers often lol since i'm more of a heavy brawler. And since light cruisers are equipped with lots of AA i'm assuming that they'll announce something about Aircraft Carriers which i'm a little excited to see. Now we just need the AA stats to come back and then i'm pretty sure that they'll add them to the game.
I like the look of these cruisers. Looks like we'll be getting carriers then, will wait and see if they are implemented with balance. There were a lot of positive announcements too which is great. Looking forward to your thoughts.
Another great video Spartan! I would try out the Norman Scott legendary reload perk over the extra consumable since the Dallas being a light cruiser is as you said designed for quantity of shots and that perk helps towards that. If it came with a heal I’d use the extra consumable but I feel that increased rate of Fire is better than an extra plane and sonar. Can’t wait for the Cleveland after playing the Dallas!
Thank you for all the videos you did/do. I look up your videos all the time when I get a new ship or want tips on a ship i'm not having much luck with. And I hope you see this and can answer my question. If i have a commander set up for lets say for example the dallas. Is that the same setup I will have for all cruisers with that commander or can I use the same commander with different setups for each cruiser I have him selected for?
The commander can be used for multiple different ships however you will have to change traits and skills around for each ship every time you change ships. As we can't have individual ship commander loadouts

No Dallas “class” Light cruiser was ever built. There were 2 ships with the name Dallas (DD-199, SSN-700). It was built by WOW Legends from the draft design No. 389 4C scheme of Dec 8, 1934. (Worldofwarships.eu)

I bought 3 x10 big usn crates costing me 22500 doublons. I got the dallas on my first crate, the helena somewhere in the middle, and the boise on my very last crate. 3 ships and lots of goodies, not bad.
I believe there was a Dallas class that was started and then converted to a carrier. Ik the Yorktown CV-5 was a cruiser hull before they threw a carrier deck on her.

I have the Dallas its just OK imo. You get nothing with American cruisers light or heavy except guns. I understand with the now heavy line which I main. The New Orleans is my most played and either the Baltimore or Myoko would be my 2nd most. I dont like the no frills approach for light cruisers no smoke, no torps etc. tactic would you agree these are literally very high skill cap ships?
The FULLY PACKED LEGENDARY SKILL On commanders is broken .... I’m having issues understanding why I didn’t get my additional consumable charges at legendary mastery 4 . at mastery 1 its +1 consumable charges. At legendary 2 it’s reload time of consumable -1% consumable charges +1, at Legendary 3 it’s reload time of consumable -2% consumable charges +1, at legendary 4 it’s reload time of consumable -3% consumable charges +1. ....at each mastery the description said +1 charges....so far I’ve only received 1 and it brought my consumables to 3 each.....sonar, catapult fight and surveillance radar. So I wasted 22 universal recommendations to get 1 additional consumable charge and -2% reload time of consumable???

I lost a gun duel againts a helena in a scharnhorst the american light cruisers really are good I lost because a hood came to save the helena it apeared out of no where lol.
Kinkaid is the better choice for light cruisers. Youll want to play defensive in these ships. Leave Scott on the heavy. I've got Helena up to 36.6 kts with extra sonar
I just got the Dallas at completing stage 12 of the new campaign. Also got a personal campaign mission that is good for 3 months. Its easy, win 5 games in AI battles or standard battles. You get doubloons for each win and 10 promotion orders when all complete
This ship is a citadel ship, citadeled him with my galassoniers a few minutes ago hahaha. But I don't like Dallas and Helena the, I would love to have the premium one
It's essentially an Atlanta with 6" guns. It was a design leading into the second flight Brooklyns. The Brooklyns were the base hull leading to the Wichita, then the treaty restrictions fell by the wayside and you got the various Clevelands and Baltimores with all their assorted subtypes.

I played the Cleveland a LOT on WOWS PC and it’s a fire setting monster. Can’t wait to unlock it in Legends.

Picked this up from my first crate last night! I like it. Put steering gears in and played it like an Algérie with good success

The Dallas is literally so fun and amazing. I got an average of 300k credits and 3 kills. Excellent AP shells and excellent HE.

Also try Madden out as an inspiration over Yamamoto, increases the firing rate even more.

I'm finding the Dallas very underwhelming, the guns don't make up for the lack of torps. Me been a traditionalist I hate these camos, so tacky.
