Holy shit, I didn't know you could highlight armours by skills at the smithy. The amount of time I've wasted going back and forth between armour sets... Thanks for the info.
Unfortunately most good skills on sets aren't easily divided into chest/waist and gloves/boots/helm so you dont get fairly coherent sets like mikumiku mi or baibai kaiser. You end up with stuff like waist and legs of one monster and three unrelated pieces now. Also only having 31 monsters and something like 40 armor sets really hinders good set making compared to 90+ in mh4u.
Tykras well to be honest in the previous games they could have all those monsters because they could easily implement monsters from previous title due to being similar , while in mhw they have to be remade from the ground up
When you play an unreasonable amount like me, it all comes down to slots. You have all the skills you could want on jewels, so armor is always beta and you have to choose if the 3 set bonuses are worth the sub-optimal skills. A great problem to have in a great game.
Side note if you don't think you'll remember the pieces to your custom set, you can add them to the wish list. Doing this will add a little symbol to the crafting list for those specific armour pieces which makes it much easier to locate. It's also a good way to keep track of the materials required to build the set

Same here, buddy. I refuse to wear mixed sets that look awful, regardless of how good the skills may be. Not like it's ever really mattered. Full Xeno set is quite neat for my insect glaive anyway.

Nia Tahl I use insect glaive sometimes too I’ll give it a try to the xeno set. I wish we could do like with the samurai set, to apply a specific look of a piece of armor you own to another one, pure cosmetic without loosing any stat or at least to change the color and not just some detail on it.
The Bow Sniper I have a slightly similar setup. Bazel helm, dober chest, bazel coil, nerg gloves, and dober boots with a level 3 attack charm. 7 attack, 4 earplugs, 2 challenger and some affinity.
Using long sword with Dragon king, Dober mail B, Kaiser Vambraces B, Nergigante coil B, Dober greaves B, and master charm, with some gems. Comes out to attack 7, Crit eye 4, weakness exploit 3, slugger 2, stamina thief 1, latent power 1. Works out well for me.

Those people saying that they don't like it when sets don't match.. its fine , once you reach a higher level, there will be more layered armor for you to choose from.
I tried to make a hell lot of sets for different weapon and play style, but after a hundred hours into the game, now I mainly use a fashion set with average skill against most monsters and only use a certain fugly set when I fight a tough tempered monster because I don't really care whether I clear the hunt in 5 minutes or 7 mintures

Once they Add the ability to Transmogrify armour, this will be so much better. Won't have to worry about how the Set looks, can just change it after ;P
Got a great, stylish, simple and effective GS set for you that I haven't seen yet. I've dubbed it Beastman: Bazel Helm B Dober Mail B Bazel Vambraces A Bazel Coil B Bazel Greaves A -Attack Charm Lv3 (max) -Great Wyvern Jawblade Right off the bat you get: Attack Boost Lv5 Earplugs Lv5 (max) Critical Draw Lv3 (max) Bombardier Lv2 And you get *FOUR* Lv3 jewel slots and TWO Lv1 slots. Use those Lv1s to max out Attack Boost to Lv7. if I ever find Critical Boost jewels you can bet that I'll be maxing it at Lv3 for +40% Crit Damage. Maybe I'll throw a Focus jewel in that last slot for some easier charged setups. This is THE endgame GS set, and you heard it here first folks (I think).
'Mixed Set Monday' wow right in the 3DS nostalgia feels.. Completely forgot about that series, looking forward to epic sets in MHW given mixes are definitely my jam so far.
This new armor skill system makes mix set building much easier and fun. I'm currently using zorah helmet and pink Ian waist for handicraft, and the rest is uragaan for that guard and guard up, finishing off with a guard charm so I can get guard 5, handicraft 2 and guard up, with a bunch of decoration slots (a double, a triple, and 3 singles) for customization. It's perfect for lancing, which is my main weapon.
I am really happy at how much customization and possibilities we got in the vanilla version of the game, imagine when more and more and more monsters get added down the line it will be glorious!!

im just in early high rank right now and I'm currently running a mixed set for power element charge blade it isn't perfect by any means, but its actually pretty good as long as you don't get hit. Rath Soul helm B Rathalos Mail B Rathalos vambraces A (isn't necessary to core build, just had extra rathalos bits) Anja coil A Anja Greaves A exploiter charm gives weakness exploit +3, Artillery +3, Fire Resist +3 (+2 without vambraces), Crit boost +1, attack boost +1 (+0 without vambraces), crit element, and adrenaline. A good replacement for the vambraces in this set would probably be Xeno'jiiva Claws A which would give you Crit boost +2 instead of +1 and also would give Flinch Free +1.
Another thing that might help you make your mixed sets is when you're in the forge equipment screen, you can press R2 a few times to switch to the skills tab on the right side of the screen. It'll show you all your currently equipped and previewed skills, and their levels in a little bit more of a visual list. It'll also show you exactly what skills you gain and what you lose when looking at different pieces in the menu by highlighting the skill in green or red. From there you can still hit the touch button to get a detailed explanation of your skills when you need. Having that list on the right really helped me out making my paralyze sword and shield set. My current loadout: -Rathalos Helm (B) -Rathalos Mail (B) -Kushala Grip (B) -Nergigante Coil (B) Legs have a ton of freedom, as the big "goals" I had with the set are done at this point. I went with a quality of life improvement, as I play Switch Axe. -Kushala Krus (B) -Evasion Charm (3) With this set including decorations I get: -Evade Window (5/5) -Attack Boost (5/7) (+1 decoration) -Weakness Exploit (3/3) (+1 decoration) -Evade Extender (2/3) -Rathalos Mastery (crit element) Utilizing gems, I put a Weakness exploit decoration in my gear to get 3/3, and I'm hoping to get an Evade Extender one soon as well. I put the attack boost decoration wherever it fits best. Other than that, my decorations aren't too great yet. I'm hoping to either max out attack boost via gemming or find Critical Eye gems. So far I've been using spare slots that I don't have good gems for to get whatever Element I'm using boosted up. For those who don't care about fashion or evade extender, the Dober Greaves (B) have attack boost 2 on them. Which gets you to 7/7 attack boost with only a single decoration, which neatly fits in said legs. As a bonus, the set doesn't look that bad. For those who lack a weakness exploit gem you can swap the legs from kushala to rathalos (A) and as a bonus you pick up Jump Master.

This Monster Hunter is so streamlined and amazing that I don't think I can ever go back to the classic MH system even MHXX if it went to NA. I know all the old schoolers will cry foul, as I am one myself. Once again, thanks for the awesome uploads, Arrekz.
If you're using sword and shield, spam the normal attack and move the analog stick in a another direction. It's like using a dual blade, best to do it when the monster is down.
Here is a mixed set for you to try, it’s the one I working towards: Head: dragon king alpha with tenderizer jewel Chest: Nergigante beta with might jewel and vit jewel Gloves: vaal beta with triple medicine jewels Belt: vaal beta with 2 vit jewel Legs: Nergigante beta with mighty jewel Amulet: handycraft 3 Weapons: any rank 6 or 7 with life steal/Regen augments preferably one with a slot for a sharp jewel
Free elemental/ammo up skill FTW, it unlocks the elemental damage on all those weapons that have that element/damage grayed out, so it's not usable, with this skill it is. It makes the highest level paralysis glaive (and I'm sure other weapons and other elements) amazing when you're actually able to unlock that element.
I personally like using the waist and legs of the sinister cloth set mixed with the arms, chest and helm of vaal hazak. It gives maximum Dragon attack boost while also giving super good recovery and a little bit of handicraft
I'm rocking Odagaron with a mix of alpha and beta and a specialist spectacles for max Affinity, high sharpening, and bleeding resistance with Wyvern Long Sword second to last rarity.

Exploit Critical Eye 7 Agitator 2 Mounting Master Plus 3 Lv. 1 Slots and a Lv. 2 Slot for extra skills I’m still experimenting on making a better set, but yeah better having high elemental damage in mid high rank is great since I use DB. I slotted 4 attack Decorations since that were the only ones I had.

I have a cant touch this set: Earplugs Charm +3 Dragonking Eye Patch Doara Chest Piece Alpha or Beta Doara Gloves Alpha Bazelguise Waist Alpha Doara Pants Alpha. You get +5 Earplugs, immunity to all roars. You get +3 Doara set bonus, immunity to all windpress. +4 hardicarft +2 weakness exploit. Also evade extender and Evade immunity extender +2. If you cant get the Charm +3 then you need to socket it into a lv3 socket weapon. If you really want to just ignore all the bullshit, you can wear Uraagan helmet and with 1 gem reach level 3 tremor resist. It will give you so much up time on all monsters. Ideally suited for Vaal Hazak, Diablos and Bazelguise weapons (to reach white sharpness). Also kindda work with Xeno'jiva weapons because you'd have white sharpness for days (and Xeno weapons have 2 lv3 sockets if you wana socket in more handicraft or other good skills).
The closest I've gotten to a mixed set so far is mixing the alpha and beta sets for the best looking armour and a good ratio of skills and gem slots My attack charm is currently my standard charm, occasionally gets swapped out for handicraft or blast attack
so here is a good coverall set i use when lazy... dragonking eye patch kushala b chest kushala a gloves bazelgeuse b waist kushala a legs earplug charm maxed, without using slots it has weakness exploit 2, kushala daora flight, handicraft 4, evade extender 2, evade window 2, earplugs 5, i usually gem in max tremor resist and cap my weakness exploit... figured this set might be useful to some ***Note***you can easily swap out the waist to cycle for other skills, i use uragaan b waist with a partbreaker charm if i want to focus on breakin stuff, nergigante b waist with attack charm etc hope this set can help
First mix set i made on this game was for GS Consisted in odogaron healm Nergigante chest Nergigante waist Odogaron arms And Nergigante leggins All were high rank Beta pieces
So after a bit of figuring out what I want to replace of my four pieces of Odogaron armor (I'm running the Dragonking Odogaron set that Arrekz made a video on, but I already intended before seeing this video to replace the Eyepatch with a Weakness Exploit charm since the charm would get me Level 3 WE, allowing me to replace the Eyepatch with a different helmet), I decided that I don't really need Protective Polish, leaving me with a Helmet and a pair of Boots to find, and after a really long time of debating I've come to this selection of gear: Boots: Dober Greaves Alpha: Attack Boost Level 2 and Stamina Surge Level 1 Kaiser Greaves Beta: Latent Power Level 2 and a Level 1 jewel slot Helmets: Rath Soul Helm Beta: Crit Boost Level 1, 2 Level 1 jewel slots Diablos Nero Helm Alpha: Focus Level 2 (this is handy because I'm almost always using either a Greatsword or Longsword) and a Level 1 jewel slot after some consideration I think I'm going to go with Rath Soul Helm Beta and Dober Greaves now to find jewels for the damn things... lol

I really hope grank comes out when pc releases cause the grank armor sets are usually much more flashy and customizable The armor sets for low and high ranking are beautiful but arent as fantasy like which is what I hope grank does for the game
Been using Legiana Helmet and Chestplate with Bazelgeuse for the rest. Guts + Divine Blessing 3 + Luck is a great combo for Bowgunners in the end game (Beat the final boss with it, not mentioning it's name for spoiler reasons of course).
Do you plan on creating a video related to status elements and also how much a monster is weak to a status ailment or element based on the number of stars they have in the hunters notes? Such as a monster that has 2 in fire weakness and 3 in ice weakness. How much does that mean its weak to fire over ice?
I used the baan beta waist with the bazel legs to get bombadier level 3. Then I gemmed into maintenance skill for the apothecary mantel. Max out that sleep element application
im pretty sure you need to buy cosmetics in the store..even deluxe edition comes with the samurai costume which is you actually, buy it.. i know content dlc is free but not cosmetics
I have simple mix set Dragonslayer helm, dober b top, odogaron a gloved, nergi b waist, dober b bottom, Master's Charm(max) It gives Lvl 6 Atk Boost Lvl 2 Weakness Exploit, Lvl 4 Critical Eye and have 4 slots I put 1 Atk Boost and 1 Weakness Exploit decoration to max out the skill :) If you want, change the gloves to Xeno a for Lvl1 Critical Boost but the Critical Eye will go down to Lvl3 EDIT: Its purely for very offensive playstyle it doest have any defense stuff so...

I tend to go for 3 pieces of daora for the nullify wind pressure and the two earplugs armor from bazel with an evade window +3 charm

The real endgame is finding mix sets that both give you good skills, and don't look like a fashion show threw up on your hunter.

Right off the bat you get:
Attack Boost Lv5

And you get *FOUR* Lv3 jewel slots and TWO Lv1 slots.
Use those Lv1s to max out Attack Boost to Lv7.
if I ever find Critical Boost jewels you can bet that I'll be maxing it at Lv3 for +40% Crit Damage.
Maybe I'll throw a Focus jewel in that last slot for some easier charged setups.
This is THE endgame GS set, and you heard it here first folks (I think).
You could just use Nerg's GS instead if you need that High elderseal, but the look was just meant for the jawblade imo

'Mixed Set Monday' wow right in the 3DS nostalgia feels.. Completely forgot about that series, looking forward to epic sets in MHW given mixes are definitely my jam so far.
This new armor skill system makes mix set building much easier and fun. I'm currently using zorah helmet and pink Ian waist for handicraft, and the rest is uragaan for that guard and guard up, finishing off with a guard charm so I can get guard 5, handicraft 2 and guard up, with a bunch of decoration slots (a double, a triple, and 3 singles) for customization. It's perfect for lancing, which is my main weapon.

gives weakness exploit +3, Artillery +3, Fire Resist +3 (+2 without vambraces), Crit boost +1, attack boost +1 (+0 without vambraces), crit element, and adrenaline.
A good replacement for the vambraces in this set would probably be Xeno'jiiva Claws A which would give you Crit boost +2 instead of +1 and also would give Flinch Free +1.

Another thing that might help you make your mixed sets is when you're in the forge equipment screen, you can press R2 a few times to switch to the skills tab on the right side of the screen. It'll show you all your currently equipped and previewed skills, and their levels in a little bit more of a visual list. It'll also show you exactly what skills you gain and what you lose when looking at different pieces in the menu by highlighting the skill in green or red. From there you can still hit the touch button to get a detailed explanation of your skills when you need.
Having that list on the right really helped me out making my paralyze sword and shield set. Hope that helps you too!

Legs have a ton of freedom, as the big "goals" I had with the set are done at this point. I went with a quality of life improvement, as I play Switch Axe.
-Kushala Krus (B)
-Evasion Charm (3)
With this set including decorations I get:
-Evade Window (5/5)
-Attack Boost (5/7) (+1 decoration)
-Weakness Exploit (3/3) (+1 decoration)
-Evade Extender (2/3)
-Rathalos Mastery (crit element)
Utilizing gems, I put a Weakness exploit decoration in my gear to get 3/3, and I'm hoping to get an Evade Extender one soon as well. I put the attack boost decoration wherever it fits best. Other than that, my decorations aren't too great yet. I'm hoping to either max out attack boost via gemming or find Critical Eye gems. So far I've been using spare slots that I don't have good gems for to get whatever Element I'm using boosted up.
For those who don't care about fashion or evade extender, the Dober Greaves (B) have attack boost 2 on them. Which gets you to 7/7 attack boost with only a single decoration, which neatly fits in said legs.
As a bonus, the set doesn't look that bad.
For those who lack a weakness exploit gem you can swap the legs from kushala to rathalos (A) and as a bonus you pick up Jump Master.
something about that clip of you fight tobi that the beginning with the sns and the beefy looking armor just amused me, like a sumo wrestle trying to fight with a steak knife.
This Monster Hunter is so streamlined and amazing that I don't think I can ever go back to the classic MH system even MHXX if it went to NA. I know all the old schoolers will cry foul, as I am one myself. Once again, thanks for the awesome uploads, Arrekz.

If you're using sword and shield, spam the normal attack and move the analog stick in a another direction. It's like using a dual blade, best to do it when the monster is down.
Would love if they made a option for skin set so a mixed set can look like a full set
Here is a mixed set for you to try, it’s the one I working towards:
Head: dragon king alpha with tenderizer jewel
Chest: Nergigante beta with might jewel and vit jewel
Gloves: vaal beta with triple medicine jewels
Belt: vaal beta with 2 vit jewel
Legs: Nergigante beta with mighty jewel
Amulet: handycraft 3
Weapons: any rank 6 or 7 with life steal/Regen augments preferably one with a slot for a sharp jewel

Nice tutorial man ! This vid help me out a lot. Very informative and well put together.
Free elemental/ammo up skill FTW, it unlocks the elemental damage on all those weapons that have that element/damage grayed out, so it's not usable, with this skill it is. It makes the highest level paralysis glaive (and I'm sure other weapons and other elements) amazing when you're actually able to unlock that element.

I personally like using the waist and legs of the sinister cloth set mixed with the arms, chest and helm of vaal hazak. It gives maximum Dragon attack boost while also giving super good recovery and a little bit of handicraft

You can get Bombadier lvl 3 from pulverising feather. It should help with making more space in the build for gems.

I would like to say that I have a nice GS set, Crit Draw 3, Focus 3, Tenderizer 2, and 7 tier 1 gem slots. The boots can be anything you want.

You get +5 Earplugs, immunity to all roars. You get +3 Doara set bonus, immunity to all windpress. +4 hardicarft +2 weakness exploit. Also evade extender and Evade immunity extender +2. If you cant get the Charm +3 then you need to socket it into a lv3 socket weapon. If you really want to just ignore all the bullshit, you can wear Uraagan helmet and with 1 gem reach level 3 tremor resist. It will give you so much up time on all monsters.
Ideally suited for Vaal Hazak, Diablos and Bazelguise weapons (to reach white sharpness). Also kindda work with Xeno'jiva weapons because you'd have white sharpness for days (and Xeno weapons have 2 lv3 sockets if you wana socket in more handicraft or other good skills).

So after a bit of figuring out what I want to replace of my four pieces of Odogaron armor (I'm running the Dragonking Odogaron set that Arrekz made a video on, but I already intended before seeing this video to replace the Eyepatch with a Weakness Exploit charm since the charm would get me Level 3 WE, allowing me to replace the Eyepatch with a different helmet), I decided that I don't really need Protective Polish, leaving me with a Helmet and a pair of Boots to find, and after a really long time of debating I've come to this selection of gear:
Boots:
Dober Greaves Alpha: Attack Boost Level 2 and Stamina Surge Level 1
Kaiser Greaves Beta: Latent Power Level 2 and a Level 1 jewel slot
Helmets:
Rath Soul Helm Beta: Crit Boost Level 1, 2 Level 1 jewel slots
Diablos Nero Helm Alpha: Focus Level 2 (this is handy because I'm almost always using either a Greatsword or Longsword) and a Level 1 jewel slot
after some consideration I think I'm going to go with Rath Soul Helm Beta and Dober Greaves

The armor sets for low and high ranking are beautiful but arent as fantasy like which is what I hope grank does for the game
Made an extremely blast heavy bazelgeuse long sword set and I love it
Been using Legiana Helmet and Chestplate with Bazelgeuse for the rest. Guts + Divine Blessing 3 + Luck is a great combo for Bowgunners in the end game (Beat the final boss with it, not mentioning it's name for spoiler reasons of course).
Do you plan on creating a video related to status elements and also how much a monster is weak to a status ailment or element based on the number of stars they have in the hunters notes? Such as a monster that has 2 in fire weakness and 3 in ice weakness. How much does that mean its weak to fire over ice?
I used the baan beta waist with the bazel legs to get bombadier level 3. Then I gemmed into maintenance skill for the apothecary mantel. Max out that sleep element application

It's funny I recently commented asking about creating a sleep bombing set and this video comes out as if to answer it.
I have simple mix set
Dragonslayer helm, dober b top, odogaron a gloved, nergi b waist, dober b bottom, Master's Charm(max)
It gives Lvl 6 Atk Boost Lvl 2 Weakness Exploit, Lvl 4 Critical Eye and have 4 slots
I put 1 Atk Boost and 1 Weakness Exploit decoration to max out the skill :)
If you want, change the gloves to Xeno a for Lvl1 Critical Boost but the Critical Eye will go down to Lvl3
EDIT: Its purely for very offensive playstyle it doest have any defense stuff so...
