My Mom went to Freeport High School and I can confirm that they are, in fact, the pretzels. LOL! And she was a cheerleader so her and her friend to pretzel's cheers at Thanksgiving or Christmas (whichever holiday we get together that year). I showed this to her and it made her so happy that the world was finally learning about the Freeport Pretzels! LOL. You made her day :)

Our high school mascot was the Pointer (dog) and I graduated in 01 so there was a lot of Who Let The Dogs Out dancing. Once the other team also had a dog mascot and it got confusing when both sets of cheerleaders danced when it came on. (She said, as if she went to more than two games ever.)
Also Wheaton College voted on a new mascot back when my brother was there his freshman year. They narrowed it down to either the Wheaton Mastodons (because they have a mastodon skeleton, that I’m pretty sure was found in the area) or the Wheaton Thunder. Naturally instead of the awesome, boss looking creature with giant tusks, they went with something that has really no visual representation and became the Wheaton Thunder. Not sure if they have a costume/mascot?
there was a high school in my town with a canary as their mascot, and my college one is a redbird but in the 80’s the mascot was made of paper mache and he was terrifying

about a year ago when I was in college, the school held a women's NCAA basketball tournament and my friends and I were in the locker room for the the gym (since the school's gym was in the same building as the basketball court) and the Syracuse orange walked in and scared the living shit out of us since they came out of nowhere. The person was scared too since my friend screamed and ran out immediately. When we were done with the locker room we walked out and it scared us AGAIN by coming out of the men's locker room sooo my experience with the Syracuse orange was frightening.
