    What this series has taught me is that canadian home inspectors must have a great pay off side business.

      It isn't necessarily a racket, but they pair up with a realtor or two, and they bust them out. Since the realtor recommends their guy, the buyer usually accepts. This particular problem isn't only a problem in Canada, let me tell you

      @djohnsto2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lots of technically-minded retired people certify as home inspectors via e-learning. They are cheaper to hire. If you are taking on a potentially high-risk property, a professional general contracting consultant is the way to go - Someone who's spent years in the trades in your jurisdiction and has seen it all.

    ok this reminds me of jacking up a mobile home over my head and i'm 6 ft tall my dad and myself was always on pins and needles when we had to do it and the customer got charged for the extra height because it is that stressful only one time we called in a crane company to lift the house up on pylons sense we were not jacking that one up we didn't charge them any thing over 4 feet of the ground it gets very dangerous i've seem a 30'000 lb home actual roll up hill

    It looks like a really cool house. Mike needs to find a good crane to support the addition.

    @14:40: They replaced rigid aluminum venting pipe with flex pipe? Seems worse.

      I think that was a stainless steel flex, it should outlast the other by decades.

    What's the point of moving the air conditioner? There's no 'air intake' with the air conditioner. It's not going to be sucking in anything from those exhausts.

    • @JeffDeWitt

      It's speed up to get past the copyright check. Play at .75 and it will sound normal.

  • @tamsterroni73
    @tamsterroni73 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why do you speed up video?

    • @JeffDeWitt
      @JeffDeWitt ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To fool the TH-cam's copyright protection. Play it back at .75 speed and it's fine.

  • @j81851
    @j81851 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think the production company that produced this must have gotten a deal with a local punk rock band. Got to be the WORST background music in TV history. Otherwise excellent!

  • @johnhermanson5249

    Love Mike Holmes, wish every contractor was like him. This sped-up version is unwatchable. Bad washed out color too.

    • @ronbennett7885
      @ronbennett7885 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's intentional for it to remain up. Slow the speed down to .75 and it's fine.

    Everyone gets mad at the home inspector.. well, you do know that you can take that report and do a visual too to verify the report.

    • @mujkocka
      @mujkocka 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      He/she was paid though. The quality of a professional is hard to judge by someone not in the trade. The problem is the hiring manage I.e. home owner cannot judge such quality. These guys are charging the same rate but obviously they are not the same. If I know the problem why even bother hiring these inspectors?

    • @FZR650
      @FZR650 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Derek Charette you have major problems... seek help!

    • @ronbennett7885
      @ronbennett7885 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Often the home inspector recommended by the real estate agent won't look too hard beyond noting some small stuff that's easily fixed. Generally better to hire an inspector independently. Also, in many places, most anyone can be a home inspector even if they have little to no experience in the building trades. Home inspection is better than nothing, but often provides false security unless one does, as you suggest, and looks deep into the report and verifies various things themselves.

      What's the point of hiring the guy if you can see the problems yourself?
