- We're installing a NEW car stereo receiver / double-in headunit on our Lexus IS300 build! This is the first time I've every upgraded a car stereo on any of my project cars - hopefully installing the double-din stereo on our 1st Gen Lexus IS300 project car will result in much better bass, cleaner highs, and a lot more functionality, including bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, hands free in-car microphone, GPS navigation, and more. It was a difficult decision how to pick an upgraded stereo for our Lexus IS, having narrowed down aftermarket car receiver options from Crutchfield to JVC, Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer, Kicker, Rockford Fosgate, and more... The 2003 Lexus IS300 is our 3rd project car, and newest Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) legend to the channel. Did you know that the Lexus IS300 SportCross shares the same 2JZ engine block with the MK4 (A80) Toyota Supra Turbo! This is not just any 1st generation Lexus IS300, but the limited production SportCross (aka Toyota Gita)! Subscribe to follow our 2003 Lexus IS300 SportCross restoration and car modification journey. We'll be restoring the Toyota Altezza to its original Lexus OEM condition, then look to install and dyno test various high performance Lexus IS300 modifications, walking through how-to mod installs, Lexus IS300 maintenance tutorials, and taking the car to the dyno to test horsepower and torque, and finding out how much horsepower the Lexus IS300 mods add, modifications such as an Lexus air intake, exhaust, headers / downpipe, Lexus 2JZ-GE turbo. upgrade, ecu tune, etc. Oh, and don't worry, our 2019 Honda Accord 2.0 Touring project car (10th Gen Honda Accord) and MKV Toyota GR Supra isn't going anywhere (well, not just yet)!

Stereos bring me back 🤣 I remember they stole my brothers stereo out his 97 accord while at the mall.
Do you remember how they could slide out of their housing so you could take it with as theft protection, before the moved to the detachable face plate ? 😁
I love that you posted this. I’m familiar with this territory, but it’s great to see. I just purchased an IS300, and will be upgrading the radio. However, I opted for a floating 9-inch scream head unit from Pioneer.
And I agree with the push start comment. I have multiple vehicles and often find myself in the ones with an actual key, trying to push start. 😂
😂. It happens all the time. I switch between cars too often for me to get used to having to use the key 🤷♂️. Will you be using an external amp? Is so, which one?
@@TheLemonFactor - I am doing a full install, replacing all of the factory speakers with Alpine S2 components in the front and S2, 6x9 by in the back. A small sealed enclosure for JL Audio W3v3; for my amplifiers, I’m using a Kenwood KAC-314 and an Excelon XR 600-1 for the subwoofer. I have been partial to these amplifiers for years because of their low and slim profile. Run them on various vehicles, and they perform wonderfully.

Thanks for the video i recently picked one up too not the sportcross one but im sure its the same speaker setup im getting close to wanting to upgrade the head unit and speakers they are really showing their age.

Are your rear speakers providing sound after changing head unit?
I’ve replaced the headunit in mine, bypassing and removing the OEM amp, but the rear OEM speakers and subwoofer no longer provide sound.
I’m not sure as I have the soundstage focused upfront. With that said, I don’t notice a noticeable lack of sound from the rear 🤷♂️
Yes, I can confirm that the rear speakers are providing sound.

I have not removed the OEM amp.
Did you add a camera or?
The prior owner added the backup camera 👍
I also have a Sportcross and I installed a new radio, did an amp delete, but no sound comes out the rear speakers. Do your rear speakers still work?
I honestly haven’t checked the rears since the install as I’ve been focused on the front soundstage. I’ll have to check it out 🤔. Did you do the amp bypass because you’re working off an external amp?
