So many “trends” are created and promoted by designers, at the request of brands, to specifically sell dirt-cheap synthetic-fiber materials. This last year’s sheers, lace and mesh fabrics, for example, were all polyester crap. I won’t wear any synthetic fibers or other plastics, as in footwear. Even in blends, my skin can’t take it and I overheat, plastics aren’t reasonable fibers for wear on a real body that sweats and moves around. We might as well wear garbage bags, they have the same (lack of) breathability. As for color “trends”, these are designed so that brands can produce more limited color options. I hate them because they reduce the availability of other colors we might like better. Like this year’s peach, I really hate it and it will prevent any light pink, which I do like, being offered. A quick look at any fast-fashion site shows its trends are in polyester or acrylic, in one “trendy” color and the ubiquitous, grim black, which I also hate. Brands hire designers to try to control what we buy, and therefore how we look and feel. It took me 25 years to find a pair of navy leather boots and a pair of dark brown ones, the only options were black or tan/cognac. I’m sick of those huge market manipulators, so I avoid mainstream/high street brands. Try as we might, these fake brand-created trends are forced upon us every time we need to buy something.

You have touched on so many things but I couldn't agree more! The whole idea of trends is to power irresponsible consumerist behaviours and as a designer myself I feel the need to speak about it and promote the mindful way of observing trends without supporting overconsumption and loosing money for stuff that will go out of style in few weeks and the buyers will no longer enjoy or use!

I wear “no pants” all the time: they’re called skirts. I can’t believe brands expect us to want to go out in public in panties. Vote with your walkers, ladies, just don’t buy this crap.

No pants?! Why can't we bring back modesty?

I feel like this will be a really short lived trend I don't see it staying for long. If not because of aesthetics then for sure due to lack of functionality!

I can see this working with a very long shitt sweater dress which is long enough to cover your butt. I’m with you on the modesty thing - some of these new trends are wild
