I am coming from umvc3 and love your guides but wondered if all of these combos, even the suboptimal routes like at 4:48, had any properties that were good for meter gain. I guess the question is should damage at all times be the optimal route or are there ever any reasons to utilize different combos for meter gain. Thanks for this. Slowly crawling my way to Platinum 5 and beyond (started at gold 2 three weeks ago)
That combo specifically, no, but the corner combos that involve charged crouch HP after OD Superman punch definitely can be used to gain extra meter. Usually you want to pick the combo that does the most damage while still having good oki.
@@ZachHenkeright on. Thats why i like marisa because her big muscles equate to big damage. Right on Ill be referring to this guide for all my matchups thanks and be well.
Great video. For me the drive rush section for specific oki situations definitely got me thinking about new things to try. Tbh marisa’s oki is my favorite part of her game … especially since a baited dp is 💀
Another crucial knockdown using your +38 rule is MP Air to Air I get those a lot in the corner that drive rush hold HP is going to setup either a heavy combo command grab or decent chip
And sorry I keep commenting on the video I have to talk about this…… I was getting whooped my a manon the other day and her crazy command grab oki…. The worst part is that I let her get all five medals in the first round on multiple occasions…. Was wondering if you are still in the works with more match ups Ik u did guile and lily’s di trap…..
I will eventually, but probably not until after Capcom cup just because I think there will be a balance patch. Her oki from command grab really isn’t that good. She can’t really threaten another one.
Worth a title and thumbnail change this one I think mate. Maybe compendium is too much of a difficult word for the masses... Anyway I came here for a question....have you got a flowchart? Do you use one?
You’re probably right about that. And no, I don’t use a flowchart. Stuff like that prevents you from engaging with your opponent like they’re a thinking being. In a world where everyone is playing (Pareto) optimally there would be a correct mathematical mixture of strategies i.e. grab x% of the time and strike (1-x)% of the time. Since people aren’t playing with a proper mathematical mixture I think it’s best to think about the type of person that they are and use that to make decisions about what I believe they’ll do next.
@@ZachHenke I hear you but it kinda is like learning your combos isn't it? So you can think faster. You know that when they start jump you have three routes to go down and you know the options along those routes. So theoretically you can think faster than having to think in the moment and recall what has happened in the match up to that point and where you are at thatbpoint. Instead you have a framework/process that frees up a percentage of your mental stack for other stuff? I.e. You only have to think of three or four things at any one time instead of like 20. I mean, I have to land my combos before I start thinking about flowcharts but I can see the benefits at a higher level. Surely the pros use them?
I guess it depends what you mean by flowchart. For me it’s very much “oh, he started parrying, that’s interesting”. But I don’t have a decision tree that says “if he parries on this knockdown do x on next knockdown”. I want to use all the information I have about a player. Somebody that plays passively is waking up with parry to be defensive, so I won’t be afraid of them on wake-up. If a player is a little more aggressive and wakes up with parry I assume they’re fishing for perfect parry as an offensive option. Against that player I’ll be more aware of wake-up DP/super. Basically, not every parry is created equal, and this applies to other options as well.

@@ZachHenke hmm OK. I'll go down the playbook route I think. Have a few gameplans that I fall back on similar to your last comment.
