Erm, actually, according to the first game's almanac entry on Snorkel Zombies, zombies do not need to breathe, Snorkelers only use the snorkels because of peer pressure. In Heroes, the Snorkel Zombie's description says he can breathe out just fine but is having trouble breathing in.
