Hold on epic fired all the stw devs do you have an article to prove that ? Cuz peter ellis was one of the creative leader of fortnite and left epic a few month ago
i wasn't an alpha tester but i did get the game in july 2017 when it was in the beta phase afaik, the fortnite bootup screen was similar, and the global chat was still relatively active. i miss how interactive and distinct the UI looked and felt. i spent a lot of time playing around that time, it's pretty disappointing to come back to the game and see everything related to the UI and charm of the original game essentially wiped in place of a "modernized" version you can see in BR. hell, even logging in to StW requires you to look for it in the massive jumbled collection of games rather than it being a separate mode like it was. it feels more like an extension of BR than it does it's own game, and its really unfortunate they haven't put any more effort into it in a few years. thank you for this footage, never thought i'd see the "global chat" tab again lol. i still have some honey and 6 star materials in my storage :p what could be made with honey in the alpha?
I love BR, but at this point it really feels like a cash in. It’s ruined the feel of the game. Remember the old mode select screen? Gone. Old UI? Gone. Old Movement? Gone. Not that all of these changes are bad (movement for one is better than it’s ever been right now) but logging in to save the world just feels like a relic of the past right now.
People toss the term "OG" around obnoxiously but you sir are a real Fortnite veteran. Thank you for uploading this, I never participated in any closed alpha and got into save the world pretty late, but I’m fascinated by the history of it. It’s so cute to see epic employees just typing in the global chat as well. The fortnite team used to be so close with their playerbase, even when battle royale released they were. But somewhere after mid-late 2018 they never really kept doing it. I remember when epic used to make videos discussing updates with members of their team, or little podcasts, I miss that man, it can make the game feel so much more special.
I wish people gave this game a chance back in the day. The player count I've seen today for STW is 70 thousand (probably due to the hype for Season OG and Xbox Game Pass), but that's still lackluster compared to the on average BR's 2.5~ million spread across the various modes. Epic Games have more than enough money, time and developers to finish the Twine Peaks storyline but they just don't care anymore, the team allocation for STW has shrunken dramatically, so much so that exploits which hamper server load aren't patched right away like they are in BR because they literally don't have the resources to prioritise things like that. It's nice you found this footage, thanks.
If Epic added save the world to Xbox game pass, it could probably double players, that’s a whole PC and console player base, or if they just made it free. It could easily break 150k active daily. I don’t know why they don’t do it, epic games has so much money, if they made it free, and gave the save the world team even a little of what BR makes, they would be able to do so much and keep up the game. A couple million would bring voice actors, developers and give the team enough to continue. But seriously, what’s the risk in making it free for epic? They would just need to add microtransactions again, which they could bring back founders packs and weapon starter packs or whatever.
@RamiCrafy STW isn't confusing at all compared to pretty much any other game within the genre, I'd even say it's super simple compared to most. Regardless, there are great videos out there that should help you.

I started playing StW back in 2018. Seeing this old footage is so cool and really shows us how far the game has progressed. Even though I wasn't an Alpha Tester, hearing this soundtrack made me nostalgic for some reason. I wish they kept some really awesome things like the sound track (I think it fits StW perfectly) and the UI as well. Unfortunately it seems as StW doesn't get as much love nowadays and is simply now considered a game mode for BR.
Man. I never played this version of save the world. But, i dont know the feeling that it gives me watching this. Its like nostalgia from a distant memory that never happened. Like, just looking at this makes me feel so good but so sad at the same time. Their was so many features I would of loved to see on modern STW. These graphics man, and the music makes me almost want to cry. I dont know what to say but thank you
Microtransactions and confusing bureaucracy were there from the start, and actual gameplay only begins at the 10:40 mark... yep, the signs were all there in plain sight
It’s interesting how they had a visual representation for the survivor squads seemingly that could be upgraded on their own. I kind of wish they adapted that into save the world today it would be a much more satisfying and intuitive way of conveying survivor squads (I think that’s what they’re called idk)
Even though I started playing Save the World really late (2021 as they never made the game free to play like they stated back in BR season 3-6 they’d do) I do find some of the goofiness and art style of the mode intriguing and been wanting to find more about it. This video with the HQ sfx on base manual upgrades just has so much more charm into it. A shame they never kept it in for the long run, I would’ve loved to have played this era if I knew the game existed, but I lived in a house that didn’t really have much internet at all so I’ll take what I can get. Somehow, I still find modern StW funny for some of the mission stories, so the game mode definitely had good moments Nowadays, I just look for the jankiness in Save the World that makes the game a bit broken and a mess still, but has a little bit of the past still. Just very little, too much has changed, and definitely not as great as it used to be, but I’ll try to play the series again because I missed it. Interesting that people I work with at my job were there since Battle Royale Season 0, so I might get a chance to take a look at double elemental weapons and other unique things the game no longer has around and I missed out on

downloaded this game spring 2017, i remember buying the early access just to try it. i had no clue what to do. didn’t really get back into STW until BR dropped. great vid btw
Something about those aestethics man... Holy shit... The game took such a 180 the other way that I genuienly think something internally happened that made devs leave/change of lead. There is no way such a game can change so hard. If you have a fundamental idea; you build and iterate on it. You don't change the fundamental idea itself. That did absolutely not happen with Fortnite.
thank you for posting this. ive been so obsessed with old fortnite this past year, its just so fascinating to see how its changed. ive never once seen the homebase from pre-release (is that the right word?) and now i finally have. i hope we can get the 2011 builds one day, id love to see stuff like limbo
im a founder of stw who started playing in 2018, its crazy to see how much stw has changed from this although i like the design in the alpha, i personally like the new ui
its so sad to see fortnite from back then and now.. I mean i played battle royale since season 1 but save the world since 2016 and i find it sad what happend to stw. Epic Games just started simple with a Pve zombie game and then went the hype with battle royale (also not that bad my op..) but just left their Pve game abandoned with about 50-200k player at that time, also the "free" version for the Pve that never came lol
Now I may not be an Alpha tester of any sort, as I have started in mid to late 2018 with Save The World (shortly before the removal of the ‘Skill Tree’ and other things). Seeing this, not only does it make me feel so nostalgic, but also the happiness to see how the game was back then. Thank you
16:46 crazy to think that fortnite settings used to look like your average low player count steam game. This game has gotten a long way and Im so proud of epic
One change I do appreciate In STW these days Is the X-ray llamas and replacing the Vbuck option with X ray tickets. Everything else could've stayed the same but they went for a more streamlined route, especially when they took away the skill tree for good. I still remember that thing In 2018 during S5 before the change.
I'm just wondering do you still have this build saved (Online Test 6.7) on your PC? We could use it for our archive. We only have Online Test 6.5 for alpha fortnite
it's so sad to me just how much of this is gone... like it's so in depth and all seems so close to done i don't understand why they'd go with such a more simple and less stylized feel
Man I really love and appreciate STW. Chapter 1 had such an amazing vibe to it because it used a lot of it's asset's from save the world, and same with chapter 2 but not as prominent
A game about zombie survival and building epic bases to complete missions and "Save the world" somehow turned into the multiverse, and the game now is trying to be as realistic as possible...
I really like the survivor squads at 2:30 I've always wished that I could explore Homebase and see my survivor squads and heroes in an interactive 3D environment, It would make what your fighting for more tangible and important.
I wish this game kept its 2013 aesthetic and vibe along with everything that came along with it. I feel now everything in stw doesnt fit the orginal vision it had and is more of a "glorified" mobile game, its still a deep game with lots of depth but i feel like they strayed away from its original "survival" type of gameplay.
Even the menus and navigation look like as if they were completely gutted compared to this. Battle Royale took this game on a completely different route but I wonder sometimes what it would have looked like if Save the World was the one that took off with the same level of success What would the entire gaming landscape look like then
i just noticed something around 10:54-55 exactly for a few secs, FORTNITE WAS ON STEAMMM DURING THE ALPHAA?????? edit: plus the steam fps counter on the top right
They just really dumbed down the mode over time to where it feels like several steps back compared to what it used to be. Epic will try ANYTHING to put the final nail in STWs coffin.
It's crazy that the map screen feels so much more lively and feature rich than what we got in the end, what happened? how did they go backwards in the end?

downloaded this game spring 2017, i remember buying the early access just to try it. i had no clue what to do. didn’t really get back into STW until BR dropped. great vid btw
Something about those aestethics man... Holy shit... The game took such a 180 the other way that I genuienly think something internally happened that made devs leave/change of lead. There is no way such a game can change so hard. If you have a fundamental idea; you build and iterate on it. You don't change the fundamental idea itself. That did absolutely not happen with Fortnite.
thank you for posting this. ive been so obsessed with old fortnite this past year, its just so fascinating to see how its changed. ive never once seen the homebase from pre-release (is that the right word?) and now i finally have. i hope we can get the 2011 builds one day, id love to see stuff like limbo
i thought this was a private server till i saw the global chat and description. its crazy how much of a different vibe this game had back then
They almost scrapped the entire game atp 😭
Game looked so different back then and it gives of a nostalgic vibe and eerie but good feeling
im a founder of stw who started playing in 2018, its crazy to see how much stw has changed from this
although i like the design in the alpha, i personally like the new ui
its so sad to see fortnite from back then and now..
I mean i played battle royale since season 1 but save the world since 2016 and i find it sad what happend to stw.
Epic Games just started simple with a Pve zombie game and then went the hype with battle royale (also not that bad my op..) but just left their Pve game abandoned with about 50-200k player at that time, also the "free" version for the Pve that never came lol
wait you played in 2016? do you still have the game build or any files if you did?
The old map where you pick your mission is way better than what we have now! I absolutely love the look of this!!
It's a shame how much they ruined it
@@FOAMYCHIMERA461What? The new settings menu is definitely better in my opinion, much less cramp and easier to navigate.
@rakesiar imo its always had a bad settings menu
@@FOAMYCHIMERA461 it looks good now
THAT is the essence of 2010-2017 I swear it has that feeling to it and the music is just omg
why did the game look better back then
It had a lot of charm
Cus it had actual artstyle
The music is just so beautiful...
so sad. this game could have been so much more
The Fort map looks so clean, feel sad about they removed it
One change I do appreciate In STW these days Is the X-ray llamas and replacing the Vbuck option with X ray tickets.
Everything else could've stayed the same but they went for a more streamlined route, especially when they took away the skill tree for good.
I still remember that thing In 2018 during S5 before the change.
I think we found one of the TRUE OGs
Yep
The music is so relaxing...
18:05 well they predicted pubg
I will never forgive epic for cutting off STW and leaving its concluding storyline on a cliffhanger
that old survivor squads screen had so much flair too it, i dont know why they changed it from being an awesome town area to just a screen...
This Lobby is so much better, i want it back now!!!
I'm just wondering do you still have this build saved (Online Test 6.7) on your PC? We could use it for our archive. We only have Online Test 6.5 for alpha fortnite
Unfortunately I don't have any files left. Would have loved to contribute them tho
@@jonasmg That’s ok bro
it's so sad to me just how much of this is gone... like it's so in depth and all seems so close to done i don't understand why they'd go with such a more simple and less stylized feel
Bro why they removed this "manual upgrade HQs"? This is soooo cool
Yeah they had a lot of cool tech trees they cut down to more streamlined progression :(
@@jonasmg Things like this would make the game much better. I really like Save The World but it's a bit repetitive.
@@Jaimekk gotta agree on that, the damage scaling for anything other than soldier is also wack
Man I really love and appreciate STW. Chapter 1 had such an amazing vibe to it because it used a lot of it's asset's from save the world, and same with chapter 2 but not as prominent
This game has so much potential. I wonder if they will release a battle royale for this game.
A game about zombie survival and building epic bases to complete missions and "Save the world" somehow turned into the multiverse, and the game now is trying to be as realistic as possible...
Wtf this looks really cool
Also I don't think it's just you that UI is way better, everything is just so much more stylized and just awesome
This game looked so much cleaner back then bro, I rmemeber playing this game in 2018
Still playing save the world to this day but damn it's like a totally different game back then !! Thank you so much for sharing. ❤
We can thank save the world for the music design and also fantastic art style
When the game was about building forts instead of 5 star mansions in 3 seconds
bro waited in the loading screen for an entire year haha
I really like the survivor squads at 2:30 I've always wished that I could explore Homebase and see my survivor squads and heroes in an interactive 3D environment, It would make what your fighting for more tangible and important.
Miss this Time of fortnite
2017 was peak
Oh wow! I played fortnite for a long time, but I never knew someone playing fortnite before release (September 2017)
If Valve ever made a TF 3, this better be the UI or I will cry blood.
That corner piece in the outpost messed with me.
11:27 first ever wiener in fortnite lol
Even the menus and navigation look like as if they were completely gutted compared to this. Battle Royale took this game on a completely different route but I wonder sometimes what it would have looked like if Save the World was the one that took off with the same level of success What would the entire gaming landscape look like then
Fortnite save the world will be the original fortnite forever
Fortnite chapter 1 too
@@exodusday8761nope that is br not the same
@exodusday8761 this is years before chapter 1,making it seem like it's new compared to og stw
crazy how alpha stw had a more cohesive and better ux then now
microtransactions in the alpha build is hilarious
11:29 Stw players havent matured in any way
Better than now
The old soundtrack is such a banger 🔥
I wish people would believe me that i started during Alpha 😩 with my cousin
you have the rarest cosmetic in the game if you did participate in at least one of the alpha test, its a homebase banner
This is what Fortnite should have been and they should have kept the STW alive. So much potential lost in my opinion.
Only true OGs will know that this gamemode is the heart and soul of Fortnite until this day.
Bro old map view was crazy I want that back
i just noticed something around 10:54-55 exactly for a few secs, FORTNITE WAS ON STEAMMM DURING THE ALPHAA??????
edit: plus the steam fps counter on the top right
And to this day, save the world still has the same music
Sadly not everything was replaced
1:05 love this HUD, but maybe it's just because i really like all of these space types of UI (for some reason it gives me nostalgia lol)
10:55, wait, it was on Steam back then??
No, he added Epic Games Launcher to Steam and used the Steam Overlay. Pause at 22:28
epic 2018: save the world will be free this year!
Seeing this now is crazy, now different the alpha build of Fortnite was compared to now.
Sad to see that this mode is being pushed away
1:08 “Twine Peaks” twin peaks reference 😮
The true og
I miss this a lot
idk but the main menu kinda looks like team fortress 2 menu somehow
