Do you have an explanation for why the rod bearing pressures are reducing at high RPM in your instrumented crankshaft? Is this the effect of increased centripetal forces fighting the oil flow through the crankshaft oil passages?
I recently bought a 76 Chevy truck. It started knocking. #1 and #2 rod bearings had major offset wear to one side of the lower cap bearing. I'm thinking great it has bent rods. But no, it was something much stupider and totally avoidable. I was already set to buy new rods but out of habit I ran a fine file across the face of the rod parallel to the bearing opening, nothing bad. When I separated the cap from the rod and ran the file across the jointing surface between the cap and rod, bingo. It had a lip from some moron using a screwdriver to pry the caps off.
Good Morning from Australia. First I have a hyundai 2012 ix35 with petrol theta 2 direct injection motor. The car has only travelled 75000 km from new serviced 12 monthly at about every 8000km. In November 2021 the engine started knocking so I took it to Hyundai who investigated the knocking and informed me the engine had suffered a catastrophic engine failure and big end or bottom end bearing on no.3 cylinder had failed. Hyundai Australia refuses to accept liability for this failure and the matter is now before the civil administration tribunal. I have been asked by the convener of the tribunal to prove what caused the bearing failure and that the failure was caused during the manufacturing process. I still have access to the car and the engine, however the oil has been drained. I believe it maybe partly disassembled however not completely. I have spoken to a number of mechanical engineers in Australia who have told me that if the bearing has failed it is impossible to identify the cause of the failure and this leaves me unable to prove to the tribunal, a. what caused the failure and b. that the failure was a result of the manufacturing process. I do know that 1.4 million vehicles with the theta 2 direct injection motor produced by Kia and hyundai in USA have also suffered with this issue and there maybe documents that are avaliable stating the cause of these failures which caused the recall. However I have not been able to locate this information is there anything I can do to prove the points requested by the tribunal or is my case a lost cause. please Help. I do have access to a workshop and could continue to pull the engine down to reveal the other bearings, caps and con rods.
I feel like this would of been a better video without the goofball in the black shirt. This actually has a lot of good information in it but why muddy it up with fruit cake humor.
Glad I got to see this presentation live a few weeks back.
