I'm trying to connect my Hill line with the Carter family of Lancaster/Middlesex counties and possibly of the Shirley Plantation. My direct paternal ancestor, John Hill "Of Northumberland" married Elizabeth Martin, daughter of Nicholas Martin, in Lancaster County, 1733. We have found a couple of Carter/Hill DNA matches. One match was a Y DNA match, which is passed down from father to son, meaning that this Carter researcher actually had a Hill paternal ancestor, through adoption or non-paternal event. This researcher looks to have been descended from the William Carter/Mary Goodloe family of Middlesex county. I'm hoping to visit Virginia again soon to do more research. Thank you for this informative video.

I'm working on my ancestors and and I have a Thomas Carter and a Henry Skipwith Carter but I don't know if I am on the right path. I hope so. I found you unexpectedly. My great grandmother who is black married a Daniel Carter. They lived in Marion, SC. I will keep searching and hope to find a truth. Thanks

I am looking for Johnny (John A. ) Carter from Virginia (not sure what area). They left Virginia in late 1700S -early 1800s. Moved to North Carolina for a while before moving to Georgia (Jasper co.). While living in Virginia there was a family of Phelps that was neighbors. In Georgia Johnny married Avie Rilla (Avrilla) McMichael. Their daughter Nancy, married Jim Phelps. A son of Augustus Phelps that was a neighbor to the Caters in Virginia.

This is interesting. I'm a direct descendant of Thomas Carter of Crotomon Barford on my Granddaddy's side.

I am descended from Solomon Carter, born 1825. Am trying to figure out which Thomas Carter he is related to because the information I got from Ancestry was misleading and confusing.

He was born in 1725, not 1825
