    I appreciate his views on traveling light and not needing a full giant ghillie suit. Parse it down to the necessities.. Its easy to over-kit. Wheb humans see "human" they are usually picking up the head/shoulder shape, faces, and bare skin.
    End note: This is gonna be a fantastic series. Thanks guys.

    Tosh mentioned that he uses an MOA Range Estimation formula because it's easier for him, because he thinks in inches. As an America, I also think in inches when I'm estimating the size of objects, but all my rifles use Mils. All I need to do is to change the Constant and the formula gives me the range in meters, which closely correlates to mil adjustments. FORMULA: Size of the Target in Inches multiplied by A Constant of 25.4 = range to target in meters

    • @BJE0719
      @BJE0719 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That’s not the formula. You’re missing a critical step. You need to “mil” the target aka use your scope, binos, monocular etc. to see the size of the target in mils. Then you take their size in inches X 25.4 (for meters) or 27.78 (for yards) / size in mils = target distance.
      Example:
      A target with a known height of 68” appears as 4.5 mils in height on your scope
      (68in x 25.4) / 4.5mils = 383.82 meters

    • @kraagnjilwulf1413
      @kraagnjilwulf1413 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why wouldn't you just put the target height in yards and use the mil formula. You'd get distance to target in yards. There's no real drawback to that if you're familiar with the imperial system.
      Also, that's not a working formula.

    My favorite quick rule of thumb is 500/mils the shoulders fit in the reticle = distance to target in yards. So if someones shoulders(roughly 18") fit in 1/2 mil in my scope, that dummy is about 1000 yards away. 500/.5 = 1000. 27.7 x 18" =500 is where that number comes from. Thank you for the great video. Total respect for you fellow sailors. Watched you guys train in Coronado while they were trying to drown me in the scuba pool.

    I use the Mildot Master, so much easier if my range finder isn't working. The internal card can be flipped to either yards or meters, so I use a Mil-radian radical. If you know the target size, mild it. Then Take the target in inches and slide rule down to the Mildot size, and the target range will tell you in yards or flip the card, meters.

    Great video.
    Just one thing that doesn’t really matter but I’ll say it anyway.
    Mils aren’t metric. It is a very common misconception. A mil. is a mil. regardless which system you use to measure. If you use mils. you can switch back and forth between metric and imperial. Also a mil can be used as a drop comp for multiple systems. Using MOA is harder to switch from one weapon to another, that’s why they make BDC.

    • @johndaniels5226
      @johndaniels5226 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mils is absolutely metric. It’s a base-10 system like everything else that is part of the metric system.

    • @Heywoodthepeckerwood
      @Heywoodthepeckerwood 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johndaniels5226 so is a football field metric?
      Just be as something is divisible by 10 doesn’t make it part of the metric system. It’s based in a radium. And then divided into 1000ths

    • @johndaniels5226
      @johndaniels5226 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Heywoodthepeckerwood a football field is not metric because yards is a base 3 system, while feet are a base 12 system. All things metric are base 10 meaning 10 to the power of whatever gives you your measurements. A radian to the power of -3 gives you a milliradian which exactly equals a meter to the power of -2 (centimeter) at a range of 100 meters from the center of the circle.
      This is the power of the metric system.

    Tosh, what's your opinion on the Crye Precision Combat Assault Ghillie? I know you covered silly ghillies, but do you have any experience with that specific piece? I figure buy once cry once, and my experience with ghillie is very limited. It seems like it would be ideal for my purposes, but of course research is important with any piece of kit.
