That's so cool that you used some pipe and some wooden doule to simulate rings 👍👍

I think this one is also called the Byzantine chain. If I'm not mistaken.. a channel called Celtic Dreams does a great tutorial video on this chain,he is from the UK... I'm also a silversmith/jeweler 👍🏼
hi Ken, no this is definitely not Byzantine chain this is called roundmaille check out this previous original video I did on the subject if you’re interested. th-cam.com/video/AWz2n3_wnME/w-d-xo.html Cheers Nick
Awesome will try it. have lots of jump rings.
thanks Pie, one of my favourite waves … simple and pretty … N

The tubing and wooden dowels would be a cool way to do hugely exaggerated chainmail in cosplay or something.
I wonder if spray painting the tubing would last or if the rings running against each other would cause it to rub off.
Hi Talee, I did try permanent black marker pen but it seemed to rub off and make a right mess. After searching the Internet, I came across black silicon rubber tubing that might look better for this purpose … good luck with it … N
👌🏻
👍😎👍 … N
What do you call it when you sit down to chainmail. Chaining? Mailing? Ringing? Thrilling?!?!?!
something like a mail meddling mulling meditation 😵💫 … N
Dys od do easy❤
How to make chainmail??? I have tryed but the links kept twisting and doing wreid stuff
Knowing about “aspect ratio” is a great help. Different weaves need different size links and a weaves aspect ratio determines what size wire and ring diameter suits that particular technique. There’s a website that I find is a fantastic resource that is a huge database full of information on different weaves and techniques www.chainmailbasket.com/weaves.html … hope this helps … N
That's not roundmaile....
That's Inverted Round. (Full time Maillesmith for almost 30 years)
Hi David you’re right, i’m not sure why I left out the word inverted … N
Much better!!
Thanks Rico …N
I do love your videos. This is one I’m going to try. Did you have a certain size of rings you used or will it work with all sizes? Thank you. I also love the different tools you make for your other jewelry pieces.
thanks for that Susan, a recommended aspect ratio for round mail is 4.2 So when using 1mm wire a link with an internal diameter of 4mm as the one I’m demonstrating is a little tight but still possible. If you go up to 4.5mm rings it might seem a loose weave. but it comes down to personal preference. I tend to test and practice a lot with copper wire first before committing anything to silver to make sure I’m happy with the look and make sure it’s possible to solder easily … all the best … Nick
