- This is the longer 40 second version of the Escaflowne promo.
Escaflowne was pushed as an action mecha series on FoxKids along the same vein as Sunrise's Gundam series, however it wasn't really as action orientated as I think FoxKids was hoping for. I believe the series was cut short and never finished it's run there. For those of use in Canada, YTV aired the entire series.
This show melted my mind as a kid still does, so much detailed drawings and detailed lighting animation. Imagine treating a kid to like, a lobster dinner, that's how I felt.
One thing that is objectively mind blowing is how many genres it is simultaneously. I agree, amazing stuff.
and it only aired for 10 episodes
I remember when this show was cut after they realized how bloody & violent it actually was later on. lol

I can see that. lol Parents noticed how Escaflowne was bloody & violent as all hell in a kids cartoon segment and were like "Oh hell no! My kids ain't watching this!" and tuned out. haha
They didn’t get that far, but a 21 year old character proposing marriage to a 15-year-old probably wouldn’t have helped things
Ratings. I believe YTV aired the entirety of this dub on their Animania block meaning all episodes were edited and dubbed by Saban. YTV also had DBZ, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, YuGiOh, Digimon, and Gundam Wing on the same block.
@@pacsonic9000 Gundam seed was also unedited on ytv and teletoon.
Van Fanel was voiced by the late Kirby Morrow.
The original Japanese cast was Tomokazu Seki. He remains one of the top voice actors.

Escaflowne and Ronin Warriors, the gateway to anime for 90s kids who didn't have cable.
This promo is where it all started my fan love for Kirby Morrow and Kelly Sheridan. I'm really gonna miss you Kirby Morrow. Your voice was always in perfect synchronization with the characters you voiced, Weep.
Alot of people didn't like what they did with this show on Fox kids, but if I had't seen those ten episodes that they aired on here, I probably wouldn't have gotten into this show the way I had. Thank you for airing this and reminding me of better times when I first got into this amazing series

I saw this promo as a kid and I couldn't wake up early enough to watch it lol
I think the best part is that the series not only got an uncut re-dub, but the entirety of the Ocean cast reprised their roles.
Oh man I remember this tv spot man it gave me chills as a kid lol
hearing "go with the flow" causes me physical pain

You know they did this on YTV FIRST, before Fox Kids did this second. And btw, anymore anime promos from YTV besides Fox Kids????

Im a bit salty they didn't think the magic of Yoko Kanno and Maaya Sakamoto's music weren't good enough for American ears.
This show looked like it would've picked up and air on adult swim. Given that it has blood and straight up teenager type romance in it and adult situations, Especially the use of magic like tarot cards which in the west seems to not belong in western kids tv and nudity.
Not to mention one character had a kid and didn't know it was his.
And that same character asked a 15-year-old to marry him (and he's 21)

I believe adult swim aired the movie. Also, Cartoon Network wanted to air this and Slayers but Fox Kids outbid them on both of them. We all know which of the two went unaired.
@@pacsonic9000 It's really funny that Fox got cold feet with Slayers when it is far, far tamer than Escaflowne was.
