Itala was one of the leading Italian quality car makes pre‑1914. In 1907 they entered three cars for the Coppa Della Velocita Race at Brescia; these finished first, eighth and tenth. This car was the winner, driven by Cagno at an average speed of 65.2mph/104.93kph for the 302 miles (486.02 kilometres). Weight is just over a ton, with a giant engine of 14.5 litres.
The car can now be seen on display at the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu. www.beaulieu.co.uk

Love the look of the old engines with the exposed valve rockers. You can actually see the engine at work unlike the "modern" engines hidden beneath covers.

Totally love the style of these early race cars and I think this Itala is the best of them. If I ever win the lottery I would love to make a modern day replica ......... well one can dream

0:44 In 1907 it burned both gas *and* oil, making it the first Hybrid
2:23 for a real idea of shear terror, imaging that view, at 100mph, down a dusty rutty dirt road, these guys had balls of titanium!

The brand Itala had nothing to do with Fiat. They were totally different auto makers.

Dieser Itala hat 7433 ccm und 45 hp, aber natürlich ein riesiges Drehmoment, gut für etwa 100 km/h

I'm wondering if this was the same model car that won Prince Scipione Borghese the 1907 Beijing to Paris auto rally which is the earliest such rally in history.

Shame on you, National Motor Museum! It's not a "Fiat Itala", it's an Itala. Totally separate company. I would have expected better of such a respected museum.

Right. Itala Fabricca Automobili was launched in Turin in 1904 by Matteo Ceirano; an Italian Mechanical Engineer and his Financer; Michele Ansaldi. Racing was the goal from Start.
