This is going to allow way more diversity in building homes inspired by different regions. As an EU player its frustrating to basically only have apartments or detached homes. This could be such a game changer for us all. An update I'm genuinely eager to see for once!
That is so true, we can now have way more variety in styles that are very important to certain regions, like terraced houses in the UK, public housing apartments like in Eastern Europe and so on. I am totally very excited for this
I can't imagine wanting to live in attached housing. Your neighbors are fighting, their kids are screaming, and you can't step out of your own door without a grown man's stained underwear flapping in your face.
I hope one of the first things Kayla does after the pack comes out is make some townhouses/apartments for all of those huge starter home lots in del sol valley! those lots are perfect for multi-family homes instead of just one small starter lol

I use the roommates feature for townhomes. Strategically locking doors keeps them out of your space. Works great. I imagine the tenant feature will be similar, where you can "set front door for unit 1, set front door for unit 2" and so on. That's just a hunch though.
I'm hoping that the rental lots don't show the items and Sims inside all the units at once, like the way apartments currently are. Otherwise it's going to be super laggy
It seems like it doesn’t based on the trailer. There’s a small scene after the girl breaks into the lot where you can see the items are not shown when you’re in another lot. I think it would only show if you have to go in to “fix” something

I feel like the loading aspect between apartments is like what happens in the secret labs in strangerville. Like you can't access the basement with out the key card and the basement is blacked out until you unlock the door.
I live in the end house of a terrace of 4. They were originally built about a 100 years ago (not exaggerating) & were all originally what you'd call 2 up 2 down (as in 2 rooms down stairs & 2 bedrooms upstairs), no inside bathroom. As you can imagine none of the interiors of the houses match each other anymore 😁
There are heaps of similar terraces here in Sydney, Australia. Some of my ancestors lived in them, with huge families. Nowadays they’re worth millions 😅
One thing I'm really wondering about the new pack is whether the landlord sim will be able to choose who the tenants are (like does the landlord sim receive applications from different sims and choose which sim gets to live there, or do random tenants just move in? etc).
theres something very fun (and sweet) to me as someone from the uk to see someone romanticising terraced houses ^-^ like these are fully just Normal, most houses, even. its nice to see something so normal from the outside!
I think neighbour's flats may look similar to other people's houses before knocking on the door. Like you can see through windows but not with walls down. You're still on lot when you do that with full houses
I bet the sneak out window will break the apts. if it’s like sims 2 then there can only be one entrance to the apt. Yards and balconies had to be fenced. Can’t wait to find out the limitations. I saw Nova tweet that she wasn’t sure because she didn’t try to max out the number so maybe a decent amount.
I can't wait for this pack. It sounds like we could use it to make retirement communities or motels (especially those ones that look like little one room apts each with their own exit). I made one big painted lady in San Sequoia - it does seem just perfect for it, but I didn't want to deal with the issues of having enough space for 2 or 3 families and just playing one. I might redo after the EP comes out though.
Hi from Portsmouth U.K! Can relate to the build. We like to live in tiny squished houses. We call them terraced housing rather than row houses. My old house was built in 1880s and didn’t have an indoor bathroom originally. It had to be added on to the back of the house off the kitchen.
When the pack comes out I would love to have a series where you revisit some of the old town houses or apartments you build and convert them into real rental lots!

Yeah I didn't expect to be this excited about the new pack but I'm even more excited about it than I was for growing together and babies.. because I realized how much I desperately want to have sims living nearby like townhouses and stuff!! And the five new traits and the breaking and entering also are SO fun to me so this has to be my most anticipated pack so I'm Begging for it to not be broken lmao
13:00 I appreciate the different decorations for each house. If you're ever curious. You can usually find nice apartment floorplans online. Heck, most apartment complexes have their floorplans available for view. They typically have a few different layouts, so it's not all the same, but there are still several of the same throughout.

I had no idea this pack was a thing, nor did I know a new one was coming. I haven’t really been watching sims content in a bit now so I guess that’s that, though it’s really refreshing to be watching lilsimise again. Either way, I have a feeling this pack is a must buy. Like hello?? Renting spaces, tiny and cute houses with roommates and everything. Literally perfect
The pack is going to be so useful for generational play! Like you could have the family you play with and the relatives,like cousins, live in the same complex and be able to easily visit them without everyone being in the same household. And what comes to defining which rooms belong to what apartment or such, I think it might be something on the lot panel in buildmode. Like you could room by room select to which unit they belong to and maybe even somehow mark the front doors?
I LOVE the stories that Simsie is able to tell through her building 🤩🤩 Each little town house has such a different a specific personality, and you can see it all so clearly reflected through even the smallest choices she makes for furniture and decore!! What an excellent job!! This has got to be one of my new most favorite builds ❤️
about the loading screens worry: i hope it works just like in the sims 2 apartment expansion, the neighbor apartment is just kinda faded with shadows and once we visit it fully appears with furniture and all that stuff cuz I would hate to go tru a loading screen on the same lot, same building 😭😭 in the sims 2 it worked so well I hope they adapt that!!

Shout out to Portsmouth! I've lived here most of my life and I know the houses you're talking about as I used to live in one Super excited about this pack, I loved when we had proper apartments previously
What I used to do to give the illusion of apartments/townhouses was download these types of lots and then get roomates to live in the other houses. I had to make sure each of their front doors would only let the right "resident" in otherwise everyone would just be barging into everyone else's houses lol. It wasn't ideal though because sometimes the "neighbours" were pretty stupid and wouldn't feed or bathe themselves and then they would threaten to leave - had to use cheats to keep them happy. So pleased we'll have an actual apartment mechanic now!
I think we'll have a loading screen because in the trailer one of the apartments was empty when you were in the other. It makes more sense if you go watch it now and look for that. I think it would be better if there is a loading screen just so we don't have to worry about putting too much stuff and it slowing the computer.
Just FYI, every bedroom and livingroom-esq space in a basement is required to have a window so that people can escape in case of a fire, so most basements have natural light, though it's not a lot. It's usually just a hole lined with sheet metal with a little ladder and a grate on top. Sometimes if a house lot is on a hill they will make a walkout basement, which is really cool
I would definitely expect a loading screen travelling between apartments, just because of the current household size, unless they've managed to re-engineer a lot of background stuff to allow low end machines to cope with so many active sims on a plot. I think the current limit is 20ish(?) which is why the Highschool feels ridiculously empty all the time. When you think how many 8-sim households could all live on a 64 x 64 lot, the number of active Sims would need to dramatically increase to handle that. So yeah, it's far more realistic to expect loading screens.
The thing that makes me anxious about this pack is this: do you have to play all the families in the apartments at once? Because I’d love to have more of my sims live in apartments, but not if I have to play or deal with the sims in the rest of the apartments. And if that means one multi-family lot (townhouses, apartments, duplexes) has the same 8-sim limit, that feels like a drag.
I’m so excited for this pack as an Australian. I’m obsessed with all the settlement style townhouses and terraces that you get in inner Sydney and Melbourne. It’s always frustrating to me that most of the Sims favors an urban sprawl kind of vibe, and I’m looking forward to be able to create a neighborhood that fits more what I’m used to seeing in my real life.

I sort of think that there would have to be a loading screen between units in order for them to allow you to build more than 2 units. The loading screen would sort of allow you to have more sims "on the lot" than the max without them actually appearing on the lot, like they are in city living

I really like how you used the basement stuff to sort of tell the story of the house on the end being still in the process of moving in, that's pretty inspired. all of the houses are super cute, and while yes the different layouts are not necessarily *realistic* they are most certainly *fun*, and isn't that what games are for ? I'm really looking forward to you doing at least one base game real apartment once the pack comes out. I have a couple packs but you use So Many so while I love seeing the builds because they're so pretty it's rare I get to use them lol.
Just an random fact, a lot of states have a law that says you cant have a "bedroom" in the basement without a window big enough for a person to get out of in case of a fire. that is why you would see things like this where it is like a door to no where.

i have a row of townhouses just like this near me! a couple are staggered but same pastels! also in the uk :> these look like miners homes, very little and compacy
i really hope that the selection of what unit/household you're going to play with is like the apartments are now, where you can select individual rooms with individual sims, otherwise it might be really hard to play, and really laggy.
Wow! I also love building for more than one family so looking forward to get this exp pack! BTW, if you own your apartment you design as you like more freely and then you see different kitchens in same building so it's fun to build different kitchens, I do it all the time.
I love the being moved into unit, that basement room would be ideal to turn into a sort of office/library but also guest bedroom by combining the Murphy bed with a couch with one of the sets of built in bookcases and also putting in a desk and a second cozy reading chair. Which is something that'd look neat in game, and is funny to me to put in a basement because I currently live in a basement bedroom and that's probably what my mum's going to turn my room into once I find an affordable apartment and move out - she always talks about wanting a spare room to turn into a home library.
Love how you unintentionally gave the rebellious basement teen and place outside to sit and smoke complete with a wall of ivy which would help recycle the air faster and keep away the smell as well as being a way to sneak in or out 😂😂😂

I never thought I wanted to build apartments, but I actually got a random burst of inspiration 3 days ago and spent the entire night building a big ranch house that I split up into several apartments. It turned out cuter than I ever imagined! Definitely gotta build more apartments from now on My subconscious knew! It's too bad because now I gotta wait until December to actually play with it, but that got me really excited for the new pack

I’m glad they finally added the ability to build apartments. Especially because so many world are tiny, but now we can finally have more families in each world and hopefully that will help make worlds feel less “empty” now.
5:33 Terraced. The word you're looking for is terraced. These are terraced houses. A row of terraced houses. Or just terrace houses, depending on which part of the UK you're from and what dialect you use.
So for just general pointless information: these houses are known as “terraced” houses here in the UK and a large majority of reasonably priced homes are this style. My parents house is an end-of-terrace house and all the houses down our road are around 4 houses connected together and then a little gap before the next set. Where I currently live is another end terrace house except I live in a basement flat (which is honestly kinda bizarre because basements are NOT common here)

Its been a while but i believe in Sims 2 Apartment Living(?) that you could easily make any building an apartment by putting a special front door on it. That was it, an apartment door with an attached welcome mat and that made it an apartment. Hopefully it'll be something that simple in Sims 4. or maybe a special wall tool? that would be harder to convert things though.
It would really be fun to have noise problems between neighbors! That’s a very realistic struggle in living in apartment and for gameplay beef i between families
there is nothing ive ever needed more in the sims than townhouses. I can actually build the other 99% of the UK now that isnt the country living style. thrilled ❤🎉
Info on houses in the UK that are built like this (one row of attached houses, usually three floors or come with a basement flat) is that because of when they were built, right now even though they’re incredibly expensive they’ve also usually got a few structural problems that have come up as the building aged, with either plumbing, heating, or draft and insulation. Sometimes the kitchens are WEIRD lol. Sometimes all of it actually.
Kayla, These are so cute! In The Sims 2, the apartments were determined by specific apartment doors. I think that might be how the new rental lots will work. I'm also super excited by the upcoming EP!😂

It's not all the units at once unless I'm missing something? I can't see into anybody else's lot unless I'm visiting there unit.

It'll probably be like how roommates work in the university pack. But it would be nice if we did get to choose, that would make story building easier.

Those holes leading to basement windows are called light wells 😊 they’re a great idea - natural light is always better

about the loading screens worry: i hope it works just like in the sims 2 apartment expansion, the neighbor apartment is just kinda faded with shadows and once we visit it fully appears with furniture and all that stuff cuz I would hate to go tru a loading screen on the same lot, same building 😭😭 in the sims 2 it worked so well I hope they adapt that!!

Super excited about this pack, I loved when we had proper apartments previously
What I used to do to give the illusion of apartments/townhouses was download these types of lots and then get roomates to live in the other houses. I had to make sure each of their front doors would only let the right "resident" in otherwise everyone would just be barging into everyone else's houses lol. It wasn't ideal though because sometimes the "neighbours" were pretty stupid and wouldn't feed or bathe themselves and then they would threaten to leave - had to use cheats to keep them happy. So pleased we'll have an actual apartment mechanic now!

I think we'll have a loading screen because in the trailer one of the apartments was empty when you were in the other. It makes more sense if you go watch it now and look for that. I think it would be better if there is a loading screen just so we don't have to worry about putting too much stuff and it slowing the computer.

Just FYI, every bedroom and livingroom-esq space in a basement is required to have a window so that people can escape in case of a fire, so most basements have natural light, though it's not a lot. It's usually just a hole lined with sheet metal with a little ladder and a grate on top. Sometimes if a house lot is on a hill they will make a walkout basement, which is really cool
I would definitely expect a loading screen travelling between apartments, just because of the current household size, unless they've managed to re-engineer a lot of background stuff to allow low end machines to cope with so many active sims on a plot. I think the current limit is 20ish(?) which is why the Highschool feels ridiculously empty all the time. When you think how many 8-sim households could all live on a 64 x 64 lot, the number of active Sims would need to dramatically increase to handle that. So yeah, it's far more realistic to expect loading screens.
The thing that makes me anxious about this pack is this: do you have to play all the families in the apartments at once? Because I’d love to have more of my sims live in apartments, but not if I have to play or deal with the sims in the rest of the apartments. And if that means one multi-family lot (townhouses, apartments, duplexes) has the same 8-sim limit, that feels like a drag.
I’m so excited for this pack as an Australian. I’m obsessed with all the settlement style townhouses and terraces that you get in inner Sydney and Melbourne. It’s always frustrating to me that most of the Sims favors an urban sprawl kind of vibe, and I’m looking forward to be able to create a neighborhood that fits more what I’m used to seeing in my real life.

I sort of think that there would have to be a loading screen between units in order for them to allow you to build more than 2 units. The loading screen would sort of allow you to have more sims "on the lot" than the max without them actually appearing on the lot, like they are in city living
these are lovely !! I really like how you used the basement stuff to sort of tell the story of the house on the end being still in the process of moving in, that's pretty inspired. all of the houses are super cute, and while yes the different layouts are not necessarily *realistic* they are most certainly *fun*, and isn't that what games are for ?
I'm really looking forward to you doing at least one base game real apartment once the pack comes out. I have a couple packs but you use So Many so while I love seeing the builds because they're so pretty it's rare I get to use them lol.
Just an random fact, a lot of states have a law that says you cant have a "bedroom" in the basement without a window big enough for a person to get out of in case of a fire. that is why you would see things like this where it is like a door to no where.

i have a row of townhouses just like this near me! a couple are staggered but same pastels! also in the uk :> these look like miners homes, very little and compacy

i really hope that the selection of what unit/household you're going to play with is like the apartments are now, where you can select individual rooms with individual sims, otherwise it might be really hard to play, and really laggy.

Wow! I also love building for more than one family so looking forward to get this exp pack! BTW, if you own your apartment you design as you like more freely and then you see different kitchens in same building so it's fun to build different kitchens, I do it all the time.

I love the being moved into unit, that basement room would be ideal to turn into a sort of office/library but also guest bedroom by combining the Murphy bed with a couch with one of the sets of built in bookcases and also putting in a desk and a second cozy reading chair. Which is something that'd look neat in game, and is funny to me to put in a basement because I currently live in a basement bedroom and that's probably what my mum's going to turn my room into once I find an affordable apartment and move out - she always talks about wanting a spare room to turn into a home library.
Love how you unintentionally gave the rebellious basement teen and place outside to sit and smoke complete with a wall of ivy which would help recycle the air faster and keep away the smell as well as being a way to sneak in or out 😂😂😂

I never thought I wanted to build apartments, but I actually got a random burst of inspiration 3 days ago and spent the entire night building a big ranch house that I split up into several apartments. It turned out cuter than I ever imagined! Definitely gotta build more apartments from now on

Terraced. The word you're looking for is terraced. These are terraced houses. A row of terraced houses. Or just terrace houses, depending on which part of the UK you're from and what dialect you use.

So for just general pointless information: these houses are known as “terraced” houses here in the UK and a large majority of reasonably priced homes are this style. My parents house is an end-of-terrace house and all the houses down our road are around 4 houses connected together and then a little gap before the next set. Where I currently live is another end terrace house except I live in a basement flat (which is honestly kinda bizarre because basements are NOT common here)

Lol. I was seriously wondering if anyone else was building multi-family units ahead of the launch. I will definitely pre-order this pack! I really need to upgrade my computer at this point. Sometimes I wonder how much I've invested in The Sims from the beginning. I always buy all the packs, and at every iteration, a new computer.
Its been a while but i believe in Sims 2 Apartment Living(?) that you could easily make any building an apartment by putting a special front door on it. That was it, an apartment door with an attached welcome mat and that made it an apartment. Hopefully it'll be something that simple in Sims 4. or maybe a special wall tool? that would be harder to convert things though.
It would really be fun to have noise problems between neighbors! That’s a very realistic struggle in living in apartment and for gameplay beef i between families
there is nothing ive ever needed more in the sims than townhouses. I can actually build the other 99% of the UK now that isnt the country living style. thrilled ❤🎉

Info on houses in the UK that are built like this (one row of attached houses, usually three floors or come with a basement flat) is that because of when they were built, right now even though they’re incredibly expensive they’ve also usually got a few structural problems that have come up as the building aged, with either plumbing, heating, or draft and insulation. Sometimes the kitchens are WEIRD lol. Sometimes all of it actually.
