SB19's MAPA song sung here by the graduates tells of the very culture here in the Philippines where it is ingrained in the youth the vow that when they graduate and are stable enough, they would take care of their parents' as much as the latter had supported them reach their life goals especially to at least finish college. "Ma' stands for Mother and 'Pa' for Father, thus the title MAPA; the gist of the song is a grateful son/daughter's message to the parents saying, "Mom,Dad, you may relax, let me now be in charge of everything, It's my turn to give back the sacrifices you gave me to have me come this far.' MAPA is a song of HOMAGE TO PARENTS FROM A GRATEFUL CHILD.
Graduation day in the Philippines is very important specially for parents, and a big gift the students to their parents. ❤ Thank you for a good reactions. ❤
Filipinos have respect for elders and authorities . Maybe that is why these students are easier to teach and given instructions to follow to make these performances a success.☺️
Brings me back to my own graduation, I happened in a church and there was singing of church songs. I am now in my 50s so you see this type of musical celebration has been happening always 😊
MAPA grad. song is a tribute to their parents and their holding their family's pictures...what a beautiful way of honoring your parents...thank you for this video!
Goosebumps. MAPA is going to be timeless classic for years to come. Such a really beautiful song by SB19. Our graduation song then was "Today My Life Begins" by Bruno Mars. SKL 😅
Ooh it's my video. ❤ Thank you. I was a teacher of Notre Dame of Dadiangas University in General Santos City, the one singing A Million Dreams with lights. They are our students and I am also proud documenting and guiding their graduation song.
We also do a song at our graduations in Hawai'i, chosen by the graduating class. It might have some what to do with having a big Filipino community there. It could be a combination with Hawaiian cultures love of singing that has spread to Hawai'i melting pot of locals.
MaPa indeed is a masterpiece. Crying a lot when heard it again for the 5th time live last Sunday😭😭😭 it will always have a special in my heart. My message both to my dad(+2014) and mom(now fighting cancer this year)
Philippine graduation really hits differently and every songs vary yearly. It pays tribute to you, your family and your future. I could remember my graduation songs clearly. Elementary- I am but a small voice Highschool - Thanks to you College- Today my Life Begins During class reunions, we always play these songs. ❤
i am a filipino but im touch of the message of the song and the waving of a picture. its all about appreciation of the student to the family. coz traditionally in the philippines parents are providing everything for the students.
Usually graduation song is practiced for two weeks before the graduation students are practicing it section by section two days before the graduation all sections will unite all sections as one
As a Filipino watching from Marikina City in Metro Manila, I'm the one so amused that it is anything special to you and to people outside the Philippine islands. I realize now that, 'Oh, that's 'amazing' to you?!' Because for Filipinos, these are regular events. But I now see that it is actually a 'phenomenon' to foreigners. Now, that's a thought. Thank you for seeing us as a delightful nation. We dance a lot as well! 😮😅
Here in the Philippines, graduates usually pick and practice a song to honor their parents and including the teachers, sometimes it also commemorates moments they spent with their classmates and their new chapter. It is beautiful. Usually its very touching and meaningful moment especially for the parents 💕
They are holding a certificate of deploma . Proud to graduate offering that deploma to there parents. Every graduation have a graduation song. Most memorable songs for those years they are in school.
I miss the Philippines, I am now currently living at canada and theres nothing like the Philippines. A very special country indeed not just for me but other people as well no matter where they are from. I am glad to see how much love the Philippines is getting now!
Yes Amazing Sammy but it really happened in any graduation here in Phil, these I think song of SB 19 lead us/ guided us inspirations to ,pursue our dreams ,so thank you to Pablo who composed the song of MAPA
I'm 37 yrs old and I still remember our graduation song in elementary (one friend) and in Highschool (Next in Line). Everytime I hear these songs I remember my classmates, teachers, friends, waiter in school cafeteria, security guards, librarian and all people back in that time 😊. We have graduation songs dedicated to our parents or guardians, teachers, classmates and for all the people who came that day to celebrate with us.
It’s the graduates entertaining their parents. The SB19 song MAPA is really contraction the words Mother Father (MAMA PAPA). More like a tribute to the parents.
Here in Philippines are family oriented. Education is important no matter if you are rich or poor will do the hardwork to make their children bring to school. And its their parents pride .
Graduation rites are both a celebration and paying tribute to the people who made it happen for the students. We all look forward to these times, as a coming of age, and a season of parting. Music and dance is deeply rooted in our culture, tho it is slowly receding from todays urbanized generation...everywhere else in the country, this is practised. We call it a "hym" that is entitled to the students to perform as our rite of passage.
Singing is always a part of special events. Graduation, parties, even Christmas carols. When i migrated to the US i was excited to do “Carolling” with my kids on the snowy streets of America only to learn that there is no such thing. 😢
Graduation in Philippines is a big celebration. What they are celebrating in graduation day is not only for the student’s achievements but also the achievement of their parents on sending them to school and all their sacrifices. Every graduation has a theme song g to perform for their parents. They are serenading to their parents for all the sacrifices they made for them just for them to have a good education. I graduated in Philippines and the experience of singing the theme song dedicated to your parents is emotional and exceptional.
🇵🇭 😄 During my time in our high school graduation more than a decade ago, we didn't do any choreography or the likes of arm and hand gestures, changing our body positions or orientations (or which way we're facing), using the lights from our phones or the like, nor whatnot else that are the same or similar to those, etc. for our songs in our high school graduation day. We just sang our songs in our high school graduation day, and if I can still remember them well, we sang a lot of songs: one is a doxology song or a universal prayer song, one is our batch or class graduation song and/or farewell song, and one is our batch or class graduation thanksgiving and gratitude song and/or journey song (I just don't remember well anymore what are the exact songs and song titles we sang and what they're genres and purposes are for our graduation), and those doesn't even include the singing of the Philippine national anthem, our official local city hymn, and our school hymn (My high school is in a highly urbanized city here in the Philippines, which also means that our city is an independent city, so we don't have the need to sing a separate official local provincial hymn, and our high school is not directly under the Department of Education in the Philippines, so we also don't have the need to sing a separate official local regional hymn and a separate official local schools division hymn.). Our school even have, requested and/or hired a pianist who is also a choir or chorale conductor and a vocal coach, instructor or teacher (who is also the pianist and choir or chorale conductor of our state college's choir or chorale for our school activities, holidays, occasions, observances, festivals, programs, and most especially for our Roman Catholic Christian Eucharist masses and church services held in our state college every first Friday of every month) to teach us the songs and on how to sing them during our graduation day practices and rehearsals that are held every afternoon to late afternoon after our class hours for weeks before our graduation day. I am personally an outcast among most Filipinos, because I am tone deaf and not even good enough in singing, and not even a little bit good enough in my honest opinion, although I like, love, enjoy, value and appreciate music a lot, and I like to hum and sing a lot only and most especially when I'm at home, and especially when I'm all alone, when I wash the dishes, take a shower or bath, or when I'm doing some other household chores or other leisure or recreational activities at home, so I also enjoyed the singing parts in our graduation day. By the way, I attended and graduated in and from a laboratory high school of or affiliated to the College of Education and Liberal Arts, serving as the college's laboratory school, that is of, under or within a public higher educational institution (specifically a local or regional state college) here in the Philippines.
It's a Filipino tradition , graduates sing at least two songs on their graduation,.. as I remember we sing a last song before we leave on our graduation program, and thats when our classmates began to cry specially girls.. that was year 1991.. old school
in some schools, they also sing Go Up and SLMT by SB19 as well. it's like encouragement to themselves and thanking their families for the support. i always get emotional when I see vids like this. esp during graduations. all the more I love sb19 huhu
Events in Philippines such this is always celebrate extravaganza. I am in USA now and I can say for sure that there is a BIG difference how the Filipino celebrate events. Everything full of life, I miss it so much
Most of the time we song as a theme in our graduation even elementary secondary and college.i experience those moment in my life even jolly songs you feel in touch and teary eyes on that moments.mabuhay everyone and God bless
My graduation songs Kindergarten: Happy, by Nikki Gil Elementary Grad: ..oh ohh..sht, i forgot, it's a lot of songs, but our section was assigned to be the soprano HighSchool: That song fr the second vid, fr the greatest show man and also, My Life Begins(i forgot the title) by Bruno Mars College Grad: Mapa Well, plus the school hymn
In the Philippines, graduations are always a big celebrations for us. We wear formal attires under a toga. Mostly white togas for high schools and blacks for universities. I remembered when I graduated nursing here in Montreal, majority of the graduates wore casuals, a few wore short and jeans. There was one guy who did a tumbling on stage, after receiving his diploma, and many were laughing. I was very astounded watching him.
About your question, the photo is the photo of their family. The song is all about a thank you for the mother's or family for working hard for their family for them to study and the song is conveying to say take some rest and it's my turn to work for you that's on the first song. White gowns are for secondary education or middle school in the UK. The second graduation with white gloves are just for props for the production. We filipinos has a lot of production or thank you song for parents and friend as middle school is like a big step to adulthood or the real world to us and next step on University. I remember to us we did dance and the song "Thank you". And Thank you to for sharing to the world how talented Filipinos are. We appreciate you being a Filipino you are always welcome to visit us :)
Actually, Graduation is an emotional because it is the time we part ways. Actually, i remember that was way back in 1985 we sang the song FAREWELL by Raymond Lauchengco. That is a touching song listen to that please. You will cry.
That is the norm in my homeland. Nothing beats our graduation ceremonies. You will really feel great, that all your hardwork is worth that culminating ceremony. Comparing it to my gradschool graduation in an Ivy League university, we just lined up, shook hands and that was it. It felt like...that's it? In my country, they know how to celebrate each student. Graduation is always special.
We had our graduation scheduled at night. We were singing "Somewhere only we know" all the electricity were suddenly cut off, and everyone just started singing in acapella and brought their phones out and started waving them with their flashlights on. It was so beautiful, I cried a lot with my friends that night. (Yes like the flashlight song by jessie j vibes)
music is the tie that binds in the philippines, that's why international artists connect with pinoy audience so easily. thanks for this emotional reaction. and thank you for appreciating filipinos. ❤️❤️❤️
From childhood we are all trained to respect elders, listen and obey your parents and teachers. Most of us are raised by our grandparents because our parents have to work. So you see our grandparents taught us the way of life and when toys are absent we sing through the chores we do and enjoy the work. Thanks Lolo and Lola….
How I wish you understand the first song of students. It’s thanking their mama and papa for waking early to help them prepare in school.. remembering when they were kids parents taught m love and care.. beautiful song…
Having a graduation song is a must for every schoool, be it public or private school. It has been a tradition especially in high school grad. It is the culmination of each students' conviction to strive more so that they could live better lives than before. I believe ours was Oras na
Hi ! I am a new subscriber! I came across your videos just today and I got hooked to it. Thank you for admiring my fellow Filipinos. Actually I worked there for almost 21 years in UK as a nurse and now I retired but I got a British passport. I live in Essex. Anyway that graduation ceremony you were watching was a Senior High School graduation. In the Philippines HS grad wear white robe (we call it white toga) worn over clothes. But if it is a College or Uni Graduation we were black robe and it depends on what degree, there is an accent of yellow, purple or something as a distinction of what degree you have. It is indeed amazing to see them in their graduation robe. Come & visit Philippines.. you are most welcome.
We used to sing during our graduations... We call it a GRADUATION SONG. And I'm so proud of my son who composed their GRADUATION SONG when he graduated. ❤❤

I graduated in Elem 03 .. our graduation song was Only Hope by Mandy Moore. It was d most popular song of d year as well 😂
We sang Wind Beneath My Wings in 94 😊
We sang "Glowing Inside"...High School Batch 2006
Same here in 2000😅 for highschool
Yup. Not sure with other schools and colleges but we do have multiple rehearsals before the actual thing, to make sure the program goes smoothly.
Filipinos have respect for elders and authorities . Maybe that is why these students are easier to teach and given instructions to follow to make these performances a success.☺️
Brings me back to my own graduation,
I happened in a church and there was singing of church songs.
SKL 😅
That is my beloved Motherland The Philippines.🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
Ooh it's my video. ❤ Thank you. I was a teacher of Notre Dame of Dadiangas University in General Santos City, the one singing A Million Dreams with lights. They are our students and I am also proud documenting and guiding their graduation song.
Its normal here in the philippines during graduation.different schools and yearly has different themesongs during graduation...❤❤❤
My message both to my dad(+2014) and mom(now fighting cancer this year)
This made me cry too.. i love MAPA
This song is a thank you song for their parents for raising them and working hard just to send them to school ❤
Philippine graduation really hits differently and every songs vary yearly. It pays tribute to you, your family and your future. I could remember my graduation songs clearly.
Elementary- I am but a small voice
Highschool - Thanks to you
College- Today my Life Begins
During class reunions, we always play these songs. ❤
You are very correct that music bring everyone together, music is already there before the creation of the earth. ❤ watching frm the Philippines.
Actually that is normal here. Every graduation day we have a graduation theme song. And we sing and also perform. ❤❤❤
😭😭😭 crying to mapa
i am a filipino but im touch of the message of the song and the waving of a picture. its all about appreciation of the student to the family. coz traditionally in the philippines parents are providing everything for the students.
The most beautiful groups of singers in our beautiful country Philippines, proud to be a Filipino God bless everyone.
Usually graduation song is practiced for two weeks before the graduation students are practicing it section by section two days before the graduation all sections will unite all sections as one
they are hold the pict of their family, parents, guardian, whoever that inspires them on their study, in which they dedicate their song.
Sammy... I'm crying tooo.... :(
I started crying the moment they sang MAPA, the song is really close to my heart coz I never seen my mother after my 2nd grade.
They are holding a certificate of deploma . Proud to graduate offering that deploma to there parents.
Every graduation have a graduation song. Most memorable songs for those years they are in school.
Graduation song is normal every graduation day..Filipinos sing in whatever events and celebrations..
MAPA just hits different
Every year from elementary, high school, college Sb19 song used to a graduation,, not only MAPA, but also GO UP, SLMT,
What do you mean by sb19?
I miss the Philippines, I am now currently living at canada and theres nothing like the Philippines. A very special country indeed not just for me but other people as well no matter where they are from. I am glad to see how much love the Philippines is getting now!
Yes Amazing Sammy but it really happened in any graduation here in Phil, these I think song of SB 19 lead us/ guided us inspirations to ,pursue our dreams ,so thank you to Pablo who composed the song of MAPA
Graduation ceremonies always make me emotional. Plus singing MAPA, this song has a very special place in my heart.
During high school graduation, the graduates wear white “toga” / gown.
During college graduation, the graduates wear black gowns
The white dress is usually used in kindergartens elementary and high school graduation. College and university used black.
It depends with the school 😊 in UST we used yellow & black, while when I was in San Beda, our toga was red 😊
I was teary-eyed with this!😢First time to see this😮 Amazingly beautiful! Thanks for the review.👍👍👍
It's a song of SB19 MAPA dedicated to their parents who work hard to suport their studies🤗
I cried hard while singing our graduation song! It was definitely a core memory ❤
Their parents ❤❤❤ the song MAPA by SB19 is dedicated to the hardworking parents.
Singing is always a part of special events. Graduation, parties, even Christmas carols. When i migrated to the US i was excited to do “Carolling” with my kids on the snowy streets of America only to learn that there is no such thing. 😢
@4:16 indeed, there's a rehearsal, a month at least, before commencement exercise takes place.
Actually, as a filipino we all sing this song everywhere and it is a top hit song in the philippines hope it helps❤
We don't actually need to practice
Everything full of life, I miss it so much
9:23 white is for primary and secondary level ❤
Most of the time we song as a theme in our graduation even elementary secondary and college.i experience those moment in my life even jolly songs you feel in touch and teary eyes on that moments.mabuhay everyone and God bless
My graduation songs
Kindergarten: Happy, by Nikki Gil
Elementary Grad: ..oh ohh..sht, i forgot, it's a lot of songs, but our section was assigned to be the soprano
HighSchool: That song fr the second vid, fr the greatest show man and also, My Life Begins(i forgot the title) by Bruno Mars
College Grad: Mapa
Well, plus the school hymn
In the Philippines, graduations are always a big celebrations for us. We wear formal attires under a toga. Mostly white togas for high schools and blacks for universities. I remembered when I graduated nursing here in Montreal, majority of the graduates wore casuals, a few wore short and jeans. There was one guy who did a tumbling on stage, after receiving his diploma, and many were laughing. I was very astounded watching him.
Oh my gosh I'm crying too😭
About your question, the photo is the photo of their family.
Same😂
That is the norm in my homeland.
Go up graduation next please sir Sam
We had our graduation scheduled at night. We were singing "Somewhere only we know" all the electricity were suddenly cut off, and everyone just started singing in acapella and brought their phones out and started waving them with their flashlights on. It was so beautiful, I cried a lot with my friends that night. (Yes like the flashlight song by jessie j vibes)
That’s the Pilipino traits, parents do their best and sacrifice to send their children to school, to educate for their future🙏🏼🥰
music is the tie that binds in the philippines, that's why international artists connect with pinoy audience so easily. thanks for this emotional reaction. and thank you for appreciating filipinos.
Goosebumps. Like you, this is my first time to watch a grad group song, and teary eyed bec of the song.
A month before the graduation, they start to practice the step, the song and everything including the marching with parents going to the stage. We do this thing from kindergarten to university graduation, and this is the most exciting part of being a student.
This makes me cry...😢😢both songs we're sang when my eldest graduated in High school ❤❤❤❤We parents are so proud of our children ❤❤🎉🎉😊😊
