The WEIRDEST League of Legends Winners - Moscow Five ft. Thorin

  • Moscow Five were the best team in League of Legends in 2012 and revolutionary in their defining impact upon the competitive scene and global meta. They were the kings of team-fighting, seemingly never too far behind to rule out the possibility of turning any game. Their innovative picks and game-breaking counter-jungling philosophy defied experts and fellow professionals' conception of League as a game.
The feats they accomplished will reverberate throughout history and only the modern day G2 have come close to paralleling their uncanny ability to improvise on-the-fly and overcome even the strongest Korean teams.
Playing together for around 25 months total over a two and a half year span, M5's legendary line-up of Darien, Diamondprox, Alex Ich, Genja and Edward won six of the 15 tournaments they attended, winning half without losing a single game. They played in the final of nine tournaments in total and in 14 of the 15 events they went to they made it to at least top four, with the only failure being the final tournament, at which they finished 5th and promptly broke the team apart.
Having interviewed four of the five Moscow Five players over the years and had a number on my talk shows as guests, I've collected together many strange and curious tales of this truly great team. Let's peer together through the veil of Moscow Five's mystique and find out how League of Legends weirdest champions operated.

I can't stress how happy it makes me that they are still being discussed to this day. I was there to witness their glory when it started, and I saw it all happen. Now it's just a nice set of memories.

Literal Legends that deserved a better ending to their legacy than they got. Shame they got so messed over by the entire VISA situation.

M5 was crucial for the league Esports succes. They brought everything one could look for. Fast and interesting games, dominant but with trolly picks and new stuff every game. I follow league since the start but nothing come close to M5 so far. To all the new guys in League Esports. If you want REALLY good games go and watch the M5 games. Pure gold.

in LCS (LEC) realities it is impossible to show something fresh and interesting. This leagues system killed the environment where the ideas could be born and tactics created. You just have no time for it. That's why Moscow 5\Gambit team died, and that's why we will not see new players like M5. I'm saying it as LoL pro player's wife.

As of now, there is only two teams that will always be remembered and talked about through the whole League of Legends history : the three times world champions SKT, and the kings of Pre-LCS era, Moscow five.

The last memory I have of this team is them winning a game with eve/xin and Alex saying "we just pick the op heroes" in the post game interview.
These guys were the embodiment of the everyman's esports fantasy.

i will never forget how Darien fed 0/6 on Shen in like 5 min, and Diamond still carried whole game with scarner. Thats how darien got the nickname "feed to win"
