I've watched a couple of interviews with Bill Medley and he confirmed that that's how they came up with their name. Both he & Bobby had been part of a singing group called The Paramours in the early '60s but when just the two of them would sing at clubs in the Orange County & Los Angeles area they didn't have any official name they performed under.. a small group of U.S. Marines stationed at El Toro Marine Base in Orange Co., Calif. started to go to the clubs to hear them sing. A few of them were Black and had heard that there were these two white guys who were singing R&B, not the usual surfer songs that white kids were singing & listening to at the time, so they went to check them out. After a set one of them said, "That's Righteous, brothers!("Righteous" was a word we used in the 60's to mean "cool", "great", like "Man, that's a righteous car!") Anyway, Bill & Bobby hadn't settled on a stage name for the two of them yet, but when they heard them saying that from the audience, they both thought..hmm, "Righteous Brothers"🤔 & the rest is music legend history!😉 The term "Blue-Eyed Soul originated with them. Bill actually went to the same High School I attended, Santa Ana High in Santa Ana, California.. He was born in '40 & I was born in '59 , but still kinda cool for those of us who went there, lol! I had such a crush on Bill Medley when I was a teenager; still do!😉

They used to perform at a black Marine Base and after one of their performances a black marine yelled, "You're righteous brother", and that's where they got their name from.
